This is very cool. I’ve always painted fabric with acrylics, (and latex interior house paint), with a bit of fabric medium, but not watered down. I’m inspired to use up my “almost empties” in this way. Thx again for the inspiration Susan. ❤️🎨
I feel like I fell into a sea of gorgeous blue fabric. You realize I’m now going to strip all the sheets off the beds and tear into strips and give them a new life. Wahahaha. Mad scientists indeed.
I got "free" white sheets when I brought a new comforter. I've been waiting til the new year to finally have the time to do this! Now I know it can work! Thank you!
Love these colours Susan... I want to do a woodland journal, so will go and look for my emptiest greens, and browns and see how I go... Cheers for sharing, this is just wonderful... xx
Oh my goodness, Susan - they are all gorgeous!!! I ‘happily surprised by the results with the printed fabric - who knew? I know what I’ll be doing soon- thanks!
Gotta love youtube! I just made wall quilt with my paint rags....and, I was eying my paintbrush jars.... thinking, I should pour this on scrap fabrics... then this came up on my feed! Kinda scary, but oh so fun! And, you got a new follower 😃.
I used very diluted black acrylic paint to dye fabric gray. I noticed that diluted black dye doesn't work as the dye turns bluish purple. So happy with the result.

I have been hoping that you would do a video on dyeing fabric with acrylic paint. I am impressed with the ease of the process and the simple supplies. I do not own any distress inks at the moment but will hope to obtain some when it is safe to shop in my area or to order online after the winter cold has passed. I do have some old acrylics to use up and lots of fabric scraps to try. I am busy for awhile finishing a crumb quilt but the dye project will be put in my queue. Thanks for sharing your process.
Since I don’t do the type of art that goes in the washing machine, I don’t test for that however, if you think about any time you’ve gotten paint on your clothes and then sent them through the washer, it doesn’t really come off. If you are trying to paint clothing, that will regularly go through the washing machine. My two suggestions are one use a fabric paint or to use a fabric, medium with acrylic paint as it will help the fabric stay softer and permanent.

@@srta.catrinabrowningyguerr6946 I'm not sure if your question is for @Susan Taylor Brown or me, but I'll give my answer - I'm making fabric for other art projects and not clothing. I usually use paint made for textiles, so unless I use a heavy amount it remains quite soft. I hope that helps.
This video.. You made my day , I have been an artist for many years IK know acrylic would be excellent medium for fabric painting and thank goodness you were amazing enough to have created this video reminding me . I have two baby parrots and I decided to make p[art of my bedroom into a jungle avary for them I have a beautiful high ceiling . Hi, you did a lovely job on your fabric. How long did you leave the fabrics in the dye baths? When did you rinse them if at all, and how did you dry them without getting paint everywhere? Thanks!
It varies when I do this, sometimes I dip them in and write back out again sometimes I leave them and go do something else but really it just takes a few minutes. I rinse them in till they run clear and I really can’t tell you how long that takes because it all depends on how much pigment is left in the paint when you do this. I have lots of white cotton fabric and was going to make pants for a doll but I needed gray!! And I can’t find the right shade so I’ll just be dying the fabric! Thanks!!
I’ve learned since doing this, I would add fabric medium to the mix and then they would not be stiff. I forgot what the ratio is since I’m not doing this kind of stuff anymore, but you can get the cheap fabric, medium and mix it with your acrylic paint and it should work fine and doesn’t change the hand of the fabric too much.
Not when using acrylic paint. Think about how hard it is to get paint off your clothes if you spill it. But when I did this it wasn’t for anything that would be washed.
Hi, love this! I'd like to make a bag with fabric dyed this way. If I want to wash it, will colors run? Any recommendations for setting the color, or isn't it necessary?

Cool! But although I was really happy with my coloured threads and fabric I forgot you can’t iron acrylics without making a mess of both iron and work🫣
