Attractive AND unattractive people are more attractive when an attractive personality goes with it. A physically beautiful person can be ugly on the inside. Imagine being ugly inside and out. That would be a miserable person.
On that proverbial 1-10 scale: Good personality add 1-3 points. Add a sincere smile, add 1-3 points. Add not too overweight, add 1-3 points. If an unattractive woman will put a little effort into "passed over" good men, I think there is a bit more hope here than implied.
