I’m happy to read through all these stories of moms who are so done with breastfeeding their toddler. I stopped breastfeeding at 15 months and honestly it’s been more emotionally painful than physically. I kept going back and forth about whether or not I made the right decision and feeling guilty. But now I’m also remembering just how gruelling and frustrating it can feel, and I’m sure stopping when she turns two would be even harder.

Yep. My son will be 3 next month. Still co sleep. Still breast feed at least 3 times for a few minutes a night and on demand all day. I’m a human binky/sippy cup. I’ve loved most every min of it, except for being used as human teething ring at about 6-9 months old. I have to wean him due to my health and need to start medication:( Neither of us are going to love this process.
I’m on day 4!!! Cold turkey is the way to go. Every time I try to gradually do it it’s like they breastfeed more lol . Second time doing cold turkey. The last time I was pregnant so I didn’t become engorged but this time only her favorite boobie is engorged. I feel off balanced with one big boobie but my 14 month old is taking it well. I’ve just been rocking her to sleep or she just falls asleep now. Didn’t think I’d be able to do it without the hubs but just letting everyone know it’s possible.
Omg this is me right now weaning my almost 3 year old and he had a hard time but he's taking it very well now. I'm on day 4, and have one huge boobie and one little one. I get so tempted to pump because I look crazy lol
I've just ordered some cabbage and im going to see how this plays out. Hopefully the worst should be past before I start my first days work on the 16th
I'm on day 2 and omgggg! whole day was fine! but now at night they are huge and feels so bad.. but I'll keep going just pumped 5 minutes every breast because the tension was so bad! little girl is 9 weeks old but because she didn't get enough out of my breast needed to quit giving it to her.. but this is the best way! thanks for the video it helps me a lot!
I’m on day two. I’m still engorged so I pray it eases up. My 14 month old isn’t doing too bad with no breastfeeding. I just distract her with food and playing with her. How long did the whole process take for you mamas?
Wilber Jackie after 4 days she was completely done. My milk dried up in 10 days. Thank you for checking in ❤️. I did do a little of express milk in the shower which helped but I didn’t do it until I was empty. I just did it until I was comfortable.
Wilber Jackie You baby will do fine. It’s easier when your not around as well. That’s a way to jump start this. My biggest tip for you will be to express a little when you need too. Don’t torture yourself by being engorged. I always express a little twice a day. 3 squeeze per boob. I did it in the morning and at night so you can sleep through the night. Keep me updated. You got this mama! If need be, express mid day as well in the beginning. This will tell your baby that your baby doesn’t need so much milk. Use cold compress as well. My daughter woke up during the night. Have snacks close by and a cup of water. When my daughter reached down my shirt, I would say ouch!
I found this video after getting bit harder than I ever have before by my 17 month old(he drew blood and wouldn’t let go) I’m literally crying and never want to breastfeed again 😭
Im engorged right now hard as rocks like double ds , am i going to be okay?? or should i go to hospital, i feel fine but they just hurt a bit cause of fullness
From what I am experiencing now, the best way to stop breastfeeding is reducing the number of times you breast feed. I started from five times a day to two times a day to one times a day. Now I am breast feeding once in two days and the breast milk has really reduced without any pain. Very soon there will be no more milk. I think that is the best way instead of leaving milk in the breast to dry up drastically on its own because it may pose a risk
Question, while cutting her off other than sleeping in a separate room did you interact with her at all? Or did you just stay away from her completely.
Vee Rdz ofcourse. I was with her everyday. I just slept in a different room as that’s when she fed the most and would prob manage to get milk when I was sleeping which would delete the purpose x
Everyone says to express a 'small amount' of milk to relieve the engorgement. How much is a small amount? Did you express that small amount (like an ounce) everyday?
Kish Williams so basically I just relieved enough in the shower so it wasn’t agony but it was still uncomfortable. Honestly I didn’t express it into a bottle so I don’t know how much in ounces x
Thank you Thank You!! I’ve been looking everywhere for advice 😂 my baby is 19 months and I’m going on a trip in a few weeks.. I stopped yesterday and wanted to know an idea of what to expect
I've been breastfeeding for almost 4 years straight. This will be day 2 of cold turkey, and it is soooo painful! Seems like day 2 and 3 are the worst of it. Going to buy some cabbage today! Haha
I’m on day 11 stopping cold turkey and I’m STILL engorged! When will it end?! One side is worse than the other and I’m so sore and lumpy! I just want to hand express to relieve it but I know then I’ll be back to square one! 😢 I’ve even been taking sage tablets but yet I’m still engorged
@sarah ritchens Sarah did you boob ever get better? I’m wondering how long I should go on with an engorged boob before I need to go to the dr or start back to square one with pumping. Thank you!
Currently in the process of stopping cold turkey. I also stopped in the AM 🙃 his nap time was difficult as he always nurses to fall asleep. & right now I’m just trying to distract him with his favorite movie. Still have to see how the whole night goes. Day 1 😭🥹
I’m day 3 in & my 15 month old son is surprisingly doing better than I’d thought. I did buy almond milk vanilla flavored to kind of imitate my milk . He took to it
@@star_fruitti it's going good. I'm officially done breastfeeding. She attempted to go for my tatas on several occasions but she learned quick. You can handle this mom! I was engorged for about 3 days but afterwards ur went away. A few days later I started leaking but after about 2 and a half weeks I was fully dry. I promise you can handle it !
Hey all the way from south africa. Thank you so much for this video. Iv been trying to find some sort of comfort by listening to other moms experiances and this video definitely helped especially with what to expect during the cold turkey weaning process as theres almost nothing on the internet about how to do this..im currently on day 2 of weaning and its sooooo intense.. sounds like I just gotta ride it out a few days more..thanks again.. wish me luck xoxo
Amirah Khan hey Amirah, thanks so much it means a lot to hear positive feedback! You can do it - your baby will forgot about b feeding in no time & the intensity will also die down. Xxx
Also from South Africa. I'm on Day 2 of going cold turkey and my breasts are so engorged! Gonna get me some cabbage tomorrow! Breastfed my twins for 29 months! And so relieved to be finished. Hubby is my hero! He is getting up for them all through the night and settling them back to sleep. I'm getting some proper sleep for the first time in years!
@@VanessaKanbi hey hope u well. Are u supposed to express the milk out after taking the tablet for stopping milk production. Because my breasts feel so heavy. So are you supposed to leave it that way or express
I’m on my first day of weaning my 14 month old, and I just feel so guilty because we cosleep as well, I have the cabbage leaves in and just wanted to know did the smell out off your daughter in anyway? Like does that help them not want to feed? Great video❤️👌🏼
We are on day 2 of cold turkey. Cabbage leaves help but omgosh the engorgement is SO painful. 😭 Can we just say how gross cabbage leaves smell? My husband is repulsed by it. 😅 I don’t blame him lol!
I’m on day 2 and it’s hard. My boobs are engorged and I’m struggling to turn right or left and sleep on my side. The headaches are real too 😳! My daughter is 9 months going 10. I’ve tried to gradually wean her down but like one other mom said, it made her feeding worse. She is has been feeding min 5 x times at night 😢.I wake up like a zombie 🧟♀️ trying to crush it at work and manage my household. Emotionally it’s a struggle because she is so young still and honestly acting like a junky at night when rolling about to find her comfort whist my husband the obstacle between her and me to discourage her from coming to me and crying on my boob to drink. I just want her to eat better because she favouring the boob over solids. Another reason for going cold turkey is that soon I’ll have to go back to the office regularly and I can’t have her refuse eating until I’ve returned ( yes she has done that in the past ☹️). She is my last and I hate to see her like this but I have no choice it’s what’s best for her. Good luck to all you moms, it’s not easy.
My son will be 11 months when I have to stop nursing due to shoulder surgery. I have freezer stash but I'm so scared about engorgement while in a sling
My daughter is 14 months and I’m ready to stop but it’s really hard because she’s so emotional! She only feeds for 2-3 minutes and not as often as she used to so it’s so easy to convince myself to carry on but it’s time now
The Montz Adventures I’m in the same boat except I had to get my left breast surgically drained and I’m not able to pump or feed in that breast so I’m on day 4 without doing anything to the breast and I’m scared cuz idk what will happen if I leave the milk inside, I had an abscess on my clogged duct and I’m afraid the infection is gonna come back or get worse! Can you leave milk in your breast?
I'm want to start cold turkey but wondering how long you pumped for and for how many times a day. So like first day it was 5 minutes but how many times? Then you dropped down to 2 minutes the next day and how many times a day? Did you drop down again after that? I really want to avoid mastitis but tried the cut down gradually but son isnt having any of it
I’m going away in three months and my 8 month old is very Stubborn!! Would not take bottle at all.. I’ve tried using a nipple shield to trick him into getting used of that plastic-y feeling but no he would not. Help!!!
Ruby Suzie my daughter wouldn’t really take the bottle/ milk so she just never had milk / the bottle again when I stopped breastfeeding although this was later at 14 months. I would suggest trying a normal cup and miss out the bottle stage. Do you give water? Maybe in the same cup ? X
Vanessa Kanbi Hi! I just saw your comment. I am going to do this cold turkey weaning with my DD who does not take milk with bottle, cup or sippy cup (but drink juice and water)So anxious to start this process, afraid that my baby will lose a lot of weight. Did your LO manage to drink milk and eat more solid food post breastfeeding? My LO is not eating much solid maybe because she still nurses multiple times a day and night.
2022 mom here , going into my 4th day and it’s extremely hard , the pain to to cold turkey I can handle but having to remove Breastmilk from my 15month old instantly is sooo hard. I’m pregnant with my second baby and have HG which is why I was force to stop breastfeeding from one day to another 😩 and my baby doesn’t like any other milk this is endless of cryings 😭 anyone went thru this ?
did you experience chills and fever when you cold Turkey? I am a new mom and I only breastfed up til day 4 after birth. day 4 was when i noticed the milk becoming more watery. after breastfeeding on day 4, I woke up 2 hours later with really bad chills and fever. I cold Turkey after day 4 and have been experiencing the bad chills and fever the following night (24 hours later) and then 12 hours later...
This is my 2nd baby and what has worked and is working for me for my 2nd baby is i applied a paste of turmeric powder and water on my boobs,it works wonders, the baby stops wanting it on his own,.
After breastfeeding for 18 months I've not breastfed since 5 am on 21 May. Five days and one boob is so engorged and unhappy the other is chill. One side of my sirt is soaking because of the not chill side.
so our daughter, who's name is also Maya, is turning two in literally 4 days and we are on Day 2 of this cold turkey thing. Sheesh this process is hard hey, last night walking up and down with her for hours with no chance of her falling asleep was a battle. For the dads out there what can we do while we're in the ring during this process? Any suggestions to keep her tears (my babies tears) at bay? Super random seeing this video.. but thanks its good to know we're not alone.
Matthew Greentree hey! Ah another Mya/Maya that’s so nice. Yes it’s difficult for a week then it’s over! My hubby just tried rocking her etc but I found that I made it worse if I was there cos she could smell the milk so I stayed out of the room at night. Hope it goes okay!

How did your baby handle it after this video did it get better for her? I hope she didn’t struggle to much after?
❤️❤️❤️
I'm on day 2 and omgggg! whole day was fine! but now at night they are huge and feels so bad.. but I'll keep going just pumped 5 minutes every breast because the tension was so bad! little girl is 9 weeks old but because she didn't get enough out of my breast needed to quit giving it to her.. but this is the best way! thanks for the video it helps me a lot!
the video helped alot! Did you self pump every day up until you just stopped producing or just that one day ?
Covina Munoz hey, I did less day by day only about 2 mins after day 1 because I didn’t want it to encourage more milk x
Did you pump a little everyday??? I started yesterday and woke up this morning and boob are so full it’s painful? Many thanks and love this video
I found this video after getting bit harder than I ever have before by my 17 month old(he drew blood and wouldn’t let go)
I’m literally crying and never want to breastfeed again 😭
Did you pump at all or just cold turkey like you said? Cause im on my second day without pumping and they are swoll
mother_ mariah I did some hand pumping in the shower not a lot
Im engorged right now hard as rocks like double ds , am i going to be okay?? or should i go to hospital, i feel fine but they just hurt a bit cause of fullness
How are you now? My breasts are always engorged I’m nervous to stop!
Hi..can I ask how did the baby respond to reduced feeds?
Unfortunately I’m a single mum 😭 wish I could have a partner to help
Same ):
Same here girl 😭
Same ... I'm going THROUGH IT ... 13 months... this has to stop
Thank you so much for this video! Currently on day 3 and it’s sooooo uncomfortable! But this gives me hope.
Does peppermint tea help with reducing milk supply?
Question, while cutting her off other than sleeping in a separate room did you interact with her at all? Or did you just stay away from her completely.
Vee Rdz ofcourse. I was with her everyday. I just slept in a different room as that’s when she fed the most and would prob manage to get milk when I was sleeping which would delete the purpose x
My son is almost 2 and I'm still breastfeeding. I want to stop. And I'm laying here with mastitis for the second time, I'm miserable
2020 mother and I swore my baby would sleep in his bed and he has never slept in that thing 😩😭
How much can I actually express to relieve before I actually sabotage my efforts??
Giiirl u made me laugh because I'm sooo ready to STOP lol and I'm a little excited but also sad. Thank you so much for your video XOXO
I love your accent and you are so beautiful
cathgerad thank you!
Great info, the midwives help you to breast feed, but no support out there to stop, great video thankyou ❤️
Thank you!
Please what did you do cause I'm on day 7 and Im the exact same way you were
Do you have to pump? Or do you just stop breastfeeding?
I explain in the video but I hand pumped a little in the shower to ease the situation
I followed the same process as you and it went so well! Thank you for this video! And my experience with engorgement and everything was so so similar
What would you feed her through out the day? And what kind of milk would she drink?
Would love to know because my 13 month old is refusing whole milk. And I HAVE to quit
Currently in the process of stopping cold turkey. I also stopped in the AM 🙃 his nap time was difficult as he always nurses to fall asleep. & right now I’m just trying to distract him with his favorite movie. Still have to see how the whole night goes. Day 1 😭🥹
Thank you fo r'this video currently trying the and needed some more insight such a scary process
I’m day 3 in & my 15 month old son is surprisingly doing better than I’d thought. I did buy almond milk vanilla flavored to kind of imitate my milk . He took to it
My daughter is 16 months and today I'm planning to stop breastfeeding cold turkey. WISH ME LUCK 🤞🏾😭😭
How’s it going? I want to quit with my 17month old. He’s bitten my tatas for the LAST TIME, I’m so done 😭💔
@@melenatedleann thank you! That gives me lots of hope 😊
Xxx
Amirah Khan South Africa here too! Hey girl :)
This was so helpful thank you so much for sharing your experience!!
Hi im just wondering how long the engorgement last?
Please post an update - was the quitting at 15 months successful?
Thank you dear for the encouragement. I am on day 1 of weaning my 18months daughter
Hey Leah, I’m glad that my video has reached you! You can do it. Hope it goes ok xx
My son will be 11 months when I have to stop nursing due to shoulder surgery. I have freezer stash but I'm so scared about engorgement while in a sling
My daughter is 14 months and I’m ready to stop but it’s really hard because she’s so emotional! She only feeds for 2-3 minutes and not as often as she used to so it’s so easy to convince myself to carry on but it’s time now
My baby is 9 months and I'm ready to stop breastfeeding what should i do?
Did you stop at 9 months? How did it go?
Just wondering if you know if I can do cold turkey after I got mastitis I’m exclusive pumping but idk if I can just stop 🤔
I am on my third day now.. this is so painful couldn’t sleep all night 😭
How did it go, my baby is picky with milk also and it’s hard because I do stay at home with him
What formula do you use?
Motherly Essence I actually went straight to giving her no milk. She wasn’t interested in formula.
did you experience chills and fever when you cold Turkey? I am a new mom and I only breastfed up til day 4 after birth. day 4 was when i noticed the milk becoming more watery. after breastfeeding on day 4, I woke up 2 hours later with really bad chills and fever. I cold Turkey after day 4 and have been experiencing the bad chills and fever the following night (24 hours later) and then 12 hours later...
Oh no, why did you only breastfeed for 3 days ? That's sad.
Restricting your water intake severely for a day or two will stop the milk. That will remove your physical discomfort at least.
This true ?
This is my 2nd baby and what has worked and is working for me for my 2nd baby is i applied a paste of turmeric powder and water on my boobs,it works wonders, the baby stops wanting it on his own,.
Am in day 8 please how long will it take for breast milk to dry
Love your accent! ❤️
It’s been almost 3 weeks and my breast are still engorged and leaking 😩 I’m in pain I’m so jealous
CARELIA16 when did it get better for you? I’m on day 11 and still engorged 😢
After breastfeeding for 18 months I've not breastfed since 5 am on 21 May. Five days and one boob is so engorged and unhappy the other is chill. One side of my sirt is soaking because of the not chill side.
A week and a half.....
That's a long time when you're in pain 😩😢
Thank you for this I felt much better God bless❤️
so our daughter, who's name is also Maya, is turning two in literally 4 days and we are on Day 2 of this cold turkey thing.
@@VanessaKanbi Sheesh quick response, hoping and praying this process is over sooner than later. =-O
Good to see you back
C20 thank you!! It’s good to be back! X
Glad you’re back! Was wondering if you were okay😊
pelagia chitehwe I’m glad to be back! I caught a bug at the end of the year and then went to Ghana 🇬🇭 I will be uploading the Ghana vlogs soon as well. Thanks for watching xx
What are the normal things to happen when weening
Day #2 of stopping cold turkey! Thanks for the video! I will be making a video of my experience as well! ❤️
Jessica Hernandez how did it go? I need some tips for my daughter
Wilber Jackie I did it about a month ago. After day 3 it gets easier ! It’s hard but she has completely forgotten about it now
What age was your daughter when you began cold turkey? Mine is 9 months .
Going cold turkey today *fingercrossed
Thank you for this video!
Loved this video. Thanks for the tips. I'm on day 3 with my 18 month old. And my boobs are in pain. I hope they feel better in a week. Can't wait for my milk to dry up
I know this is an old comment. But how many days did it take for your to dry up.
@@BakerneshaTV it took over a week less then two weeks and it was so painful
@@adrinacande1993 I’m on day 2 😩 and this pain is wild on top of trying to distract my LO
@@BakerneshaTV I know I know but you know what works the best thing ever, buy some cabbage make sure you put it in the fridge and it’s going to save your life!!!! It soothes the boobies. It works amazing. No one ever does it.
@@BakerneshaTV you will get thru this, I know it’s hard. I stopped breastfeeding my first born when he was 18 months and I was 4 months pregnant and then I took that 5 month break and I’m breastfeeding my 2 year old. So I pretty much have been breastfeeding since my first born lmao and it’s hard to take him off it. Haha
Im prepping to do this... Im on my own so dreading it 😣
Nile and Moon Heyy!! Have you thought of a doula if your worried about being alone ? You will have a midwife there if you will be in a hospital. You can do it 😘
@@VanessaKanbi hey, i unfortunately couldnt afford a doula i dont think. I need to just be strong. I'll go half a day then give in because its easier 😆 my lo is 15months now so i just feel ready.
I'm on day two of weaning my two year old and it's so painful. I don't want anything to touch me
🤣🤣🤣🤣 my 2 year old came running and went straight for my boobs. I felt heaven, I was sure I was going to die
Thanks!
Thanks so much!
Omg I'm so lost my daughter is almost 15 month old and I dont know what to do, I need to take my medication,I have tried everything and it's not working:'(
Cold cabbage in your bra and tight sports bra and im sooo srry for your lost
Day 1 ... it’s a shit show.
Day 1 for me wish me luck
You’re sooooo pretty ❤️
What are you feeding your baby instead of the breast milk ? My lo is currently 13/14 months and literally doesn’t like much solids or even drinking from a sippy cup for water or anything..Just breast breast breast
Naxinn Soto I have the same issue sighs
This was my problem I’m now on day 3 of cold turkey however my daughter has finally took the bottle (of milk) she would always refuse and also cry very hard when I offered it to her but during this process I didn’t give in ,I just kept holding the bottle out to her singing a song an she reached out for it ,now she’s drinking warm milk in a bottle she’s still crying everytime but he eventually reaches out for it
😩😩😩
Currently watching this in 2020 cause I’m going through this now. My son is 16 months and doesn’t seem to be slowing down on the milk thing. So I was like let’s go cold turkey. Now I’m dying! The girls hurt so much!! ☹️
Lissa2Natural how’s it going for you? My boy is 15 months and he isn’t having it. It’s only day 1 but I’m not sure how we’re gonna get through the night! 🥴😓
Well I did the tape thing and that seemed to scare him off. He was still asking for it a lot the first two days. now he might ask and I’ll just tell him no and offer him water or see if he wants a snack. Today makes day 6. I did cabbage and slowly released when the engorgement was unbearable. They’re almost back to normal. Emotionally I cried a lot the first few days cause it just broke my heart having to tell him no and i almost gave in but just stick with it soon he won’t even remember
I have bandaids on mine, he just cries and throws a fit (kicking and screaming). He doesn’t want water or almond milk or a snack 😭😭😭 I’m gonna see how it goes tonight because he’s used to nursing himself to sleep. I really hope tomorrow is better.
Hi venessa!
How are you
Thats great video

Vanessa Kanbi 👍😉 Im fine.
I have been studying 😁 and watching you 🙋♂️🙋♂️🙋♂️
I’m doing my turkey and omg 😲
I’m expecting there’s something here to help 😓
I started 2 days ago after 26 months of nursing and my breast are engorged but this too shall pass...
Sending you strength!
I'm in day 3, yesterday I started putting Vicks on them or this lucky legs lotion. I had leftover from when I was pregnant.
April B did it help? Xx
@@VanessaKanbi yes, they feel much better when I do that.

Went cold turkey yesterday and my breasts hurt soo bad
day two,,, so painful.. how are you so far
@@washukabeatrice day 8 now milk has dried up. And I used band aids to make him stop. And cabbage leaves are a life saver!
@@mogaliz2185 great to hear this.. It motivates me a lot. On day 4 today... Sore and heavy.
