- The ANC says the primary role of its proposed government of national unity (GNU) will be to deal with the triple challenge of poverty, unemployment and inequality, among others.
The governing party opted for this after failing to secure an absolute majority after last week's election.
To unpack this, we turn to Political Analyst Sandile Swana.

Always balanced Mr Swana. Like the emphasis on politicians ‘standing for principle’. Thank you.
Brilliant analyst!
What the govt needs to realise is that they are here to serve the ppl and to do what's best for the ppl of South Africa and not for other party or corporation. Following this basic rule should give them all the correct direction to take.
💯
The issue of serving people is long gone. Both DA and the ANC do not create jobs but they talk a lot about that
Mr Sandile Swana was my Lecturer at Wits University Business School.
For now ,it's only logical to go this route....the challenge will be getting all parties to agree to put the interest of the south African people first....
That wouldn’t be hard if they actually wanted to put the interest of the SAns but they are all liars
And I hope that the interests of us whose votes we believe were not tallied entirely or correctly will also not be ignored as is being the case right now.
The ANC could not address those 3 areas in 30 years when they had all the power? How will they do it now?
Absolutely!!!
They must make it work come 2026 if they did not perform we the voter will show or anger no more color just south Africans ok
I wish that too but after this elections I'm seeing there is more race based policies and benefits and a lot of ppl who just wana get what they get not considering the ride is almost out of fuel
Sandile Swana continues to be realistic in his analysis. He makes a valid point in saying that the economy grew with 4% when Mbeki was the President and the DA was not any nearer that achievement.
But the DA were never leading party.
Can SABC please have more panel discussions, so that we can hear more varied views. Because all we keep getting is the opinion of one person without anyone answering their wrong assumptions and statements.
The GNU is the only option for SA at this point in time keeping in mind the economically and morally corrupt activities of the ANC, EFF, MK, if any of those parties were to be given the sole mandate after this election to rule this country SA will be finish within two years.
I agree we all know this but it's still a possibility. Criminals don't wana Give up their access to stealing the country's funds.
White people are more corrupt
Criminals are everywhere
You're talking nonsense if you don't like policies of the EFF and MK don't speak nonsense about them instead their policies with facts. No government or political party globally is pure there isn't elements of looting even your beloved DA steals
You are anti. Black
Excellent summary
TOO MANY COWARDS
How true is that.
Government of National Unity for what, this is just rubbish!!!
Again the ANC can't make a decision, why can't they pick up one or two parties to govern with?
That nonsense is NOT going to work, they are wasting everyone's time. We will always NEED an opposition party all the time, to think that can just be squashed is stupid
Investors were happy with the ANC in the days of Thabo Mbeki...as they were with Nelson Mandela..so they didn't need the DA...as they do today.
They do because they know exactly who Ramaphosa is and have concluded he cannot be trusted
I agree the cases must go
BEE must go!
Ok. Why does this BEE policy exist?
The professor agrees that the ANC now is not the same then again argues that the DA is not required in the current scenario. That's the crux that they lost majority to MK &DA, it's not about personalities. Why can ppl say that Palapala must go as much as Juju said Zuma must go.
The DA did not move from where they were. The change was brought about by the MK - please don't take this away from us.
lf one of these parties want to make coalitions with ANC must know that there is an open case ofPhala Phala and case against Mbalula that must be attended to. When not forget about the honest leading the country for South Africans. It will still stay as it is. The ones Who want to lead can only clean this cabinet first in the country, that the investors can have( a trust for their businesses here in this country.).
Lets close this gnu. Lets go vote again
The looting kadres fear the honesty of DA involvement.
Wena talking nonsense
Is DA doesn't have looters?
@@nomalungelongcete5875 Wena o slow learner
DA is excited at the idea of a GNU.
ANC abondoned Mandela revolution and the people of South Africa. Obviously ran out of steam and ambition. Takk about how to limit this disgraceful negativity on African politics.
People don't need grants, they need jobs!
The fact is the ANC has lost and lost all authority...the ANC will be lucky to have anything to do with government.
To.many cowards.... says it all.
So true
They should just cut off the tender system
😂DA can pull a criminal file on any leader of the anc including ramadollar 😂
😂😂😂
This time around smart voters never waisted their votes
Ayanda seems confused about the title of dude.. what's the correct title - prof/Dr/Mr, dude seems happy to keep the confusion going 😂
Reminds me of Eugene Nyathi and Palo Jordan ...
How will a government of people with different agendas serve to the purpose of ending inequality
That will be not easy at all
What does inequality mean? A Lfty buzzword.
@@halfdome4158 you need to live in SA to know the meaning google or the dictionary won’t define it properly
There is already division this party doesn't want that party to be part of GNU like a bunch of Pre School children I won't play if little Johnny plays with . Come on politicians stop your bullshit start doing what's best for the Country not your childish egos
What I can not understand sitting here in the UK is this, over two-thirds of the vote, went to the political parties on the left with similar policies. Why do you need a national unity government instead of a coalition with like-minded parties? They don't need the DA.
Because the ANC understand them they are corrupt, infiltrated with criminals and no political willing to resolved the real challenges of the country like the last 15 years have shown!!! Unfortunately 64% of the voters can't see that! They still give their votes to people and socialist/communist policies that have not worked anywhere else in the world, including in SA!
Visit SA, and go look for yourself which provinces work best, in general. There's one, the Western Cape. It is governed by the DA. That's why they're needed. These left wing parties are mainly thieves and crooks, stealing from the people who voted them into power.
They are 80 % similar, which is still a problem.
The western markets have South Afirca by the balls and the cowards in power cannot call anyone's bluff even though we have BRICS
@@sthembisomthembu395 With an 80% similarity, reaching a consensus is easier. With the DA, it is impossible.
ANC shud join up with MK simple&klaar they are from similar camps then they shud fire both leaders like Zuma&Ramaphosa& have new leaders maybe give it 2 years & have new leaders
This might be a dumb question but who will be part of the GNU?, everyone in parliament?
Pretty much, yes. That's why it isn't really a decision. It's more avoiding to make a decision.
@@carlruppert7324 Cyril always struggled in making the hard decisions so i dont find this surprising
@@carlruppert7324I understood it was ANC, DA, IFP and PA.
@@SharonKeune-zo1zi i also thought that because didnt he list the parties they spoke with
Sandie once had an engen stop. Correct
"Professor.. I mean Mr." 😅😅
Coalitions work best between parties fishing in different ponds.
What about sabotage
What do you mean? GNU works if like minded parties unite not opposing party!
What propaganda is this? The whole point of a GNU is that 1 or 2 parties can't make all the decisions. Also, does he realise that the economy only did well under Mbeki because: He was pro business & investment (current ANC & EFF, MK are anti-business) and, more importantly, he became president merely 6 years after the ANC inherited a roaring, healthy and efficient economy from the Apartheid govt so he really didnt have to much.
Unequal society ,Corruption and Unemployment is three key issues and at the center is unequal society and Da has no potential to solve that ..Media ,white monopoly capitalists want to enforce Da to the people of SA and thanks this speaker has clarified this hype of useless DA inSA when he touched on Thabo Mbeki issue
Akumiwe iphalamende ungahlali kulungiswe lomonakalo
Fix all the issues in South Africa first before worrying about what is happening in Palestine.
Journalist and news presenters needs to learn to be neutral because this on is biased
lol Ironically you mention Bheki, and yet it was the ANC that ousted him
I thought it was Zuma who set up the Mbeki decision so he could get Power. Now he has done it again... beware all citizens.....
We dont need othet parties two parties are enough periot. That is why they cant rich the conclusion.
DA or nothing.
😂a dead snake being hoisted 😂false boogey man to form a GNU of the DA😂
😂😂
I can't wait to see how 3 things will unfold..1 PHALA PHALA ISSUE ,2 NHI & 3 THOSE IMPLICATED IN STATE CAPTURE 🤣🤣🤣...FELLOW MK MEMBERS ,LET US SIT BACK ,RELAX N WATCH SINCE THEY SAY THEY DNT WANT US,WE R CHAOTIC ....
President Ramaphosa has left us in a difficult situation, primarily because he opted for a Government of National Unity (GNU). This decision came after his plan to position John as deputy was exposed, indicating his preference for an ANC-DA coalition over an ANC-MK-EFF coalition. While many ANC members favor an ANC-MK-EFF coalition, Ramaphosa and influential groups in Stellenbosch support an ANC-DA coalition, which would position John as the next president.
By announcing the GNU, the Democratic Alliance (DA) will be part of the government, reflecting Stellenbosch's lack of trust in an ANC-MK-EFF government without DA involvement. They prefer the DA to be integrated into the coalition. It is imperative for the ANC to remove Ramaphosa before it’s too late; his actions threaten to leave us in further disarray. While a GNU was understandable in 1994, it is not appropriate in the current context. It appears that Ramaphosa and Stellenbosch had a Plan B-creating a GNU-as a fallback if the ANC-DA coalition plan failed. This maneuver is a profound betrayal.
ANC should look for like minded parties. GNU wont work,
How can you mix oil and water? It won’t work,MK will have the last laugh again.
They should beg zuma,
AMEN!
What for?
For what?
He should be arrested,And WILL be,once DA takes over😊
