I am a new subscriber, and I just wanted to let you know that I enjoy your content very much. The way your fingers move is almost like watching ballet, or a symphony conductor... there is a grace and beauty to the magickal motions of spinning, which you really have down pat. I am brand new to the craft, so your videos inspire me. I have skill-goals to work toward, and if I can emulate a fraction of your ability I'll be able to succeed, and that's very cool. Thank you for the content! And yes, this second attempt yarn is way better than the first. Hugs

You make it look so easy! Even on a dang pencil! Now I have to pull out my Turkish tiny and try it again.

The cardboard pieces remind me of my original spindle. It was a wooden dowel with a clay whorl with some patterns etched into the clay, I would spin some yarn, put cardboard pieces on to make a turtle, and then put the whorl on so I could have some weight until the turtle became big enough to become the whorl

The clipped coat hanger method is how I teach my students a little about spinning when we discuss "The Olden Days." They make a friendship bracelet when they let it spin back on itself to create the ply. :)

That is brilliant! I honestly had never tried it until filming this episode. It was much easier than I expected.

I first got interested in spinning because a farmer standing next tot he sheep pasture showed my 2nd grade class how to drop spindle. Then he showed us how to do it with a pencil and an apple. I went home and decimated the apples and cotton balls in the house. Mom was not impressed and put a stop to it. LOL
