    I actually really encourage you to read the rest of the series. (For context, I was in my 20’s when they came out and still find them super clever even now in my 40’s, so it’s perfectly fine to read them as an adult). The series progressively gets darker and starts dealing with an authoritarian takeover from within their government. It’s honestly a really clever way to introduce a 1984-style storyline to a young audience. I think you would appreciate it.

  • @Travelinman777
    @Travelinman777 Год назад +1

    I don’t deny the intro tutorial play is too long for an outsider/“extremely casual fan”/not really a fan of the books, but the game really was a love story to the fans of the series. You ended just as the game was beginning. And once you get a few spells under your belt, the open world action will always keep you on your toes from wondering packs of wolves, camps of goblins that are followers of the bad guy, camps/castle ruins full of dark witches and wizards.....complete with several varieties of giant gormless trolls whether just out in the wild or loyal to the bad guy, and don’t even get me started on the giant spiders, AND acromantulas because there is apparently a difference, and those who are not fans of eight legged freaks will not sleep well when certain side missions involve a cavern full of them.......
    You really ought to give this one another go, Klaven. You stopped right when you were actually going to start doing stuff in the game. Ordinarily I enjoy your game reviews, but this one is two thumbs down from me.

    A slow, cutscene-heavy beginning is a given in story-based game, and frankly I don't see anything wrong with that. It has to explain the setting and the premise of the story. Books and movies do the same thing. Once you get over that initial hurdle, the gameplay always picks up. Ironically, you stopped shortly before this one does. And personally, I think ignoring the story in a story-heavy game is missing out on a major part of the experience. You wouldn't know why you're doing what you're doing, you're just doing stuff because some prompt tells you to.

    I've never seen anyone skip those cutscenes, except maybe speedrunners 😂. But honestly, you should have more patience for those scenes as they create immersion and help you understand the context. This is especially important in times of platforms like TikTok, Facebook, and so on, which have the core concept of short videos that make us forget how to focus for longer periods of time. If you don't have enough time during the day because you're too busy, try playing the game after you come home from work at night. Games are supposed to help you cool down and relax after a stressful day. However, rushing through the game creates the opposite effect by causing more stress.
    With all due respect, I don't think you're in a position to give the game a review, even if you've played it for 45 minutes. I don't watch a movie for 20 minutes while responding to messages on my phone every 4 minutes and then draw a conclusion after only seeing 16% of the movie. In the case of Hogwarts Legacy, you've probably only seen about 3% of the game. If you don't want to play the game as it's supposed to be played, why don't you react to the gameplay at 150% or 200% speed? That would save you time, and you'd be able to understand everything.

  • @thehapavegan7177
    @thehapavegan7177 Год назад

    It does get better as you play, there are less cut scenes then the bombardment of them in the beginning; I think you have to understand that it is explaining what is happening at that period of time (This is before Harry Potters time, and even Dumbledores time, way back in the past). So it is trying to catch you up to speed on what is happening in the magical world. This game is very versatile, if you just like fighting/killing than this game isn't for you. If you like the HP series, always envied Hagrid or Newt Scamander and wanted a collection of dangerous magical creatures yourself, would love the chance at redecorating the requirement room to your liking, collecting materials for potions making or traits to upgrade your "armor", dueling obnoxious students or fighting dark wizards/goblins and inferi, questing throughout Hogwarts/Hogsmeade/and all over the neighboring Wizarding world, having the chance to explore the forbidden forest, learning how to fly on a broomstick or other magical creatures, Looking like Professor Snape dressed in Neville Longbottoms Grandmother's clothing, creating potions or growing plants that help you survive, and using your noggin to figure out puzzles and more? (This is just the beginning of the game) Than this game is for you! It is honestly crazy how much they have packed into this game, the only thing I can think of to make it better is if it was a mmorpg game. That would be really crazy!

    I agree with Andrew, i mean the scenary, atmosphere and music are spectacular. But this is a videogame, you can expect me to just wait through 1 hour of cutscenes with some casual gameplay that consists in touching two buttons and follow a npc. And after that slow prologue you have freedom to... keep exploring and doing tutorials. If you are a hardcore fan of Harry Potter i can understand that you love this game, but i can't see such a slow beggining of a game gameplay wise as good videogame design.

    I actually really appreciate Klaven doing this one. His perspective broadened mine. I’m down for living in and taking my time in this world but now I see that kind of gameplay isn’t for everyone. God of War is a good balance of action and story vs Hogwarts Legacy is more like a playable movie, at least in the beginning. I didn’t realize it took so long just to get to hogwarts itself, then there’s classes, etc.

    Fun trivia for iPhone users (it may also work on Android but I don’t know for sure) - if you say “Lumos” to Siri, it will turn on your flashlight. “Hey Siri, Lumos!”

    I’m not a video game player, but I love this game! There are way less cut scenes once you get further into the story. They had to lay out the story aspect in the beginning. I am a massive Harry Potter fan though, so that’s probably part of the reason. I just love seeing the detail they put into the game and all the things they incorporated from the hp books! The castle and landscape are
    stunning.

    "Look how realistic that waterfall is and those waves" 5:27
    The water still could use a lot of work, the waves never really break. It's a cheap trick. It uses an animated texture slapped onto a plane of polygons to create the rolling motion, and some white is slapped on in specific places to "simulate" foam, it doesn't actually use any particles.

    I wonder if Klavan has ever played Red Dead Redemption 2? In my mind, there's very few games in the medium that convey the message of redemption, love, charity, and sacrifice and I think, if he could be patient enough, he'd love the story.

    This video shows some of the flaws with some Playstation / Xbox games in that they try too much to be an interactive movie, compared to Nintendo's strengths like in Breath of the Wild with letting you just start playing the game and learning through clever game design

      To each his own. I far prefer this type of game to the Zelda games because the stories tend to be so much richer in them. To some degree, every Zelda game has the same story. But there are happy mediums - the Elder Scrolls games throw you into the action but also have stories that are pretty rich and deep.

    You should honestly do "Let's Plays" of games, and film playing them beginning to end.
    As for the cutscenes and length, games like these always start slow, but as you progress, you get more powerful, the enemies are more varied, and you feel way more powerful.

    I find it hilarious that the trans community is angry at a game that has semi main character being trans while it also allows players to play as trans but that's not enough, it's never enough.
