    What tip do you think is the most useful?

    • @SouthWestIron

      Hovering in place and letting the action unfold is excellent.

      Steve Coutts ... you did good bud.. all great tips... I utilize mine very similarly. My last vlog..... was pretty much 97% ground shot.... one areal shot at most. Good sound video production advice.

      Thanks. I took a look at your last one, yeah, I like it. Some very tricky flying there. I really think that type of flying is where the Spark excels.

      I agree with you on shooting everything and doing the edits later. Btw, what software do you recommend, one that does not crash unexpectedly line the one I'm using?

    • @SteveCoutts
      @SteveCoutts  7 лет назад +1

      I use Final Cut Pro X for all my editing. Generally it has been very stable. The times when it has crashed on me unexpectedly, I was shocked to discover that I did not lose *any* work. Seriously... nothing! There probably isn't any software out there that is 100% stable but it's good to know that when it does go down you're not going to lose hours of work. Good luck. 😀

    I own a Phantom 4 Advanced however I recently decided I wanted a smaller drone and bought the Spark off of Kijiji. It has become my go-to drone for many reasons. Last evening I stumbled up on your videos and I must say that they brought a "Spark" into my desire to take more composed shots and videos rather than just use Litchi for it's Mission abilities. I just love my Spark and this spring, when we finally lose the freekin' snow (New Brunswick, Canada), I hope to get more interesting shots by applying your advice and tips. Thanks Steve and keep up the fine job in helping your fellow droners use one of the best tools of the trade; SPARKY!

    I just wanted to say I enjoy your tips and explanations. I have been in photography & for some 30 + years and videography for at least 20 + years and everything you have shown and talked about is what a really good photographer/videographer should know and use. Since I'm new to using a drone I appreciate you reminding me that a drone can be an "extension of my camera/video/photo skills." I have found using my Spark for "dolly shots" are exceptional and makes it so much easier then setting up tracks, etc. Keep-up the great videos.

    I can use a lot of help. I get frustrated not knowing what I want to film. I feel like I spend to much time trying to get the shutter and white balance down. I burn a lot of battery before I get enough video to create a short clip.
    I need to plan my shots more and be patient. I keep telling my self to think of what I want to film before I fly. Then I get to the point to where I’m like forget this.
    All the tips help.
    Tank you & keep uploading!

    • @SteveCoutts

      Personally, if you're just starting out I wouldn't worry about manual settings, you'll get good stuff most times just leaving it on auto. Just have fun flying and practice. It will come. Keep flying!

      Hey Double like Steve said don't worry so much about it at first. It's a completely different world when you have a flying camera. It takes a while to get used to if it's your first drone. Like you said, focus on patience. Having an extra battery is essential so you can spend more time getting used to it and lining up the right shots. I'm really diggin' these videos for some inspiration for what I can do with my Spark.

      Steve Coutts I’ve held off extra batteries up to now as I can charge them up in the van but it’s getting to point where I want to fly more often and longer so placing order this week. Yes, exactly. It's an OTG cable. It eliminates the WiFi connection from the phone/tablet to the remote. Works great on iOS. Android can be problematic if it works at all.

      I turn off the collision sensors all the time for close flying. You can turn off individual sensors, it's all or none. When I do the close flying, which is a lot of the time, the Spark is usually less than 20 feet away from me so I can navigate visually. I am also flying *VERY* slow. 😀

    Hello my question is lengthy but I'm sure u will give answer. how would u rate spark cam it's hd but not 4k here on RUclips 4k and hd looks same. I want a drone for nice pics and videos and I'm begginer so would u recommend spark.every1 looking for mavic air now which is $400 expensive then spark. I have 40 inch he LCD tv so how spark videos looks in bigger screen?

    • @SteveCoutts
      @SteveCoutts  7 лет назад +1

      For the beginner, I think the Spark is an awesome drone. And, yes, it does take "nice pics and videos". Of course, 4k is going to look much superior and much more detailed but you have to pay for that and that's a decision I can't make for you. (note: edited "doesn't" to read "does" - typo)

    When is auto mode useful?

    • @SteveCoutts
      @SteveCoutts  5 лет назад +1

      I think auto is a great place to be if you're just getting started with photo/video and drone flying. It's complicated enough flying a drone without having to worry about setting exposure and white balance. As you progress, I think it's natural to want better results. Those results come from getting off auto. Maybe that means beginning to use exposure lock or exposure compensation first before moving to full manual. But honestly, if you're happy with the results you get in full auto, who cares? It's really just about getting about there, being creative and having some fun. 😀👍

    I would suggest not to have video running all the time. It is easier to find the good bits and edit them if your file sizes are smaller. You know when you have completed a shot. Just stop and restart. Like that. Stop and instantly start again. Then when you review your shots you can rename your clips by adding on a brief description of content after the date stamp. When reviewing you can just delete sections that didn't contain anything worthwhile. The other advantage in "calling cut" on your clips is knowing that you have saved that file properly and it won't become corrupted if you switch off or lose power before you stop recording correctly. Start recording. Take off. Go to the first position. Stop recording, start again. If the take-off was uneventful you can just delete it. If you fly a lot you'll rapidly fill up your hard drive. Much of the flight material is second-rate, jittery, repetitive, not well composed etc. If your video is dissected into smaller chunks you can delete the dull chunks and free up space for more interesting stuff. The pauses can be just a second or so. I noticed that going to still mode on the Spark automatically breaks up the video into more manageable chunks. What's the point of a fourteen-minute long single take? It is hardly ever justified.

      People are going to have different workflows and opinions on workflows and what works best for them and that's perfectly fine. Personally, I found it easier to leave the video running from beginning to end on most occasions. I do sometimes stop/stop on specific shots but have kicked myself many, many times wishing I just had a few more seconds because I cut off the shot too early. It's not always easy to see the bigger picture on a tiny phone screen. Conversely, I have never found myself complaining about having too much video. Plenty goes in the trash bin (shaky, boring, etc..) and for bigger clips I just cut out the small bits I need and trash the rest. This workflow works well for me. 😀

    Like watching your vidoes. I absolutely love my spark ❤️ and fly it more than my Phantom 3s as its just so easy to travel around with and get decent shots.
    Do check out my channel when you get the time for some of my spark videos 😁
