I miss old J Paycheck. he was as good anyone. I could listen to him all day. To me his best song was old violen. He had a lot of great songs So many great real country are no longer with us anymore. I miss them all. Country is no longer the same.
He truly deserved to be in the G.O.O. ,and he would have been their much earlier if he never had the personal problems he had in the 70s and 80s ,and i still don't believe he ever got the props he deserved !
HE SOUNDED BETTER RIGHT THERE IN THIS VIDEO NEAR THE END OF HIS CAREER , THAN HE DID WHEN HE WAS YOUNGER ,MY FAVORITE COUNTRY SINGER OF ALL TIME ,A TRUE LEGEND !
+Paul Evans Worst thing that ever happened to Paycheck was "Take This Job and Shove It." Didn't show his voice at all. Not even one of his 10 best songs. He's the only singer I know who can change octaves in the middle of a stanza and you can barely even tell it because he changes the timbre of his voice so expertly - he does this, for example, in "Only Hell My Mama Ever Raised." I kept trying to find the key change in that before I finally realized he was on the same key an octave higher.
Paul, there are some great singers who have stated exactly what you said about JP. Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, George Jones, Marty Robbins and Conway Twitty just t name a few have all said he was the most underrated country singer of all time and who could argue with that, JP was brilliant and he even taught George Jones to get the most out of his vice, a true fact.
dale watson does aload of jp cover songs i would love to hear dale sing this one too but nothing compares to the originals and where is don williams ? RIP JP
Maybe I should be,I couldn't do no hard farm labor no more getting to young and not as strong as I use to be on that anymore. ajust saying. I sure could watch you and bring you tea are water.lmao Love old country songs
