the guy had an alibi. but the police sketch matches that guy so closely it's crazy.
what can you do though? alibi + corroborating witness is enough. without a murder weapon or a witness placing you at or near the scene, you're scot-free. they didn't have DNA evidence back then.

The case against him was absurd. It was based on some analysis of blood splatter and ignored a ton of very basic contrary evidence (like witnesses who saw the killer leaving the scene & said he clearly wasn't Nils) as well as basic common sense. It was as though the charges were brought by a bunch of young "CSI" TV fans who otherwise had no comprehension of police investigation.

I'll fix it up a bit, living in the UK this became wide spread news in 2007, so they didn't leave their hotel room door open, they left the room to the bedroom where the kids were sleeping slightly open, I think it was so if when they were checking on the kids they could peep in and see if they were ok without waking them up, Jane Tanner saw the guy carrying the kid across a street not a hallway when she was checking on her own kids, it is believed the guy apparently climbed through a window to get Maddie, all that being said you are 100% right you never ever leave your kids in a hotel room in a foreign country alone, also fun fact the parents never got anything for child neglect they are actually still living off the fame from this and tax payers money is still funding the search all these years later.

As a former Database Engineer for the federal government as well as in industry, too many people assume that databases are maintained, up to date, and contain no errors or missing entries -- which is the exact OPPOSITE of the reality. All databases in vast majority of businesses are a total mess and poorly maintained, and this is even more so in government. Just because there is no entry for Joanna Lopez in some random police database doesn't mean it doesn't, never, or shouldn't exist.

Everyone got a good laugh out of it because we had a member of the public who kept sending letters demanding that The Loch Ness Monster be listed as an "endangered species." He called himself "The Keeper of the Loch" and would send letters every few months chastising the government for not protecting Nessie. 😂😂

The sketch is a composite of various descriptions the prime suspect, Nils Gustafsson, gave while under hypnosis. It's basically a nebulous "bogeyman"-looking character Gustafsson came up with in order to throw the police off. The guy at the funeral is just some random Finnish guy with sharp features who's making an odd face, possibly due to crowd pressure, excitement, chewing something or whatever. It doesn't really matter if he resembles the sketch, since the character in the sketch probably never existed in the first place!

16:03 That sketch has become a weird Mandela Effect on Latin-America. On Mexico, there was a space on a TV channel used to present pictures and descriptions of missing people.
One that became infamous was a girl called "Selene Delgado" due to how "odd" looked the picture.
People started ti say that it was a fake picture due to the Uncanny Valley and used pictures like those to compare...
And somehow! People started to say that the sketch was the picture of Selene Delgado.

Canal Cinco would usually update pictures with more "up to date sketches/ pictures" of missing people. That sketch in particular (as well as the normal looking photograph of her) were more than likely given to the network as a prank. It's quite possible Selene delgado lopez isn't a real person, or at least not the same woman in the normal looking photograph.

You dont leave kids alone by themselves. If they had no other option, at best they couldve stayed in, and at worst they couldve locked the door. Its like they were asking for it. Also he filled a well on his property with concrete after the Bodom murders. So even though Assman is SPOT ON with the sketch, I personally fully believe it was the kiosk owner. Also it's insanely embarrassing how the finnish police tried to pin it all on the lone survivor, and how the media at the time ran with it so hard that even to this day some people believe he was guilty

I love how your videos introduce me to new stories I haven’t heard of before in other channels that just cover the same repetitive shit 🙏

Aahhhh yes!! The mystery of the woman who never existed finally came back! 🔥🔥 I was hoping for a re upload as I missed the chance to watch that video several months ago. It’s funny cause I was laying in bed sick at night when I saw the thumbnail and the creepy picture and I was like “oh cool Chilling Scares I’ll watch it later.” And then it disappeared in the morning and I thought it was a dream or something which made it all the more creepy. 😂😂
