- It always bothered me having a scripted, unwinnable fight against Saturos and Menardi. Purely to advance the story in Golden Sun. Let's change that by actually beating them. Sort of...

I'm not kidding. It actually annoyed me the first time playing Golden Sun. Losing the first meaning battle to 'Mystery Man' & 'Mystery Woman' in a matter of seconds. Yes, it is a prologue to set up the current story of Golden Sun, but I don't like losing battles this way in RPG's.
Under normal circumstances, Isaac and Garet are stuck on level 1, no Djinni to summon, and minimal weaponary/armour. Let's change that by cheating!
Both Isaac and Garet are boosted up to level 99, given all their Venus/Mars Djinni, plus the suitable Mars Psynergy resistant armoury to counter Saturos' Fireball/Eruption spamming. This really is necessary, as your main stats won't be strong enough to last it out.
The main concern in this battle - and any Menardi battle - is her 'Death Size' attack. It annoyingly has a random chance of instantly downing a party member. Hence why my attacks are focussed on her, until she is disposed of.
No Psynergy spells were hacked in, so I rely on Isaac's Gaia Blade equipped with the Warrior's Helm and Hyper Boots to spam unleashes. They aren't really needed anyway, as resisting Psynergy attacks is more important to survive.
As funny as it would be to summon spam them into oblivion, it really is little point. Saturos and Menardi have identical HP and PP to their end game battle, but weak attack, defence and agility. It's better to use the Djinni stat boost in conjunction with Golden Sun's more powerful weapons to wear them down methodically.
And your reward for defeating them is...nothing, because your not supposed to. Neither of them give of any EXP, as it's not intended for you to win, and the normal cutscene plays out as normal. Cheaters never prosper, eh!

today is opposite day: losing a fight means winning ๐
8 & 16bit graphics/music bring peace & joy to my soul
It's a nice looking game for sure. Shame its underrated soundtrack came through the awful GBA soundchip.
YOOOO

i always hate those scripted defeats. still pretty kool. gratz
It's really threw me off on my first play. Luckily it's pretty easy to level up and defeat them legit later on.
@@RetroVisionist i'll be honest i don't think i got this far in game. but I'm really tempted to try find my copy dust it off and start playing it
It's definitely worth playing again. How far did you get?
Have not touch a game boy advance in a longggg time good times.
Golden Sun is a classic for sure, but really needs a link up with its sequel to get the most out of them.
