    The Alcohol Relapse Test
No tv, no friends, no music.
Just me, my 2 bottles of wine and my video camera
You have to do this after the physical symptoms have gone - at least 30 days.
The idea of drinking alcohol makes me feel heavy and sick - I have done a complete 180 and not only do I not want to drink, I feel grateful - on an almost daily basis - that I never have to drink again.
For me, the most terrifying thing about alcohol relapse is how easy it is to believe that, by relapsing, we have lost the war. It is a mistake to believe that by losing a battle we have lost the war. The truth is that each battle makes us stronger as long as we remain committed to a better tomorrow.
Alcohol relapse can happen but it doesn't have to be the end of your journey, it can be just a detour.

I relapsed last week after 2 years alcohol free. I haven’t shamed myself even though I ended up with a concussion in A&E🙈 the alcohol hit me so bad I blacked out after 3 cocktails. Not only did I have a hangover from hell I also had a palm size lump on my head.
It’s a lesson and a reminder why I made the decision 2 years ago to stay alcohol free. The past 2 years have made me stronger before the relapse so I have forgiven myself and got back to my commitment. I won’t allow it to bring me back to the shame I used to have. It makes me more determined.

Exactly. The rock bottom thing is such a destructive way to look at it, thinking you HAVE to reach that point in order to get better.

You have such an amazing model Annie. I’m so glad my dad recommended me to you. I was doing hard drugs at 16, injecting them. I haven’t done that 7 years. Don’t crave it. I’ve always jumped from this one to the next one and so on… all to mask the pain that is stored in our bodies as well as our subconscious mind! Like it’s insane how powerful we are and what we are taught growing up… how beautiful ❤️

For me, there was never a time without alcohol. I started drinking when I was 2 because my stepfather at the time (sister's father/mom's boyfriend) would put Mickey's Ice beer in my sippy cup to make me go to sleep. I tried quitting as a teen but my actual stepfather would guilt me into drinking with him. I learned from a young age to be a high functioning alcoholic, cause "as long as you're still showing up to work/school sober you don't have a problem." It lead me to create my own definition of addiction that was always changing as my use increased. It hit a breaking point with my friends when I got in their faces and insulted their marriage, then I left despite them telling me to sleep it off. I got a DUI that night from getting in an accident and totalling my car. Luckily no one was hurt and the other car's damage was insignificant. I started treatment on my own, knowing that the court would order it for me anyways. Now I know I can't be trusted with alcohol, it depresses my thought process and prohibits me from filtering out intrusive thoughts. I have relapsed 3 times since my DUI and each time I saw a new reason to be sober. The last time I drank was June 17th, 2023. I had 4 wine cocktail shots, which is the least amount I've ever drank. I took that to mean sobriety was helping, but I still needed help with quitting it altogether.

Excellent video and , thank you so much , Cos every video, you do just hits the nail bang on target and, it gives people like myself . That more bit of hope, that we can beat this disease and. Not let it take over our lives and , enjoy our life without this poison. As you know im struggling myself at the moment, where I'm tempted to try a drink again but. It won't stop at that, it'll be back to square one and . Be a complete disaster, its just not worth it.

@@ThisNakedMind I'm getting there, slowly but surely. I feel doing it second time round, has hit me more harder. Than I thought and with Xmas coming up, that's always a time. When you're most tempted to take a drink, I think this year . With covid , we just it over and done. I can't wait, for New year. I really hope , it gets better cos . I've never gone through, as many mental changes. In my whole life, but all I can do. Is my best, hope all is well. With yourself , and stay safe 😉
