What a magnificent thing of beauty! The Greeks certainly have a right to be proud of their cultural heritage and this huge effort at reconstructing one of the world's architectural and sculptural wonders!👍
I love the restoration of the ancient monuments as long as one can tell what is new and what is old/original. different shades of stone would certainly help. AND all the old pieces should be worked into the reconstruction. In Rome or Persia--the ancient counterparts of Greexce--, most of the remains are scattered around the buildings or built into newer buildings, but only little restoration has been attempted. I am glad the Greeks do it and nicely so. Oh, it also stabilizes the buildings and let them last longer. Replicas of the Elgin marbles of the pediment put in that empty space, would be very nice too. The Caryatids standing outside holding the roof, are all replicas (the originals being in the Acropolis Museum--mostly, and the rest in British Museum), so it should be okay. The horse head at the corner of Parthenon's pediment is in fact a replica already. I hope they also clean up those ugly iron rust that was inflicted on the marble by the earlier attempts. By the way, I love the language. Trying to learn it now from scratch. I know how to read the classical one, but the modern speech is so impressive too.
Absolutely Amazing. I really want to go to Athens now!. Just one observation. Nobody uses any protection gear, no helmets, no googles, neither safety shoes nor ropes to work in the altitude.
The Frankish tower was dismantled after the modern state of Greece decided nothing on the Acropolis other than antiquity, why then, would they put back the Frankish tower.
@@jerometurner8759 That wasn't a mistake, the Frankish tower was build in the middle ages by foreigners, it didn't belong there. Nothing that wasn't originally built by Pericles belonged there, that goes for both the Church and Mosque that were there during Byzantium, and Ottoman times. If you can't understand that, you either know nothing about the Acropolis, or you're just a troll.
@@chm5750 Why does only what Pericles built only belong on the Acropolis? Greek history isn't only the roughly decade it took to build the Parthenon. At the time, people throughout Europe including Greeks were upset it was demolished.
How do we know that they will not be destroyed by haters of the west civilization? Didn’t they destroy the two statues of the Buddha’s. And the temple in Lebanon recently. Didn’t they loot the museum if Irak?
Well in the past the westerners used to destroy monuments too, for example the early Christians destroyed most of the ancient Greek monuments while trying to wipe out the Greek culture. It is up to the countries that have them to protect them and hopefully in the future the whole world will be more civilized.
@@pgchris87 Weren't all the early christians semites? Nonetheless I hate them for what they did all these millenia ago believe me! The early christians really were the woke anti-civilizationists of their time... later on the early protestants followed in their footsteps with all the iconoclasm.
I’m a huge fan of the Acropolis, the Parthenon and of the entire ancient site since I was a kid. However, one thing that has caught my attention, that the workers are not wearing any protective wear, hard hats, reflective waist coats hard toe cap boots etc etc. With respect, but I cannot see any health and safety protocols applied to protect those professional workers. As a suggestion, which in my opinion it will reflect ‘team work’ and the importance of these restoration works, all the workers should wear uniform T-shirts or polo shirts with the logo of the Acropolis, as this would reflect professionalism and the branding of this important ancient site.
London Bridge was taken apart and reassembled...in Arizona USA. Is it still London Bridge? Yes it is but not In Situ. Is the Parthenon still there? Yes but not In Situ. As if the Ottoman Turk could not have destroyed it enough by making it a weapons depot (hence target), modern science thinks of lego bricks to be preserved. I am glad this work is ongoing but do not say this ediface is original. If you tear a tree up from its' roots and replant it in the same spot is it still the same tree? Perhaps. A few centuries will tell. Thank You for the upload. It is marked and liked as favorite.
What a cool thing to work on. The masons are very skilled

Excellent! Thank you for taking the time & care to make this documentary!
Very excellent job, guys:). I am sure it's gonna be restored next year. Keep up the great work👌😉🔥💯☯👍💪.
Thank you for the translation!!!! Good job!
Es una arquitectura incomparable.

Athens Great City, Torch of European Civilization!

Did the ancient Greeks use protection gear when constructing the Acropolis? Well, there ya go.
Some parts of this documentary are from the late 90's. I have the impression that aspects have been improved by now ... hopefully.
Fascinating
Very interesting, but it seems more a reconstruction than a restauration...
As goddess Nike proclaimed..."Just Do It"

This was a wonderful documentary! Thank you. It is such a treasure and deserves to be fully restored.
Good god wear masks when you create marble dust. Silicosis.

While they're at it, rebuild the Frankish tower.

How much would it cost to build a new Acropolis ?
