I hardly ever watch videos longer than 10 minutes but this one was a real treat. Thank you very, very much. Muchas, muchas gracias.
Learned two things from you. Never seen a whipping done with a fid. Very good. I’ve always used a needle. Tarred beeswax, that’s new to me. Will have to try and find some. Thanks
Just love the simplicity and heritahe of this rope work. I was looking for a knot to end a railing rope for our pier. Was wondering the knot thats used on sea chest handle bolts.
Thanks for sharing your amazing skills and craft. It's inspiring. What would you recommend for making it adjustable if you wanted to use it with a heavy coat and without?
Thanks once again, excellent sound track and I think I recognize the fid, another triple threat ;) If the phukko isn't medieval, I wonder what might be...very Franciscan, I'm thinking friar Tuck would have worn with pride though his would probably have been longer and had a wine skin hanging...

What an instructive Joy!
Great video - easy to follow. Would love to see a video on how you make the swedish fid.

That Sailors whipping knot is awesome how the end disappears when you snug up the end. Great work.
I really dig the tarred beeswax treatment on the whipping twine:) This is a really cool project, now I want to make one!
Love the medieval whipping! 😜
Just totally love your work Brilliant job once again Mate thank you for sharing 👍
Beautiful work as always. You can tell it's still winter in Finland... you have on shoes! ;-)
🤣
That was impressive thanks for posting enjoyed the content and the sound track blended as well as your splice did !
Sehr schön gezeigt. Ruhig bitte mehr davon.

Stopper knots have many uses and there is a big variety of them!
@@mikkosnellman stopper knots... I'll do a search.
@@mikkosnellman Manrope Knot is the one I'm looking for, seem to have a becket tutorial somewhere :-)

That is one sharp knife!!
A high carbon steel puukko always is!
A recipe for a rope belt:
"Take a fathom of a hemp rope,
A yard of a flax whipping twine
And a drachm of a tarred wax..."
;D
Very nice work !
Sorry for my smartarse comment about the masking tape. This was beautiful. Thank you.
Just because we haven't found any traces of medieval masking tape, it doesn't prove that it wouldn't have existed! 😅
Bravissimo Mikko...-_😊👍⚓🚩
Thanks for sharing your amazing skills and craft. It's inspiring.
What would you recommend for making it adjustable if you wanted to use it with a heavy coat and without?
My every day rope belt is longer and I tie it to fit.
Mikko when you say tarred beeswax what is the process for making that. I am sure I probably have the supplies to make it at home. LOL!
I just add very small amount pine tar into melted beeswax, nothing more.
@@mikkosnellman Thanks!
Amazing
Amazing work 🙌 could you tell me the diameter of hemp rope that you used, please?
That would be 8mm
@@mikkosnellman thank you Mikko 😊
where do I get the medieval masking tape at to whip the ends of my hemp rope?
Medieval masking tape is sold only on black market due to its rarity 😉
Can you let me know the music track to this video please? Also, how thick was your hemp rope?
I use music from Martin Tallström www.tallstrom.com The rope I use in this video is 9mm hemp.
Mi respeto saludos desde Tabasco
bravo !

Yes, you might do a "Tuck model" :) The puukko is Finnish "Tommi" model from 1800´s.
Bel lavoro
@mikko snellman,
As long as the end product is accurate, I don´t think that´s relevant...
To tie a knot, sometimes you must first dismantle the rope.
What is the name of the tool you are using?
The wooden tool is called simply a fid and the metal one I call a "Finnfid" - An improved version of Swedish fid.snellman.ax/tools.html
Music is nice but a voice over to instruct would've been nice.
Thank you for the feedback. My later videos are usually narrated.
They had masking tape in medieval times? Did not know that.
Sure they did. Though is was called washi at the time :)
👏👌
You are right. If you come up with a solution, let us know :)
Hmm
!!!!!!
Lost me at the knots.
Just keep on trying, you´ll get it eventually!
TOO COMPLICATED DUDE
Once you have made a few it doesn't feel so complicated anymore...
Learning involves instruction, practice, and working through failure. Mikko is providing instruction. The rest is on you. Are you too lazy to learn?
