for anyone who complains that she cuts the nails too short bcs it's bleeding; blood vessels in dogs' nails grow out when the nails aren't properly maintained. if you feel awful because the dog is screaming, trust me when i said it will be *a lot* more awful if you don't cut it at all and let the nails have infections. secondly, you may think "oh why don't you cut it slowly then?", cutting slowly will put more unnecessary stress on the dog and would risk making bigger injury on the nails. if you don't have the heart to watch, then don't watch it. really. sometimes you have to act tough for the sake of your dog's health and well-being. you can't always coddle your dog if there's a risk of them getting more hurt. thank you so much to the groomer for being patient and kind to ricco. and ricco, i'm so proud of you!! you're doing very good bb!! :D
The poor thing.. my dog was like this because she jerked away from the groomer as a puppy and a nail got cut too short. She was traumatized to the day she passed. We did this exact method of the neck collar(except we used ear plugs/muffs) You did such a fantastic job! Ricco did really well too❤ despite the nips
Just a question in case there's anyone who knows: is the an advantage to using a muzzle vs. not using a muzzle, or would a muzzle have been good/bad in this situation? My first thought is to muzzle and cone, but maybe that's not right. Not sure! Wanted to ask.
If we are discussing muzzles a properly fitted Basket Muzzle feels best for a dog. Cloth muzzles stop d9gs from panting and will stress them out. Most dogs also have never been trained to wear a muzzle. A cone is less stressful and when used properly and used properly won't allow you to be bitten in certain situations.

If your cutting his nails so short that he bleeds and then filing on top of that... that's pretty painful. They are never supposed to bleed. Try cutting your nails to where you bleed. I bet it hurts!
Did you watch the video? This is an abused dog who needed a 1 and done. The stress, fighting and biting had nothing to do with pain, and everything to do with a high strung, wildly upset, formerly abused dog who couldn't be worked on. The nails were not cut too short, the quick (bloodline) grows out when the nails are not properly maintained. No matter where she cut the nails would have bled. There is no getting around it. Better to have a few moments of pain (trust me, walking on deformed feet and curled under toenails that can lead to sores and infection hurts much worse and for a lot longer than a few snips of the nail) than lifelong issues.
@@nunyabiz6925 Thankfully my dog digs so he keeps his nails short. We have to get 1 clipped from each paw once in a while and it's a whole ceremony with me feeding treats through muzlle lol.
@@Jennifer_MB are you crazy to do that? no, the quick inside goes backwards again with cutting it step by step, bit by bit every week or two weeks. No need to hurt a dog!!
