I would definitively say the best thing you can do for your application is to come to the US and do some observerships. This is the best way to get LORs from US pathologists for your application. Best of luck!

It's hard to say. Really depends on how confident you will match into bigger academic centers. Though I have to say 8 residents sharing 3-4k cases is not much per person. I had seen ~4k cases myself a year. If you are a competitive applicant, it might be worth while leaving it off your rank list.
Sorry, not that I know off. Pathology interviews are very chill in the most cases. Just prepare for: why pathology? And some other common interview questions like "what's a weakness" or "give me example of an mistake you made and how you learned from it"
Hi Dr. Wang, what are your thoughts on the importance of program "prestige" when ranking a program? I really like my home program (mid-tier US MD school) because of the location and lifestyle it has to offer but it's definitely not nationally known as prestigious. Do you think there are any obstacles I would encounter coming from a lesser known program? thanks!
In the long run, I do not think residency program prestige matters too much, especially if you end up doing fellowships. The prestige of the fellowship has higher value than that of the residency program, because a more well known fellowship program will provide a broader and in-depth training. However, that said, I'm sure there are more traditionally inclined people out there who are swayed by "big name".
