The Headland IS Hartlepool. Its history goes back for over 2,000 years. My ancestors are from there and some are buried in the much neglected "Old Cemetery" which is now nothing but an absolutely dog wasted mess! I guess I should thank the makers of this video for all of the 45 SECONDS of exposure but NO. I feel nothing but disgust at the neglect of such an ancient area. The true heart and ORIGINAL town. Anyone remember West Hartlepool ??

My uncle Victor who used to sing with Opera Singers in London serenaded the shoppers in the Middleton Grange Shopping Centre one day and the Hartlepool Police carted him off!!! 😥

It is so sad to see the old town I grew up in go down the toilet, and all because the local council can only think of projects that the rich and outsiders with money can afford. They have bulldozed anything they dont like, or that gets in the way of their plans. (in the name of progress). What about progress that benefits local people , like those that cannot afford the fancy outlet prices and fancy marina housing prices. What about attracting industries for all those that are scratching a living on low paid jobs, and training centers for teenagers that are just leaving school ? The sad fact is, it is too late to turn around the downhill snowball that the city council has started. In years to come they will gradually push out all local people and replace them with those with fat wallets.

Let us all help to speed the day when this wonderful earth and its rich resources are held in common for the benefit of all humanity. We need an economic system which puts people first not profit.

It's definitely nice to see this video 4 years on and be able to see the changes projected here as actually being implemented in the town. What's already being done? Well, Church St. is currently under construction as is Seaton Carew sea front. Jackson's Landing has finally been levelled and is no longer just standing empty taking up all of that fantastic space.
People are quick to shit all over Hartlepool all of the time, and being from the town it breaks my heart to hear it. I moved away a number of years ago and miss it dearly, I honestly believe the phrase "you don't know what you've got till it's gone."
I think what some people need to remember is Hartlepool isn't some big city like London, Manchester, or even Newcastle. It will take time to get investment into a small Northern town like ours. And if you're not happy with the way things are going, complain to your local councillor about it. Or be the change you wish to see. Bitching about this on social media is hardly going to make any changes is it?
I for one am glad to see the town making such great leaps and bounds in such a positive and sustainable direction.

You need to take a little more interest in what is actually happening with the Council rather than look at "what they have done, so far". Think why the people of Hartlepool are so unhappy within it. Is it because despite huge outcry and protest, they closed the hospital? A hospital which not only supported Hartlepool but all the surrounding mining towns like Horden, Blackhall, Wingate, etc causing everyone to travel to North Tees which now cannot handle the huge demand and intake? Maybe. For a town of this size to not have its own hospital is pathetic. Is it because they started work on the Headland promenade, updating it and stuff, yet work has finished half way round because "its ran out of money". This whilst we have numerous pointless road works spouting up all over the town, causing huge tailback across the town, which strangely happens every year around this time. Wonder why? Nothing to do with the new tax year starting, i dont think. Or is it that despite the Councils continuous plea of poverty and no funds, they voted in house for them all to get a pay rise. Its sickening what this Council is doing to the town. Dont let their cheap talk of a "20 year vision" fool you. nothing is being done and its getting left in a worse state!

It will be too little too late - things need to start to happen now to stop the rot and encourage people back to the town - including having the A&E at the hospital

I grew up in Hartlepool, and left in 2012 or 13. I miss it so much, even though it was a dig shit town. I know people might read this and be people from my old school, if you are from St. Aidens, comment. I'm Libby, the one who left to go to Australia, lol.

If there was any chance of real investment in the town and decent job prospects for me and my family I'd move back, but sadly 25yrs since I moved away things seem to be the same if not worse. I hope things do progress though.

I'm sure everyone in Hartlepool would rather have a proper hospital again with A&E than waste all that money.

Hmm, I can't see this ever happening. They've been saying this for years, look what happened to Jackson Wharf. Personally I can't wait to get out of this town. We don't even have an A&E ffs!

  • @gavh888

the marina is the only thing the council are interested in, and repeatedly waste our council tax on, why divert the town traffic towards the marina instead of along raby road and the odeon cinema? reason they dont want people to see the real hartlepool, the hartlepool they dont care for anymore always saying theirs no money. unless its for their beloved marina

Why not just do what your predecessors did and rip buildings down that they didn't like the look of, the proud history of West Hartlepool has been obliterated, what they did leave standing isn't worth investing in. Just let it die with dignity
