Very clever showing the traffic symbol in the lower left corner. Looks like a very fast and smooth route. Over here there'd be people stepping into the bike path without looking and cars sticking their front ends out of the side streets.
Great video, seems to be more bikes than cars. Bikes parked everywhere. lol I love the temporary cycle path early in video where there's work being done, even your temporary cycle paths are better than most of ours in the UK. If I could, I sure love to move here...
Does anyone need to put a lock on their bike when they leave it ? sounds dumb i know, but wondered if they did since their are so many bicycles there. Great video by the way, thank you for posting.
Yes, you need to lock your bicycle because they are the most stolen objects. An average of 2 locks is common. It is really annoying if you have to walk home because your bicycle is stolen (again)
I usually leave stuff on my bike like bags or my jacket...sometimes I forget to lock it xD and it is like worth 400$ and it hasnt been stolen jet :D (maybe because i don't live in a city)
Crime rate in the Netherlands is nothing like the US except when it comes to bicycle stealing !!!!!!!!! Don't ask me why. Generally Nederland is a benevolant place to live. Brian Fenwick.
Southern Yank, eh, when you drive your car and leave that to park do you lock it? If not, sorry to have asked it. After all there are loads of unlocked cars ready to take away.
Thank you for a story. Nice see a perfect streets. A very interesting solution for bus stops. What is your speed on bike? Where can I see a bikemap of your city?
Forget Euro Truck Simulator 2, I want Utrecht Bike Simulator! It's nice to see how you can keep up with the buses until they reach the longer stretches like the A'damsestraatweg (or Biltstraat) - but even then waiting for the bus already gives the cyclist a headstart.
10:54 Busted lol What kind of cam do you use to film? And sinced I assume you're holding the cam with one af your hands, have you thought of actually putting it on your bike itself? On the steering wheel for example. Works fine with me :)
It's expensive to have a heavy car and also a car that generate a lot of Co2 because the TAX is calculated upon those values. That's why you don't see much (if any) V8 pick-up trucks. This is nation wide, not only in Utrecht. Restrictions are for old diesel engines, they are not allowed anymore in the bigger Dutch city's.
Thanks for your videos ! keep up the good work ! it's a good example for lots of cities/countries who doesn't have a bike infrastructure like..Romania ! here the gouverment sucks !
Could you please do a video on how pedestrians and cyclists are segregated. I tell people that they are segregated in The Netherlands and they don't believe me.
13:45 Pedestrians have their sidewalk full of snow and ice whereas cyclists have their lane cleaned up, very significant... Logically the first have to invade the lane.
policy.rutgers.edu/faculty/pucher/irresistible.pdf 2007 figures. Cyclists injured per 10 million km cycled NL: 1.4 Germany: 4.7 USA: 37.5 Netherlands has percentage wise far more bicycle use than any other country and dispite far less injuries and fatalities. Moreover cycling fatalities has dropped by 70% in the Netherlands since 1970. Not because people stopped cycling (there has been a significant increase of bicycle use) but because of the safe infrastructure.
Try this one: policy.rutgers.edu/faculty/pucher/irresistible.pdf and check the graph on page 13. Cyclists killed in NL: 1.1 per 100 million km, USA 5.8. Injuries: NL 1.4, USA 37.5 per 10 million km. Should be clear that it's safer. A lot.
These are some of my favorite kinds of videos, long bike rides to everyday destinations
I also like the videos explaining the innfrastructure, road networks, etc

Just imagine if all cyclists there ditched their bikes & got a car.Another nice vid showing top class cycling infrastucture.

why do you bike in the cold?
Faster
Easy to park
Healthy
Cheaper
Why not?
You don't die from the cold when you are cycling, I actually get very warm when I cycle with -5 degrees celsius.
Because he had to go to the dentist.

Because there's a big amount of bicycle traffic...?
How civilized is your country! Here in Brazil you would have been run over within the first 100 meters. It's sad. Anyway, I loved your video! :-)
How do you deal with 10 km/h cyclists?
you drive on the right side people are allowed to pass you on your left side, easy ;)

Cause the salt sprinkling cars can drive the path with ease. Not so much for the sidwalks.
Worrying about accidents really calls them...you could choke on a cookie.

09conrado the
That's because 50% of all the Dutch people are cycling everyday.
would have taken 250 minutes in a car
THIS HAS TO BE FAKE! HAHA. There is about a death a month where I live from cars running over us :(
12:04 better pass girls soon before they think I'm a rapist with a camera.
