It's certainly not as good as the TurboGrafx version, but that in no way prevents Lords of Thunder on the Sega CD from being an unbelievably kick-ass shooter with an impossibly good soundtrack. For the soundtrack, check out ruclips.net/video/9KL1la9UnOw/видео.html
NintendoComplete Well, Star Control is an amazing game(which is surprising since it's unlicensed), & I'm pretty sure once you get the hang of it, you'll enjoy it a WHOLE LOT more than now! In fact, I think it's a hidden gem!
it really depends on your taste really. PC Engine/turbo's soundtrack is like to a live concert (with those shredding guitars) while the Sega CD version is more of an recording studio album. (Or think of it as the difference between album vs lovers leap remix version of Together Forever)
Okay, so I grew up with this version as a kid. I had the Sega Genesis/Sega CD and Snes. I missed NEC's machines and didn't get into them until adulthood. Now, I have a Core Grafx Mini that I got from Amazon Japan. This version of Lords of Thunder looks considerably easier. There's far less enemies on screen at once. This version also has a story line or narrator...the PCE version does not feature the voice. I will say that the music sounds better on this version. The bosses are by far easier than on the PCE version...
Man this version gives a lot more gems. I heard it was easier, but I thought that had more to do with the enemy/bullet counts and invulnerability after getting hit lasting longer.
You can tell the SEGA CD is a more powerful system since the animation and backgrounds are better but the Turbo Grafx version might have slightly better graphics
@ 10:37 alot of slow down when you shoot the bubbles, whereas the tg-16 there is no slow down, interesting. Thunderforce III and IV was super smooth, much better port then that stinkin' thunder spirits, :).
Yet, Thunder Force IV tears into this game...so yeah. I have come to find out the Lord's of Thunder was not a great port at all. The enemy count is lower here than in the PCE version.... You properly surmised that the Sega CD has a 68K processor but it also has more RAM, specialized chipset that is superior in every way, and runs almost double the clock speed as the PCE with a better processor....so bad port. Lastly, the Genesis was about Blast Processing not the Sega CD. Even thought the Blast Processing claim is absolutely true. The Genesis 68K can have direct access to the machines memory. Data can be jammed straight through there at a much higher rate. What I don't know is if the Genesis's co-processor the Zilog Z-80 can do the same thing.
Shamely enough the Sega CD version is a lazy port. They removed some basic features/visual effects and have lightened the challenge. Even the soundtrack took a hit but this is a rather subjective aspect. It's kinda understandable though cuz it was released on a competing platform so they didn't want to make it as good, let alone better, but it could easily have been. The only area where it would be worse in some ways would be on screen colors but various improvements could have been made in terms of resolution (other Sega CD games such as Robo Aleste, Final Fight CD or Earthworm Jim run in higher resolution than that), sound effects (the Sega CD has much better sound capabilities than the TurboGrafx-CD) or cutscenes (from what I can tell the Sega CD has better video support too). But at least they did improve it in a few ways, taking advantage of Sega's console better scrolling capabilities to bring more parallax here and there and they also tweaked the scoring system. So it's still a decent game but it's one of the rare cases where the TurboGrafx original is the way to go. And yeah, it's a great game, probably the best TurboGrafx shoot 'em up.
@@RyuDaBurninator also the turbo's ost seems like a hodgepodge mix of realistic and synthetic imitation of realistic instruments. Sega CD ost version definitely defeats the Turbo.
its a great port of lords of thunder..tho the sound effects seem to be quieter and some things are missing, but added at the same time, like the voice for the shop keep lady
Dammmnnn that soundtrack tho
This soundtrack is incredible!
Ah! My favorite shooter game, back when I played this on my Sega CD! I love the metal rock soundtracks! ^^
Lords of Thunder, sounds like a name for a heavy metal band.
That's pretty appropriate, then :)
Now we just need people wearing those elemental suits of armor so they can perform some awesome heavy metal stuff on live concert.
Ancient One Yes!.... Maybe then Lords of Thunder can do a retake of Kiss Saves Santa :D
Would be soo awesome to see, people would dig it like hotcakes.
The music is awesome!
Top 5 games on Sega CD period. And that soundtrack O.M.G.

NintendoComplete In speaking of shooters, & Sega consoles, STAR CONTROOOOOOOLLLLLL!!!!!!
Extremewrecker2000 The willer. I dunno about that one. I've always found it to be more trouble than it's worth

What's different from the TurboGrafx 16 version? I only played that version, and this looks how I remember it.
@@bubbythebear6891 supposedly they nerfed the difficulty for the SEGA version
A fantasy themed game with a heavy metal soundtrack.
FUCK YEAH!!!!!!
4:30 Rainbow - Gates of Babylon
I genuinely can't understand how it is so many say the PC Engine version sounds better than this. This is so much better in that regard.
I fucking agree man

Lords of thunder is ABSOLUTELY AWESOME and STUNNINGLY AMAZING
Lords of Thunder looks fun!
This game needs a remake or a sequel so bad and Hudson I've always been known for some very awesome video game music
I finally beat this today. Watching this vid, I realized that post-hit invincibility plus meleeing was very powerful.
I can feel in soundtracks malmsteen style.

I hope this comes for the Mini Sega CD
Just found this at an estate sale in Alabama for $65

un gran juego
They, ah, "enhanced" the shopkeeper. Was that supposed to make up for the color loss?
This version is a hell of a lot easier compared to the Turbo Grafx version.
Hell of lot better too, in my opinion. Music is so much more enjoyable.
@@ps1master-class150 I'm partial to the Turbo version myself.
The best

Ultra Snazzy this one! I wonder if you did the original TurboDuo/PC Engine version of it, BTW?
I did, it's in the card links.
