I think this sort of thing always happens after a survival show ends. I remember when Zerobaseone was formed. People were complaining that none of the “main vocalists” made it into the group (Jay, Seungeon, Hui). And before you mention Taerae and Zhang Hao, I’m not trying to talk about skill (it’s not important in this discussion), but the public perception at the time. For example Zhang Hao’s image was “all rounder who also could sing really well” but was rarely included in disputes about the “top vocalists”. I remember people complaining that ZB1 was lacking in strong vocalists and there were too many visual picks (they’re so pretty so I get it), but now we’re in 2025 and ZB1 is now a group known for having good vocals. So yeah people tend to be dramatic immediately after a survival show’s ending (Close Your Eyes is still an atrocious name though). I didn’t watch all of project 7, but from what I remember about the members and from the clips from this video, most of them seem to be able to hold their own. They’re not outstanding vocalists but can definitely perform parts they’re comfortable with well. I think they’ll be fine as long as the company doesn’t give them songs that are too crazily vocally challenging and instead focus on concepts that showcase the strengths they do have.
Not everyone thinks it but i believe in the idea of having Sungmin as Main Vocalist. Aside that Seo Kyungbae, Jang Yeojun and Jeon Minwook have such beautiful voice i'm sure that with more vocal training they will be able to do anything too. Lastly there are also Seungho and Kenshin that actually have quite great voices too (they actually have it). And i'm excited for sub vocalist Ma Jingxiang too, we actually never got much of vocalist Ma Jingxiang but I'm sure Ma Jingxiang would sing so well too if he gets vocal training. This group is gonna be so good, everyone has to be surprised!
I saw a video of them introducing their group name and theyseem to be hesitant to say close your eyes, feel bad for them having such crappy name Hope they will have redemption
