His description of how he introduced story to his campaign is how I still DM hahaha "The other half was lost" because I didn't have anything prepared "We have to find the other half" shit now I need to write that other half lol
Even if it isn't, the intent behind the enthusiasm is genuine. It's always better to exaggerate than understate if you're trying to get people excited. :)
@@HyperTeddyBear That is what I like about her, she hasn't lost any of her enthusiasm with her experience. This series has made me appreciate her a whole lot more. I love the way she conveys her message with all of her body, face and eyes adding emotion and emphasis to what she's trying to convey with her voice. For someone like me, only a year into D&D, she's a big inspiration. I always wanted to be part of a theater club at my local high school when I was kid but there was none to be found. D&D and people like Satine have woken that interest that was long forgotten. I know my acting skills are of an amateur or most likely, worse, but making me want to become a proficient D&D player and a potential GM, has also helped me getting back into acting and writing. Many thanks, Satine!
I have been a player in a D&D game that has been going over 22 years. We had the core characters together for that long with some characters dying off or leaving the group cause players left. We had to retire three of the pcs that lasted the longest and were original founders of the group, cause a player moved states and another that had run two characters passed away. I get the feeling that this game of 1st edition D&D won't be over till the DM dies.
Yes! Weaving modules into a campaign is a great way for newer (and beyond) GMs to gain fresh ideas for their own content, and was how I eased my way into things back in the day. Even better, it's something you can do even as a veteran (in fact it gets easier to do with experience) and inject stories within the overall narrative with a change of tone for variety. This was a great episode that hit on an excellent tip for all.
During my recent campaign in uni, we finished the main story slightly early and we want to continue another couple weeks at least before the exam season. Luckily my GM was a legend and brought back a Dragon we struck a deal with earlier in the campaign and had the Dragon betray us with back up. So we spent the last 3 weeks trying to fight a Dragon with a massive army, and it was bloody awesome!! By the way Satine keep up the good work :)
Video is much better than usual. Less discussion about "well this one awesome time when I was a DM " from the guest and actual advice, tips, and meaningful discussion. Tj Storm needs to make a DM soundboard app in that outro voice. I'd happily pay for a copy just so I can click it and have him say things like " The door stands tall, waiting for the adventurer's to brave its mysteries...." or other cool common descriptions. Voice is A++
A great Dungeon Master is one who has both a command presence and a commanding voice. TJ is one of those Great DM's obviously. Thanks Sat for posting this vid.
As soon as I heard that voice at 2:22, I immediately knew I wanted to sit at that man's table as a character! Heck, would settle for just being a fly on the wall and listening.
(aka GraphicAnomaly) I was able to have a year long campaign with a few friends much like what TJ was talking about, a few come in and a few leave, but i had a steady set of 3-4 players who always were present. After about 11 months ,the players were about level 21-22 and were able to travel dimensions, fight on the backs of dead Gods, and befriended a few dragons. We decided to "retire" the group and pick up 200 years later. While the humans of the group passed away, the meta-humans were still around but much older. Some of the players decided to play decedents of their previous characters and start back at level 1. During the run of about 1-2 months, they were able to see statues of their previous characters in cities for which they became heroes of. It was pretty exciting to see the results of all their hard work. Unfortunately, the players started moving away and we lost touch (this was before the rise of internet gaming). I wouldn't mind starting up another campaign, I just need to find some more players :)
Thank you TJ Storm! I do the same thing with modules, and I felt it was a little bit of a cheat not developing everything myself. Love this series! Thanks to Satine as well!
Great vid Satine. I've played dnd since I was 7 (started in 1993) and now I'm starting to DM with a group of 8 noobies (1 played Pathfinder). All these tips with Matt and even more detail with you have helped me to shape our first game in a few weeks. Keep up the amazing work and ignore the haters.
I'm currently running a 15+ years campaign too, have simillar experiences to this guy in regards to the players (only 2 of the original group). Every time we introduce a new guy he's amazed by how much lore the multiverse has. We currently have 3 major planes (we build a new world every time we introduce a new player, but some are more memorable than others), two alternate timelines, a whole pantheon made up of really old characters and a shit ton of anecdotes. If anyone can get a table early on with whom you can play once a week ad infinitum at an early age, cherish it. It's not common by all accounts and it's the best possible way to play DnD. Your campaigns will only keep getting better. Side note, this woman is a great interviewer, she never interrupts and I love her hair.
These are some great tips for long running games. I've got a campaign that has been going since 2015, and the players that are still around from the start are having fun uncovering the mysteries and the new players get pulled in to the fun just as much.
awesome episode!! I epecially like the reward system he uses for players who play the role of their character regardless of the outcome of their actions
Rocky Kenpo Gaming ohh hell no. Ain't nobody replacin' Marish. Sure, Keyleth is an annoying twat, but it's a character. Replacing an annoying character's actor with an actual annoying actor is counterproductive.
This is my all-time favorite episode in the series. Because of TJ Storm! He's so charismatic and his comedy style is so cute! He needs to have his own show!! If you ever have to replace Satine (who I also love), I vote for him to be the next host!!
The talk of modules has made me want a whole episode just about module trouble shooting, I've found it hard sometimes to integrate written modules into my ongoing campaign. It might be a result of my usual DM style which is very freestyle, which normally results in the PCs feeling free to make whatever choices they feel suits, but when we play a module I find that the choices stop being "What would my character do?" and start being, "What am I supposed to do to finish the module?". Or, which is somehow worse, there is a short circuit within the adventure, which the characters would take, but the players know I've bought a module and spent a lot of time reading/preparing, and so ignore it. Both are to some extent the result of meta-gaming, and I get that, but it's still a problem that keeps coming back, and I've been DMing for 30 or so years now (I started young)
another important point is both expanding the scope of the campaign, and giving them points of understanding of how far they've come. Have them run into an old monster that was a hard fought battle, but now, leveled up, its much less work for them. As to scope, I use training time in my Pathfinder, a week per level, so that the party is forced to slow down and interact in the world. They can hire trainers to cut the time in half, but, there's a catch: Past a certain point, they can't keep finding people of the appropriate level to be able to train them. Suddenly, around 10-12th level, you stop finding trainers, or you almost have to go on a quest to find one. Reasons are simple: Most adventurers die off before they get that far, and of those that survive, they generally retire, having the money to spend more time with their remaining limbs, and finally, most simply don't have that much drive, to keep pushing higher and higher. You seem them as those guys who make a comfortable living fighting goblins in the woodlands out of an outpost.
holy wow!!! does that guy have the most epic speaking voice or what? then he really turned it up to "GM them out". dude that was awesome! i'd like to watch him GM. I bet it'd be every bit as fun as watching Mercer.
I think Satine acts likes she's on a infomercial rather then just talking to the camera like it's a q&a with a DM witch is fine but probly the reason for any bad reaction to the change aswell as why everyone loved this guest so much looking forward to the next one Satine
For a reward system I like the way Chronicles of Darkness does it. If you choose to change a failed roll into a dramatic failure you get some experience. If you recover from a condition like amnesia or if you indulge an addiction instead of doing what you are supposed to do you get experience. Though paraphrasing a bit I do agree with the gentleman gamer that such things earn you experience since they denote experiences.
Not heard of this guy, but he was a great guest. I loved his campaign stories.
THE BULL HEAD THROUGH PORTAL DOE
TJ....my fucking jaw dropped at your GM'ing out. You are amazing.
Best advice ever. "It's a game. Play with them." Damn straight.
His description of how he introduced story to his campaign is how I still DM hahaha
"The other half was lost" because I didn't have anything prepared
"We have to find the other half" shit now I need to write that other half lol
I have to say I love how Sarine fangirls at least a little bit every time she has someone DM us out. It's so good.
I find it cringy actually haha
Yeah, that look of awe right at the end was hilarious! I really appreciate this series, its addressing a lot of the issues I'm finding running a game.
She is so bloody full of goodness. I might have a bit of a crush at this point .... yep
I really hope her enthusiasm is genuine
Even if it isn't, the intent behind the enthusiasm is genuine. It's always better to exaggerate than understate if you're trying to get people excited. :)
Is it just me or did anyone else get the Chills at that ending?
Right there with you. This guy is intense AF!
I'd love to play with such a GM.
Totally did
14:56 Satine's face throughout that ending... she's loving it!
@@HyperTeddyBear That is what I like about her, she hasn't lost any of her enthusiasm with her experience. This series has made me appreciate her a whole lot more. not Gay, but I did jizz myself
His voice was fucking epic!
It's so fucking deep it is great
Nothing. Just go over. It's probably an octopus.
My favorite line.
Semper Ludens loved that!
Japan? Is that you?
TJ is a beast. just listen to that voice.
Androgynaut it's an epic DM voice
damn right it is
Damn, that GM outtro gave me goosebumps. Well done!
Awesome video, as a DM myself that part at the end made me get up and look off into the distance and say....."I have work to do" lol
I have been a player in a D&D game that has been going over 22 years. We had the core characters together for that long with some characters dying off or leaving the group cause players left. Here I was thinking the 2 year game i was in was pretty crazy.
This dude is like the most attractive male i've ever seen.
Yes! Weaving modules into a campaign is a great way for newer (and beyond) GMs to gain fresh ideas for their own content, and was how I eased my way into things back in the day. The best part of this show is the GM-out, they are sooo good and sooo epic. I get goosebump on every single one.
What an inspiration. Such a cool guy.
TJ is absolutely amazing and on point with everything he said. Awesome episode!
What. A. Great. Episode. Thank you Satine. As always, fantastic work. Storm - truly one of the great DMs. Outstanding.
During my recent campaign in uni, we finished the main story slightly early and we want to continue another couple weeks at least before the exam season. "You see a tentacle"
"IS IT A MIND FLAYER??"
I lol'd. He makes a damn good point, though.
Also, this guy got a hell of a presence.
A great Dungeon Master is one who has both a command presence and a commanding voice. TJ is one of those Great DM's obviously. Thanks Sat for posting this vid.

TJ Storm, PCs' wet dream.
Actually, with "PCs", there's no need for that s after the apostrophe; adding the apostrophe to a plural automatically makes it a plural possessive.
TJ Storm is Satine's wet dream
Holy- This guy's voice when he goes into mode...
Every once in a while I come back to this video just to feel the epicness of his outro
Came back here today for this very reason.
He just has that epic narrator voice! I got chills!

Fantastic video! Thank you for the great interview and tips.

Best GM out yet. Holy crap. I want to play in TJs campaign so bad. Seriously best episode yet
MAN! That campaign-points Idea to reinforce attendance positively is fantastic! Thanks!
I want someone to look at me the way that Satine was looking at TJ at the end.
Great guest - more of him would be excellent!
dude gave me goosebumps!
awesome episode!! I epecially like the reward system he uses for players who play the role of their character regardless of the outcome of their actions
I wanna play dnd with this guy
Dat ending.... I'm getting the vapors!
the DM us out moment is awesome! what a voice!
The interviews are a great addition to this series. Good.
I would pay infinity money to play under this DM. By god, he has the one thing I could never obtain - a deep, luscious voice.
Well, imho that was the best GM tips episode since Satine took over the moderation. Very pleased with this episode!
Holy balls his voice is amazing.
this is probably one of the most useful(to me) GM tips i have seen.
absolutely amazing ideas!!
Great episode! Thanks to TJ for all the fantastic tips (i.e. the "portal episode" with that spartan)...!
This was my favorite episode yet... BY FAR
this one was the best, excellent tips, great, inspiring talk!
TJ was awesome! Great tips, and I would LOVE to be involved in a 15 year campaign that sounds amazing.
Ok, that GM out was simply the best yet. TJ earned a follow just for that.
That TJ dude would be an awesome GM. He's so charismatic.
That "GM us out of here" = awesome. Satine continues to be delightful as host. Keep it up, gals and guys!
Damn, that man's voice is like silk!
I now just want to hear more stories of TJ's games. They sound awesome.
I really enjoyed this one! Keep up the good work!
I want Satine as a magician from Ank'Harel in Critical Role
Satine is kinda Osysa and TJ is Kamaljiori
schizo tosco she make a good replacement if anyone wanted to quit like a certain druid :3
Rocky Kenpo Gaming ohh hell no. Ain't nobody replacin' Marish. Sure, Keyleth is an annoying twat, but it's a character. Replacing an annoying character's actor with an actual annoying actor is counterproductive.
Doogie Howser whatever you say everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I appreciate yours :3.
Yes Pleaseeeeeeee
First tip I've finished since Satine took over, really good! Love TJ!
I want him as a GM, holy crap is he amazing.
I actually played some with TJ Storm a long time ago. He is a Great and fun GM.
OMG
Goosebumps on the outro
TJ your voce rocks
Satine ive been loving this GM tips thx
First time they've said something that I've said myself.
If you don't know your world, how can you do anything with it?
This is my all-time favorite episode in the series. Because of TJ Storm! He's so charismatic and his comedy style is so cute! He needs to have his own show!!
If you ever have to replace Satine (who I also love), I vote for him to be the next host!!
Best episode yet, you have hit your stride Satine.
My approach is: Design for it from the start.
My setting is based on 2 pillars. One of which is: The rabbit hole ALWAYS goes deeper.
The talk of modules has made me want a whole episode just about module trouble shooting, I've found it hard sometimes to integrate written modules into my ongoing campaign. It might be a result of my usual DM style which is very freestyle, which normally results in the PCs feeling free to make whatever choices they feel suits, but when we play a module I find that the choices stop being "What would my character do?" and start being, "What am I supposed to do to finish the module?". he is my favorite guest so far. so fucking good.
This guy is sooooo fricking awsome!!! I want more!
That was the most EPIC "GM us out of here" that has ever been on this channel!
Holy shit! That outro.
Bring him more! What a gream GM!
15:00 and 15:06 DAMN Satine is a wonderful actress! She took que perfectly there, and knew just what to do, and was *totally* into it.
A-maze-balls, would love to see more of this guy, what a voice.
I'm in love, that last part, his voice, the hairs on my neck...

This dude sounds like an epic DM. He made me way too excited about his campaign even though I’ve never played in it.
Some of the best advice, he was very down to earth about it
That was great 10/10, TJ's voice at the end was amazing
THE BULL HEAD THROUGH PORTAL LOOKING AT THEM. "cameo/easter egg crossover " thingie ! OMGGG SO EPICC *Geeks out drooling*!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111
I love these GM Tips!!! And that ending was crazy good! "Which are you?"
WOOOOOOAH!!! That outro was great!!!
Loving these episodes! I can't wait for more!!! Took me a while, but I'm digging Satine's format more than Mercers.
and she realised then that when he said "as you wish" what he really meant was "i love you"...
Great episode, keep making more! :)
I just want to listen to TJ talk forever.
Now if only being a great GM got all women as excited as it gets Satine.
holy wow!!! does that guy have the most epic speaking voice or what? then he really turned it up to "GM them out". dude that was awesome! i'd like to watch him GM. I bet it'd be every bit as fun as watching Mercer.
This episode is my favorite so far and I am not even a GM!
He just earned a new fan
Please bring TJ back again, this man is a paragon of DMing!
I think Satine acts likes she's on a infomercial rather then just talking to the camera like it's a q&a with a DM witch is fine but probly the reason for any bad reaction to the change aswell as why everyone loved this guest so much looking forward to the next one Satine

that GM out of here got me so excited lol
This guy speaks to my GM style. I'm all about rewarding players for staying IC and in alignment.
So Good!
lol her face at the end was adorable
this guy is a genius! i can;t think of running 15 years
"everyone can make it to every session, every week for the next year"
hahahahha.....HaHaHAHaHaHahaAh....HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAA...funny! :D
OMG the ending was awesome!
