  • Is it a curse to have a black Civic cross your path with holograms, scratches, and sanding marks? In this episode of our Spotlight Series on the 2018 Honda Civic, Kelly shows why you shouldn't shy away from microfiber pads to correct and finish, how the pad size matters, and how a diminishing compound can work in your favor.
    Pads Used:

    Bringing Kelly Harris on board with Lake Country was the most brilliant decision Lake Country Manufacturing ever made. Lake Country, whatever you are paying Kelly, TRIPLE IT to keep this man on your staff forever. He is like the PHD of paint correction.

    I loooove your microfiber cutting pads! They really have a some serious bite, don't leave too much micro-marring. Most of the time I just follow it up with an Orange Foam Pad and a finishing polish and call it a day. Pro tip: blow out the microfiber cutting pad with air pressure between every pass. This ensures longer pad lifetime, cooling, and ensures good cutting performance through the whole detail. I only change pads when the pad starts to "spit" out dust while polishing. I recommend getting 2-3 of those pads in diffrent sizes: 1,2,3 and 5 or 6 inch to do one car.

      what speeds is he running or are you running on these pads?

    • @Potzii85
      @Potzii85 2 года назад

      @@michaelwodzisz8763 I found that on speed 4 of 6 is optimal, with medium pressure, very slow arm movement (about 3cm per second), 2-3 passes, this way the cut is most effective, and finish is quite good. I also strongly recommend to blow out the pad between each pass, for consistent results.

    Thanks for these videos, very informative. I'm organizing my first polishing, as a hobby. A doubt: for a beginner, having only one polisher (dual action, 125 mm, 12 mm orbit) it is possible to correct an entire car (apart from the recesses of the handles, which must be polished by hand) if the time available is not a problem, or is it essential to have at least a couple of polishers available, or even 3 (for example 125 mm, 75 mm, 25-50 mm)?

    What speed was used with the black finishing microfiber pad? By the way, I totally agree, you are the master. This is a fabulous video. I did a three stage on a black Tesla last week, with incredibly soft paint. Even using a finishing compound with a green LC flat pad, I got so much marring that I had to use the black pad with a very low abrasive pure polish at speed 4 in a 12 mm throw DA. Still not finished the way I wanted. Please advise. Thank you.

      On very soft clearcoat (especially over darker colors), give our red Force pad a try when it comes to final finishing. It's even more gentle and may well be the solution you need :)

    Kelly talks about the compound that diminishes over use. Is it true for all compounds or is he using a special compound? Great content by the way!

      Most modern compounds and polishes contain diminishing abrasives :)

    Kelly what compounds do you use ??

    • @LakeCountryManufacturing
      @LakeCountryManufacturing  Год назад

      This question gets asked a lot and the simple fact is that we are forever changing and trying out new compounds and polishes. Everyone seems to have their favourites, and we find they all perform at their best on LC pads. For example there is a certain pink compound you'll see us using on microfbre pads in particular - and that's partly because it's excellent, and also partly because the colouration helps for video purposes.

    Can you side micro fibre pads on a rotary ??

    • @LakeCountryManufacturing
      @LakeCountryManufacturing  Год назад

      You can use microfiber pads on a rotary, yes. They are perhaps not ideal, but at the end of the day it's all just abrasion. We would typically suggest using our wool or foam pads though.

    Would like to see how you would work on a silver car.

    • @Ichabod_Jericho
      @Ichabod_Jericho 2 года назад +2

      Silver, black, orange, green, yellow, they’re all clear coated so the color doesn’t matter. Polishing only addresses issues in the clear coat.

    • @LakeCountryManufacturing
      @LakeCountryManufacturing  2 года назад +2

      Exactly the same, at least to begin with. With proper lighting we can see just as many defects on silver as we can on black; but, they are often more difficult to capture with a camera, making for a less helpful video.
      That said... it is true that when it comes to the final stages of polishing, the law of diminishing returns (pun not intended) affects how you might approach silver/white cars differently to darker colors. The human eye can quite easily see small incremental gains from finer and finer polishing on darker cars, which just might not be worth taking the time to do on silver/white. So, the question of whether or not it's worth it to go that extra mile comes down to customer expectations, budget and so on.

    Amazing job, great video. May I ask... What pads & compound would you recommend for a 2019 Renault Grand Scenic complete paint correction please? Thanks.

    • @LakeCountryManufacturing
      @LakeCountryManufacturing  2 года назад +1

      Unfortunately without knowing the color, budget, timeframe, paint density, defect severities, and client expectations etc, it's hard to say. However, there is an extremely high likelihood that our HDO foam range (and/or the HDO Microfiber if extra cut is needed) will cover all eventualities. Use your choice of compounds and polish, everyone has their own preferences!

    Guys please make more content🙄 no one on RUclips wants an 8 part series on one destroyed car...easily one video...

    • @LakeCountryManufacturing

      Hey there, thank you (sincerely) for the feedback!
      The reason there's so much content on this car, aside from it being in such a bad state, is that there was such a wide variety of defects around the car. That's why each video contains different scenarios - all of which (we felt) were individually deserving of Kelly's proper demonstration and explanation, since detailers all have their own preferences. There are often several ways you can get to a satisfactory result, so these videos showing a range of technique, tool and pad options, with many 'real world' tips thrown in (this is a paying customer's car which arrived completely organically) are intended to 'inspire' rather than just 'instruct'.
      Nevertheless, I can confirm there is new content in production too! And, we appreciate that you're a subscriber, so we'd love to hear what kind of content you would most like to see?

      It sounds like you need to work on your final polishing stage (perhaps using a less aggressive pad/polish, and/or allowing it to diminish properly). The more you know, the harder it gets.... Here are a couple of videos you might find useful, please watch them and let me know what you think:
