      @MaxineWashington A lot of Hong Kongers want to go back to being a colony of Britain due to how much things have changed for the worst.

    The good old days of Hong Kong. A vibrant city full of hard working and creative people. Endless impressions to be amazed. Traditional food markets with cheaky but kind merchants haggling for every dollar. Huge skyscrapers only one block further. Heat outside, AC inside. Hot, cold, hot, cold. And then there was something else in the old days of British rule. Something no camera can easily film: Freedom of speech, freedom religion, freedom of assembly, freedom of the press, a truly independent judiciary and the rule of law. God save the Queen.

      Not really a fallacy on balance. True, the early movers after the war had built wealth and were taking over the economy, but in 1990 there was still freedom of all sorts to do quite a bit. It even became more open after that...for a while.

      Indeed. I see many people (supporters of the CCP) who argue that British Hong Kong wasn't a true democracy. Yes, that might be true, but it was a thousand times better than modern day Hong Kong. And remember that even if the British were to enforce their laws on Hong Kong, none of their laws called for the eventual establishment of a totalitarian regime.

    • @MarioStahl1983
      @MarioStahl1983 2 года назад +12

      @@colonelarmfeldt8572 Right! British Hong Kong was NOT democratic but it had civil liberties and the rule of law with a truly independent judiciary. It was a semi-democratic system. And above all: The governor of Hong Kong was dependent on and accountable to a truly democratic government (in London). It was NOT AT ALL compareable to today's Hong Kong.
