People will do crazy shit to avoid taking personal responsibility! Psychologically, its likely they believe they are not being abusive because they were verbally abused growing up. As a result, this laid a basic framework and in their subconscious, it doesnt register that they are toxic because its so normal to them. That said, there is also cognitive dissonance. They KNOW, at some level, they’re toxic but instead here, their ego gets in the way. To admit they’re toxic would be to admit they’re assholes, and the ego wants to preserve the feeling of “goodness” or “being a good person”. As such, they try to justify it with something usually unreasonable. This all results in them being unaware of their toxicity while also justifying it as to still remain a “good person”. Video games also work on the brain to suppress our emotional state to an extent and for gamers, this is bad because all our pent up frustration and rage at the game can cause us to suddenly lash out at others because we have reached a breaking point. Essentially, the internal pressure from the anger and frustration builds to a point where it becomes volatile and thus it appears that very small things will set a person off, but its not that thing in isolation. Its everything else leading up to that smaller thing. Gamers are interesting to view from a psychological standpoint because, being one of them, I’m sadly not immune to the effects. Awareness helps a lot though as im able to keep myself very much under control.
It's both sad and kinda scary that the go to for them to say to women when they get mad is usually calling them ugly, fat, slut, and many times from my experience threatening sexual violence. Every insult generally comes back to physical attractiveness, you have to realize how many of these guys would never say that to your face but that's how they truly view women. It makes you scared what guys in your actual life could be thinking the same thoughts but not saying it
I do not understand the height thing. I do not care if a woman is 3 foot or 7 foot. And my own height is not a big deal to me. Not sure why people are bothered by it.

I've been gaming for over three decades now and I love introducing new people to gaming...admittedly I don't play many competitive online games with the exception of occasional Rocket League because those games attract the worst kind of people, but mainly play co-op games.

Which is why I usually recommend to any girl to mute/report. I used to play with ppl like him in the same lobbies when I was 14-15 in cod warfare and bo3. Boys are very harsh to each other from a very young age. I recall the direct agressive behaviour from age 6 or even before that. So you cant change how teen boys behave behind a screen. You are only control of how you react to it. The truth is that a lot of women,specially teenage girls are not used to this type of speech so when they enter online communities,they hear "go back to the kitchen" or something silly/stupid like that and dont touch competitive online games again. I've experienced only like 2 toxic women in valorant and it was pick me girls with the "her Jett" "his sage" pair trying to impress the guy by being toxic to a woman. I had a girl tell me to make her a sandwich and that I wasn't good at the game even though I was too fragging while she was bottom fragging. The point is, girls (in my experience I don't speak for everyone) are usually the more mature one in the situation because we are all used to it. When one girl talks I feel more comfortable talking. It's such a great feelings when everyone in your team is a girl because you almost 100 know they aren't gonna be toxic. Good on you for fighting fire with fire. i feel this. i've noticed in my games when i start to talk other girls on my team start to talk too and i think we just feel more comfortable speaking in chat when theres already another girl doing it (for the most part). I usually only talk in chat if im in a party cause i know i'll have people to laugh about toxicity with or they will back me up. It just makes me feel good whenever i start to talk and another girl feels comfortable enough to talk cause i did :)

During one of the games in that time someone was being toxic and I responded back with something in full confidence and the entire team was against him for being a dick and then he went silent for the entire game other than typing In team chat that our teammates sucked (he was bottom fragging I was top) and that everyone sucks and I was just being positive along with the rest of the team and my friend. And at the end the team was like "REYNA MVP" and I died laughing LMFAOVFISND (for context I was the Reyna and I bottom fragged until the third round and within those 3 rounds I got trash talked by the toxic person saying "lmfao well look who's the mvp of the game" to any argument I said 💀

As a male, I think other people being sexist online is pretty disgusting, and honestly can we all just play a game that we all enjoy having fun on? Its cool to trash talk, but I really want us all to have fun, it'll be better if we don't bring gender into it.

As a woman, I’ve only experienced maybe 1 encounter with a girl being toxic or giving an attitude, but they’re overall extremely nice and positive. But boys? I wouldn’t even call them men. honestly that is why I never talk - valo is my first game like this and my aim is basically nonexistent, I cant orient on the map and all that jazz. So in their eyes I would be practically "asking for it". People will do crazy shit to avoid taking personal responsibility! Psychologically, its likely they believe they are not being abusive because they were verbally abused growing up. As a result, this laid a basic framework and in their subconscious, it doesnt register that they are toxic because its so normal to them.
That said, there is also cognitive dissonance. They KNOW, at some level, they’re toxic but instead here, their ego gets in the way. To admit they’re toxic would be to admit they’re assholes, and the ego wants to preserve the feeling of “goodness” or “being a good person”. As such, they try to justify it with something usually unreasonable.
This all results in them being unaware of their toxicity while also justifying it as to still remain a “good person”.
Video games also work on the brain to suppress our emotional state to an extent and for gamers, this is bad because all our pent up frustration and rage at the game can cause us to suddenly lash out at others because we have reached a breaking point. Essentially, the internal pressure from the anger and frustration builds to a point where it becomes volatile and thus it appears that very small things will set a person off, but its not that thing in isolation. Its everything else leading up to that smaller thing.
Gamers are interesting to view from a psychological standpoint because, being one of them, I’m sadly not immune to the effects. Awareness helps a lot though as im able to keep myself very much under control.
It's both sad and kinda scary that the go to for them to say to women when they get mad is usually calling them ugly, fat, slut, and many times from my experience threatening sexual violence. Every insult generally comes back to physical attractiveness, you have to realize how many of these guys would never say that to your face but that's how they truly view women. As a woman, I’ve only experienced maybe 1 encounter with a girl being toxic or giving an attitude, but they’re overall extremely nice and positive. But boys? I wouldn’t even call them men. i'm a transmasc person, but pre-testosterone so i still sound like a girl and obviously perceived as such by teammates i get. now obviously they don't know that i'm trans, so i'm not upset over misgendering -- my issue lies in the fact that the way they guys speak to me feels so dehumanizing. i play overwatch, so i'm not entirely sure what valo is like, but i can imagine it's just as bad if not worse. it's really crazy how the way a guy trash talks another guy is completely different from how they trash talk someone they perceive to be a girl. the insults you hear change from the basics like "you're dogsh*t" to ones insulting & belittling /you/ as a person all because of how your voice sounds. all of a sudden you're no longer just a 'bad player', you're a 'boosted egirl b*tch with no skill' -- and god forbid you talk back, that's when they start mocking you. it's why i never speak in vc unless i'm grouped with someone because even when no one is being toxic, there's almost always some creep who immediately goes "oh my god it's a female!" and tries to flirt all game.
