    Im not muslim or arab. Im a native hawaiian christian but this message really resonates with me. Us too, we were also called savages and the United States supported the overthrowal of our monarchy and took away our suffrage because they said we weren't capable of governing ourselves. Thank you for talking about the colonial stigmas concerning the bodies of people of color. Something ive dealt with in my family being mixed and indigenous.

    There should be no shame eating with hands/sticks
    Washing hands before and after eating was sunnah for 1400 years in Islam.
    Sitting while eating means being humble while eating as far as I know

      It’s also hypocritical. Pizza, french fries, chicken fingers, sandwiches. There’s tons of western food that we eat with our hands. It only seems to become a problem when it’s food we don’t recognize or don’t associate with “finger food.” There’s absolutely zero shame in eating with fingers when the fingers are clean.

      @Ruddy Bakewell what do you know about wars and it's roles !! You siad the right name it's called battles it's mean simply forces against forces, armies against armies weapons against weapons ok ? So when you win this war there's something called hostages you caught them and u can at wars roles exchange them or prison them or do whatever unless killing them as the humanity wise history don't told you that islam grabbed people from their homes and made them slaves they were soldiers who's you talke about i think islam literally the only religion didn't killed their hostages and kept their souls
      by the way Israel at modern history killed their hostages after wars and forced them to dig there graves and killed them in there so what your opinion about that islam never did so you can search more to be fair

    I'm from Turkey and even though I'm not a Muslim I grew up with Muslim and middle eastern culture and they're deeply ingrained in me. I often feel a dislike towards my own culture because of the western slandering towards it and I hate that I'm wired to think like that. Mona, what you're doing is honestly changing me, it's so empowering. It's hard to not get disheartened in this world as a middle eastern woman but this song is lifting my spirit from all that trouble. Thank you for your words!

      How are you not brainwashed? Were you not told by your parents at an early age about Islam? Were you not taught Islam in school? Is your country not built on Islam? How is that not brainwashing whomever is born in that country, also just because a lot of people believe something is true, does not make it so. Just like everyone thought the earth was flat some hundred years ago or that the earth was at the center of the universe, it wasn't.

    I think Middle Eastern women are gorgeous. Every time I saw a woman wearing her hijab I thought, "she's so beautiful." You are so beautiful and talented Mona. I am so thankful that I found your music. I want to see more nonwestern people and cultures gain greater representation. We are all stronger when we're united. It's irritating when people, like Trump, would rather emphasize our differences and profit off of dividing us rather than celebrate what connects us as human beings.

  • @waymilky442
    @waymilky442 6 лет назад +110

    It's pretty clear that she's not talking only about North Africans from the lyrics and from the fact that she's Middle Eastern (Palestinian I think???). She's refering to any non-Western people that are called "barbaric" by racist people. That's why the title is not "B*rber" (which is an insult towards North African people).

    • @feinfein4444
      @feinfein4444 6 лет назад +3

      Violet Manu is berber an insult? Really?

    • @waymilky442
      @waymilky442 6 лет назад +12

      abd-er-RAH-man Yes it's an insult to North Africans. The word "barbar" itself has it's origins from Ancient Greece. Ancient Greeks used to call pretty much anyone not Greek "barbar" but then the word turned to mean "uncivilized/wild", which racist uses for many groups of people/cultures that are not Western. I'm not sure exactly how that turned into "B*rber" (used for North Afican/Amazigh people) though.

    • @feinfein4444
      @feinfein4444 6 лет назад +6

      when you said "berber" i know you referring to the tribes in north africa (not as an insult despite the fact that its derived from ancient greek) who are also called " Amazigh" but when you say " barbarian or barbaric" you dont have to be referring to north africa people because they mean any human who is savage and not civilized from any nation .. so i dont think berber is an insult and its just my opinion..

    • @feinfein4444
      @feinfein4444 6 лет назад

      Alright berber is a slur given to north african , I dont support colonization or anything .. but it translates to " بربري " in arabic which is the same word writen in the begginig of the video so.. is she insulting north africa tribes or referring to them or she just means uncivilized?

    • @waymilky442
      @waymilky442 6 лет назад +5

      "B*rber" is written as "البربرية" or in plural (B*rbers) as "البربر". The words she uses and which you gave "بربري" translates to as "barbaric". So she's not using the term for North Africans from what I can see. Of course she's not insulting North Africans. She's reclaiming an insulting word that has been used for Middle Easterners, North Africans and many other non-Western people.

    I believe in celebrating what Star Trek called "infinite diversity in infinite combinations" - I see beauty in human beings from every place on this planet that human beings can live. I'm an average White woman of Western European ancestry - but all around me I see beautiful people with fluffy African hair, graceful Middle Eastern faces, classic high cheekbones, skin of brown, tan, pink, bronze, all the different forms of human beauty. And I believe that this diversity is what makes *ALL* humanity beautiful.

    thank you so much for that song. I just discoverd it 5minutes ago and I was so happy, I felt so happy because you have found the words, the rythms, the colors and the way to express something really important and present in our society. It's so difficult nowadays to find the right middle between our origins and the country we are living in, it's so difficult to stay who we are, to accept who we are and to take the positive in both sides. But now I remember that we are barbarian and we can decolonized our minds. Everywhere, we are beautiful the way we are. No matter what they say (sorry, i'm not an english native speaker ;) )
