Why are so many Europeans voting for far-right parties? | James O'Brien on LBC

- With the 80th anniversary of D-Day taking place last week, James O'Brien discusses the general shift to the right in politics across Europe.
'In the context of D-Day commemorations, how can so many people in Europe have voted for far-right parties? Why is this country going in the other direction?' asks James O'Brien
James O'Brien wonders why the UK 'appears to be moving leftwards', while some parties like AfD, 'riddled with Nazi legacy', are gaining support.
‘What they have in common is they insist reducing the number of foreigners or minorities in a country would make it better for everyone left there…'
'... But they don’t actually agree on what minorities should be discriminated against.’
Just days ago French President Emmanuel Macron dissolved the National Assembly and called new parliamentary elections. This comes after a defeat in a European vote as the far-right surged in the country's European elections.
The far-right populist Alternative for Germany (AfD) has also made significant gains in the 2024 European elections, and controversially its largest success was among young people.

Far right. Extremist parties.
Because the see a social system, that crakes on all sides due to social parasites.
Fascism is an emergent property of the social conditions caused by Laissez-Faire capitalism and the social destruction of neo-liberalism.
Of course, literally the only way to solve it and to right the wrongs of the capitalists is through a Marxist lens, but when the owning class runs the media they would rather have the actual Nazis rise back up, because fascists never improve the lives of the working people, than risk losing their social and economic power tokens.

There’s no point just pointing the finger at the people voting in that direction and telling them they are wrong.
They have a vote, they have an opinion. Push them too far by ignoring their voices and you will motivate them to vote for a change and leave the door wide open for an extremist to gain a shock win.
It’s no shock how extremist get into power, it’s historically well documented.

It's in OTHER countries that people are moving to the right, places that don't have James.
@bipolarminddroppings I strongly suspect that when the votes are counted there will be more right-wing votes than left. The issue will be that there are plenty of morons who will vote reform and split the right wing vote, handing Labour the majority. Labour (and followers like you) will mistakenly believe that this gives them overwhelming public support. It will be a mistake that comes back to bite them as they will ignore typically right wing concerns like immigration and high taxation. It will create a tinderbox for an extreme right wing party to come to power. History has shown us this multiple times. It'll be an interesting period to live through. Just look at the recent elections in Europe. People are fed up with left wing politics. The same will happen in the UK very quickly after Labour take over.
Yet another self-opinion Woker, calling anybody right of Stalin "far-right", they need to accept that being right of Diane Abbott, or Corbyn is not far-right.

Are we the baddies ??? 😂
Yes. The militant identitarian left are very much the baddies.
in 2014 sweden had the lowest violent crime rate in europe per capita. in 2015 they let in 160k refugees. today they have the 2nd highest violent crime rate in europe. 89% of people in prison for violent crime are the refugees. 48% of them are unemployed. i cant remember the exact number but since october 2023 theyve had about 150 explosions. this has happened across europe. for example in germany where 60% of their crime overall is now committed by non germans. every single one of the right wing shifts was exclusively because of refugees and immigration. even the ones that have remained super progressive (ie finland), have changed exactly one thing about their policy- refugees. finland literally declared that parts of syria were now safe so that the refugees could be sent back there.
perhaps james might want to know that
also, i could just keep listing facts about europe, but i thought i'd also mention this one: sweden is a benevolent welfare state. it gives more in benefits to non swedes than its military budget. also a big problem europe has with them is that they hand out passports like candy. so other EU member states have to let the refugees in when they have a swedish passport.
EDIT: people are asking for sources. this information is so widely available that i wont bother because i cant be bothered

Also, just a quick point. If they have a Swedish passport, they are no longer refugees. Unless they are fleeing Sweden.
If they have a Swedish passports, they're Swedish citizens, which is a contradiction in your statement that they give more benefits to non Swedish, as they obviously are Swedish if as you say, they are given Swedish passports.
or is it like they're not real Swedish people, like the Jews weren't real German people... is it like that sort of thing you're talking about?
Like ireland handing out thousands of passports to the brits, the brits has caused most of these refugees, because of bombing their countries. Going after their oil.

Because nobody learned from WW1
That's nonsense.
Why? Have you not seen what has happened in France and Germany in recent history? Net zero madness garnished with mass immigration.
Yes, and this is why history repeats itself.
Half of Europe in 1945 went to being under the heel of the Soviet jackboot and they voted more towards the centre overall and the more extreme right lost ground except in Germany. People are becoming more angry at the political ruling class ruling for themselves in general though of course the "far right" has to deal with the realities if it gets in power.
