This has helped but what I am experiencing is that DeFi does not seem to work like an exchange in that you can get stuck with an asset unable to exchange it and if you went to send it first you need ETH or BNB to send it. In the meantime you ETH or BNB can go up or down quite a lot so if you do like me and exchange it for a stable coin you will first need ETH or BNB to send it. There is a fee for sending as well as exchanging it. So either way a person will need plenty of ETH or not so much BNB.
If the cryptos are supported then yes. Trading on centralised vs decentralised platforms is a choice some people make, but also some smaller coins aren't listed on centralised exchanges, so will need a decentralised wallet to buy them 👍🏻

Some people don't use the wallet but it leaves them open to the whims of that exchange. Exchanges should be used as a means to an end. Not the storage spot. But many people need the wallet to move the coins since they want to ultimately swap their coins into other more profitable coins. So the wallet is the middle point for some transactions in that aspect
