Amazing video! I'm going diving in Nungwi in January, what was your favorite diving sites? (I would love to go to that flat place with a lot of pink corals or sponges, what place is that?)
+Magnus Hald Thank you very much. Glad you liked the video. Nungwi won't disappoint. It's really very beautiful. If I'm not mistaken, the place you're talking about is called 'Levenbank'. It was definitely my favourite site. Good viz, lovely colours despite the depth (c.25-30m) and beautiful fish. A word of warning though: the dive company we dived with told us that most dive shops don't know how to do Levenbank properly. The company we dived with went to the site hundreds of times (without customers) to work out exactly what time of day works and what sea conditions allow for good diving at that site. If you get there at the wrong time, the viz is really bad. So make sure that if you are going to pay for a dive at Levenbank, you go with people who know what they're doing and when is best to go. 'Nattabomi' was also a good site. We saw some octopodes scorpionfish, turtles and angelfish. Really nice. 'Magic Reef' if you like small pretty things (nudibranches, seahorses), but the viz isn't great there. Definitely Levenbank was the best though.
+alonmargolin Sounds really nice, I haven't got my advanced certificate yet, do you think they would let you dive it, with only Open Water? Btw, where did you see the best coral cover, besides Levenbank? And would it pay off to take a boat diving trip to South Pemba? Thanks for the advice tho!
Magnus Hald I'm not sure, to be honest. I think you probably could get away with it, but generally speaking it's not a good idea to dive deeper than you are qualified. Not only is it unsafe in terms of your understanding of what happens to the body when it goes deeper than 18/20m; it also poses questions for liability and insurance - so make sure you know the risks before choosing to dive beyond Open Water depth restrictions. It was a while ago, so I can't remember where all the best coral was, but wherever you go, you won't be disappointed. It's all v beautiful there. Re. Pemba, why not? I didn't visit there myself, because there was already so much to see in Nungwi and wanted to have a relaxing time. It wouldn't surprise me if the trip to Pemba takes an hour or two (depending on the boat you take). We dived on Mnemba atoll and the journey there was about 20mins. Rough seas and a small boat meant that the journey back was about an hour. Apparently that was the first time in years that the sea had been that rough. I'd say just decide when you get there. The dive centres may not have enough clients who want to go to Pemba for it to work out... So it's not always something you can plan in advance.
Diving there is great. That's basically all we did. Thoroughly enjoyable diving. Spanish Dancer Divers highly recommended. I have heard good things about various Spice Tours, and about walking around the old parts of Stone Town, but unfortunately didn't have time for them myself. I would love to go back there. Make the most!

the background music is perfect! what is it? :)
Thank you, Larry Liu. The music is three tracks:
1. Melody Day - Caribou (Four Tet remix)
2. Bali Hi - Deep-Dive-Corp.
3. Gun-shy - Grizzly Bear
