The bearings are suffering from galvanic corrosion, that’s why the rest of the bolts are in relatively good condition. There must have been water ingress to the engine over the years which will have been sitting in the sump hence the lower have of the Lower parts of the bearings are shot. Any way great show guys Like the content and keep it coming, cheers Euan
The crank assembly is similar to the Aston Martin DB2 and DB2/4. Tje bearing housings are called "cheeses"...when you for it back, it needs to be an interference fit...check the rings where they fit for cracks!

Loving this! It’s great being able to watch and learn from your videos 👍🏻, I’m currently doing a RUclips series on the restoration of a 1959 Reliant Regal MKV saloon. Just Wish my videos were as good as yours 🙈
Great video again guys. Just remembered that me and Jimmy had a mutual relative Michael Grant (my uncle, Jimmys 1st cousin once removed i think) who worked for Massey Ferguson in the 60s before going to JCB to start their USA operation there in the early 70s. Fergies must be in our DNA!
Another great episode, thank you ☺️ interesting to see the plastiguage being used. I understand what it's for etc, but have never had cause to use it myself (tinkering is a hobby for me; I have a far more mundane occupation!) so good to see the application. The crack in the flywheel; you say it's superficial, but is it not worth welding up anyway to avoid it propagating further? Looking forward to the next episode ☺️ I want to see if the metal thing you were turning on the facebook post is in fact a locking tool, an alignment tool or something else 😁

Slotted and unslotted liners will interchange provided the appropriate upper insert is fitted to compensate for the thicker flange of the latter type. The incorrect combination of upper insert and cylinder liner will be apparent as the insert will stand proud or below the top face of the cylinder block by approximately .10" (2.54mm) this is obviously unacceptable.
Hi Guys, loving this series you're doing. I am rebuilding/restoring the exact same model. Not even close to as bad as yours though. I noticed you didn't use any break-in bearing grease when you assembled the bearings. Is that not bad?
The break in grease is definitely worth considering if you don’t think you’ll be starting the engine for a long period of time after building. Thanks for watching 👍
Hi I, am new to this, and relieved to find information on this engine, as I have just taken on the task of rebuilding a TEF 20. Have striped down the crank, would be possible inform me of the original size of the crank bearing housing, as I have found the shells are +30 so I need to know if I can go to + 40. KR Andy
You sure that isn't galvanic corrosion. Would have thought that is much more likely sandwiching a lump of steel in contact with cast ally or mag for 60 years. Chemistry was never Gav's strong point.
