I think Middle Eastern women are gorgeous. Every time I saw a woman wearing her hijab I thought, "she's so beautiful." You are so beautiful and talented Mona. I am so thankful that I found your music. I want to see more nonwestern people and cultures gain greater representation. We are all stronger when we're united. It's irritating when people, like Trump, would rather emphasize our differences and profit off of dividing us rather than celebrate what connects us as human beings.
It's pretty clear that she's not talking only about North Africans from the lyrics and from the fact that she's Middle Eastern (Palestinian I think???). She's refering to any non-Western people that are called "barbaric" by racist people. That's why the title is not "B*rber" (which is an insult towards North African people).
abd-er-RAH-man Yes it's an insult to North Africans. The word "barbar" itself has it's origins from Ancient Greece. Ancient Greeks used to call pretty much anyone not Greek "barbar" but then the word turned to mean "uncivilized/wild", which racist uses for many groups of people/cultures that are not Western. I'm not sure exactly how that turned into "B*rber" (used for North Afican/Amazigh people) though.
when you said "berber" i know you referring to the tribes in north africa (not as an insult despite the fact that its derived from ancient greek) who are also called " Amazigh" but when you say " barbarian or barbaric" you dont have to be referring to north africa people because they mean any human who is savage and not civilized from any nation .. so i dont think berber is an insult and its just my opinion..
Alright berber is a slur given to north african , I dont support colonization or anything .. but it translates to " بربري " in arabic which is the same word writen in the begginig of the video so.. is she insulting north africa tribes or referring to them or she just means uncivilized?
"B*rber" is written as "البربرية" or in plural (B*rbers) as "البربر". The words she uses and which you gave "بربري" translates to as "barbaric". So she's not using the term for North Africans from what I can see. Of course she's not insulting North Africans. She's reclaiming an insulting word that has been used for Middle Easterners, North Africans and many other non-Western people.
I am an Australian and I wish that this was the sort of music played on our radios. We very rarely play anything of substance. Not only is the message on point, but the beat, production and film clip is great. I hope to see you take the world by storm.
@@ojberrettaberretta5314 I think they are meaning Hijabi as in they veil. Veiling is a similar concept as a hijab (modesty) and some use it interchangeably.
I believe in celebrating what Star Trek called "infinite diversity in infinite combinations" - I see beauty in human beings from every place on this planet that human beings can live. I'm an average White woman of Western European ancestry - but all around me I see beautiful people with fluffy African hair, graceful Middle Eastern faces, classic high cheekbones, skin of brown, tan, pink, bronze, all the different forms of human beauty. And I believe that this diversity is what makes *ALL* humanity beautiful.

thank you so much for that song. I just discoverd it 5minutes ago and I was so happy, I felt so happy because you have found the words, the rythms, the colors and the way to express something really important and present in our society. It's so difficult nowadays to find the right middle between our origins and the country we are living in, it's so difficult to stay who we are, to accept who we are and to take the positive in both sides. But now I remember that we are barbarian and we can decolonized our minds. Everywhere, we are beautiful the way we are. No matter what they say (sorry, i'm not an english native speaker ;) )

It's irritating when people, like Trump, would rather emphasize our differences and profit off of dividing us rather than celebrate what connects us as human beings.
Daily reminder that 60% of whites, and 70% of white males, voted for Trump
@@johnnyd6953 Because they can't stand strong women.
3:14 I see that "tea" reference, Mona. I see it. AND I LOVE IT!
Violet Manu is berber an insult? Really?
abd-er-RAH-man Yes it's an insult to North Africans.
Just heard this for the first time.
Not Muslim, not even female, but this is POWERFUL. Hope this makes a BIG impact

I am an Australian and I wish that this was the sort of music played on our radios. We very rarely play anything of substance. Not only is the message on point, but the beat, production and film clip is great. I hope to see you take the world by storm.
literally the best Eid present is this entire video and message
Okay but why did TikTok have to show me this song!?!?!? Thank you but omg this is amazing!!!!!!!!
Middle eastern & proud! 💜 from Turkey
What makes me beautiful is the life and laughter you see in my eyes, no need to show hair and skin. Happy as a Pagan Hijabi and would never change it!
pagan hijabi?you know paganism is not allowed in islam world you would get killed if you come out as pagan
@@ojberrettaberretta5314 I think they are meaning Hijabi as in they veil. Veiling is a similar concept as a hijab (modesty) and some use it interchangeably.
If they’re civilized I’d rather stay savage 😏😏🙃
I believe in celebrating what Star Trek called "infinite diversity in infinite combinations" - I see beauty in human beings from every place on this planet that human beings can live. I'm an average White woman of Western European ancestry - but all around me I see beautiful people with fluffy African hair, graceful Middle Eastern faces, classic high cheekbones, skin of brown, tan, pink, bronze, all the different forms of human beauty. And I believe that this diversity is what makes *ALL* humanity beautiful.
Now that’s what you call a power move 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I'm from Brazil. I met your song by a recommendation of RUclips and I loved it so much! I shared with my friends to listen your voice too, you are so amazing! ❤️😍

I sure hope your life is going well Mona Haydar. You are one of those Americans who I think keeps our country going. Folks like you will save our culture, by embracing the connection we all have. For the future, 7 generations on.
This is still one of the most artistic videos I’ve ever flipping seen.
Damn this woman is amazing. I can feel the stereotypes inside my head fading away with every word she speaks
bruh
thank you so much for that song.
