What I loved about this video is that it was all about Luca! I’m a middle sister and I often felt invisible growing up. My first born sister was great at everything she did. My younger sister was the sweet (baby), adorable one. My way to be seen and heard was to be louder, funnier, and sadly, to be challenging at times But my family role was peacemaker. Luca has awesome form and style and is a very talented skier. It’s nice to see him being highlighted. Great parenting, good on you!

I can see ( from outside) that Luca is the bravest of the three. Shy and quiet but sweet and heartfelt . He reminds me so much of my husband. You can see Luca listening to you all talk and processing it. I see him as a deep thinker. Agust is so confident and well poised, caring and strong. Aria is sweet, funny, adorable and brave, very independent. I can see how the oldest and youngest are easier to “descipher”. But if Luca is anything like my husband, I can tell you the extra work to know him is worth the patience and alone talks under the stars ( i think he would appreciate). We both love watching you and your family, and you all give us comfort and hope in challenging times for us. Thank you all so much!!!

"Showing up for them in the best way you know how." That is what it's all about☺️ we can all only wish that someone will be that person for us.
It's great to see Luca having special time with you. These vlogs are so inspiring, I find myself getting emotional sometimes. Maybe because of all the craziness going on in our world today. I love that you have those moments of awareness and reflection on your parenting skills of what's working to best help each child thrive. 💕☺️

Amazing parenting skill not to forget to focus on each of your child. Different child, different approaching and different parenting skill, not ignore. I am also 2nd/middle child. I was left quite often and was told it’s because my personality. But always wanted attention. So glad/happy to see Luca only video here. Luca will remember and appreciate when he’s older!

I like how he rides smooth, you can already notice he will be a skier with style.
he already has some very good movements and postures considering the terrain.
He is at his best when riding between the trees. congrats to him 🙌

I am 59, have taught my 3 boys and taught skiing for 10 years. I now work Mountain Safety and Lifts. My wife is our ski school director and on the Eastern Advanced Childrens Educators Team and a PSIA Examiner, and has been with the mountain over 30 years. My oldest is a freestyle instructor, my middle is ski patrol and my youngest is an instructor as well. I have exposure to very talented instructors and many parents. You sir, are amazing, your children too. I wish I could bottle up and share with all skiing parents the ways you help your children thrive and be their very best. You have given them the tools at such a young age to succeed and live their very best lives. Never ever under estimate how amazing a teacher and father you are. I have seen many, you are top one percent. Bravo.

I’m a middle kid myself, second of 4, and I would also resist quite a bit. I clearly did not “feel” activities the same way my siblings would, and just didn’t function the same way! My mom understood that and would approach things a little different so that it’d suit me and be fun “my way” sometimes :) that’s all it took really

This is the definition of great parenting right here. Spending time with them, watching them thrive and having so much fun. While I never got that dad to spend time with me, I made a vow to myself that when I have kids, to raise them in a way where they can thrive to their fullest potential!

  • @DHen-ye2iv

Its great that you don’t easily give in to his resistance. What a smooth skier he is, having fun. Sometimes children resist not because they don’t want to go but they secretly enjoy the prodding and gentle pleading. It makes them feel special. You are right, parents know their own children best and they are all unique.

LUCA!! My middle child twin! I understand how he feels about not always wanting to go and do. Dad let me tell you, you are doing exactly right about pulling him out to do things. Because once he does get out he is amazing. Just watching him go down that pocket made me gasp and hold my breath. You must be very proud that he did that run. I heard the pleasure in his voice of being a challenge for YOU to keep up with him. That just made my heart sing!! Your doing good Dad!
    GO LUCA! GO!!! 😁

Luca really has a lot of good technique for a little kid. In the trees you can really see how he controls his speed, and turns his upper body in the direction he wants to go. His movements are really crisp and snappy in the turns. I would bet that he would do well on a downhill slalom course.

  • @katescrimgeour3884

I know nothing about skiing and don't know how to ski, but it was really pleasing to watch Luca at about minute 5:30 when he was coming down the Morning Glory section - he was so smooth. And as for parenting - some kids will always need a nudge and I think he will be comfortable resisting when he really doesn't want to because you are warm, encouraging and respectful to him. Your kids are a credit to you.

Thanks for not forcing him to ski, when I had been skiing for 16 years ever since I could walk I got tired of it. But my parents always forced me to go, so I started to hate skiing. Eventually I was able to stop and so for a few years I didn’t go at all, but this season I’m hooked on skiing and go every single day.

So awesome! I’m up at killington VT with my 6yr old. This is his 6th time skiing and he already rides blue squares all day and some black diamonds!! He’s a ripper in the moguls and loves it. My other two boys tried and had no focus. Where this one is a sponge and takes everything I explain and applies it. It’s such a rewarding proud moment to see them apply the knowledge and shine. We just had a 24” storm and rode powder all day and so many people were commenting on this tiny 39” boy shredding the black diamond moguls. I have the best time with my little guy and can’t wait until he gets a few more seasons under his belt and really turns on the gas pedal. Riding has become the greatest bonding experience for us and I would t trade it for the world. Awesome video and I can’t wait to show him your sons techniques and have him see a boy his age ripping, I’m sure he will use the details he picks up from watching. 🤟

We thought our youngest was just a homebody, but we figured out that it was all the prep (loading up gear, changing clothes, etc.) that was the issue not the activity.
We changed some things we were doing, now it’s a bit better and she’s more excited to go.

@@ThatMountainLife my husband and I had a good giggle about what these little balls of energy decide is just too much effort. Going for a trail bike ride is good times. Changing clothes for said ride, too much effort. 😂.
We started prepacking and loading the car early and setting out all clothes needed in one place.
The clothes was our biggest struggle. So instead of dressing in two different places (her room and then mud room for outer layers) we moved it all to one place and set everything out ready to dress ahead of time. It seems to have helped a bit.

Even for me as an adult, that can be what can keeps me home and not going out. After a mountain bike outing, I prep for the next ride. So when the mood hits, I can just grab my water, cycling backpack, helmet and out the door. No excuses.

I get the sense that it's a chemistry thing. You bond easier with the kids who are more like you are.
I'm a bit more like Luca, and so is my kid, so we have extraordinary good connection and communication, even now when they are 17.
Where as the other parent is more impulsive and outgoing and "wild" that doesn't make them a worse parent at all, but it does mean that some things are harder for them, in the parenting department.

❤️ more great adventures. Ok, as the absolute middle child of seven kids myself with a little bit of psych, Family Systems Theory with the belief that there IS credence in birth order theory, I’m convinced middle kids can be very different. If one examines the order of the middle child with three kids, you likely find the first child because they are first is a parent’s first experience with a new adventure involving a child. Adventurous parents likely encourage that in the first kid. Then the middle child is confronted with a sibling who knows the ropes. The second child may appear less ‘adventurous’ kind of allowing the first child to guide and sometimes carry the show, yet all the while asserting his/her own brand independence to set himself apart. As the third comes along, the middle child transitions from youngest to now floating between the baby and oldest. I believe at this point the middle can become one who marches to a very different drum. After all- the oldest has the most experience as a kid in the family and the baby is- well- the baby. Middles often will be what I like to call the pillar (center balance in a classic old scale) to the three siblings. The middle will often act as a rigger to the children ahead and behind..much like the old school classic balance for weighing things!
Thanks for letting me prattle on…I love Family Systems and Birth Order Theories!!! Love y’all! ❤️

Fun times! I'm not sure he hit the tree - looks like he did not. But I am sure that the sentence in your narrative " ... just Luca and I!" should be corrected to " ... just Luca and me!"
To ALWAYS get the pronoun correct, simply say the sentence to yourself WITHOUT the other noun (Luca, in this case). Then your ear will tell you the correct pronoun. Proper use of pronouns is becoming a lost art of good grammar.
