Bugler55 so there’s contradiction. This statue is historical but we are not going to take care of it because we don’t care about history, only the statement it makes by representing what it does and being where it is. Then, sadly, the statues have to go.
This is disgusting! You can not compare criminals, dope addicts and dealers, gang bangers and basically the worst our country has to offer to honorable war veterans. Whether you agree with what they were fighting for or not.
If the idea of " accountability " of slavery is to be reconciled, why aren't you folks, ever mentioning the approximate 40 MILLION people enslaved worldwide ( including Africa)..current day?.. Is their restitution, not AS IMPORTANT? Or is it all about..uh..hm..lol..🤔 Listen to the song " Man in the Mirror..by Michael Jackson
These monuments are shameful reminders of a past that should never be forgotten. As long as they remain, the best way forward is to contextualize the actions and words of these dead white men from another time. What did they stand for? What did they accomplish? How did they live their lives? What sentiments and values did they express through their writings and speeches? I personally enjoy educational walking tours, and I think local schools should educate their kids about the monuments.
@Kris Karbunkle You really took my comment for a run... My comment was in reference to the interview with the confederate enthusiast. His central argument was that those who joined the confederates were patriots... Thus my reply... Did you actually watch this piece or do you just look for comments that you can take out of context?
never cared: -I never cared if you were “gay” until you started shoving it in my face, and the faces of my children. -I never cared what color you were, until you started blaming my race for your problems. -I never cared about your political affiliation until you started to condemn me for mine. -I never cared where you were born until you wanted to erase my history and blame my ancestors for your current problems. -I never cared if you were well-off or poor, until you said you were discriminated against, when I was promoted because I worked harder. -I never cared if your beliefs were different from mine, until you said my beliefs were wrong. NOW I CARE! My patience and tolerance are gone. I’m not alone in feeling this way, there are millions of us who do......and we have had enough! -Anonymous copy and paste all over the internet
Of course now. Never mind those you care about have been under foot for so long. Now that they are raising to a level where you cant ignore, now you get mad. Stfu.
Unfortunately the call of duty of these soldiers did not come through the country, the president. Like the times we find ourselves in we now in a sense finding ourselves in a role those confederate soldiers found themselves in. We do not believe in the state as it is, we choose to fight against what Donald Trump, Mitch Mcconnell, Paul Ryan, Lindsey Graham, Martha McSally would have us believe the state is.
@Jason Crosby my point is to see a perspective that may help us find a common ground and not invite further discord. This is all I pointed out. You are putting motives behind my words, not me. Communist insurgency explicitly reveals you and your attitude. There's nothing communist about speaking truth to power. Your own logic says the Confederates were and are communist traitors.
Yes, and ever since the statue was removed, all the problems went away and we lived happily ever after….
SCREW 325 YEARS OF POOR ME BS
They can put the statues in museums so they can contextualise them, keep them available but not glorify them.
Agreed.
Agreed.

You do not put up a statue of Hitler in Germany. Bad moral stature=no statue.
Which is why you put up statues of George Floyd instead right?
Who are you comparing Hitler to?
But there is a statue of Genghis Khan in Mongolia. It's a matter of how much people are brainwashed to self-hate.

@Kris Karbunkle Exactly, holocaust, slavery, genocide.. who cares they're dead.
Shameful that Lincoln let his lust for taxes only on the south go as far as it did.
Not racism, colorism
want to tour the south dumb idea
George Floyd's statue should have been anatomically correct according to his videos with Kimberly Brinks.
What’s the difference between Gavrilo Princip and George Floyd?
4:02 The Call of Duty?
Thats right.
Joining an insurrection is now patriotic... Got it.
@Kris Karbunkle Huh?
