+Brandon Cash Actually, it was trying to be more realistic than the game and make sure you knew that no one was safe, unlike the game. And they cut a bunch of the non-life-or-death stuff to keep the plot in a constant direction, as did the manga it was based off of.

The game was all about defying destiny and refusing to surrender anyone to their deaths; the anime is pretty much about making those characters submit to those odds even after all the work they've done to take down all seven Septentriones, pretty much turning the whole farce into your average Final Destination movie.
