- In this video I'll be trying out the Toauto tabletop metal melting electric furnace V1.1. I will be melting down some scrap copper wire and making some custom coins using graphite molds. This melting furnace can melt copper in 45 minutes and will heat up to a maximum temperature of 1100° C or 2000° F. This is the perfect furnace for beginners looking to get into metal casting at home and don't want to spend a lot of money on a large propane furnace. It is small and lightweight and can be placed virtually anywhere. All the necessary casting tools and safety gear are included with this machine. I have had my eye on this unit for a while. Melting with no noise what a great idea. You answered my question on how hard is it to clean the crucible after melt. Very amazing pour and pour quality of the molds. Thanks for sharing.
This is what I was thinking of getting since I'm only going to go small scale to build up a collection of different metals and not worry about art pieces etc. Also, I would not have to worry about the price of propane, exchanging tanks, etc. Thank you for the demonstration on this.
Might want to look into that electricity cost though.

I'm so glad this works. I really wanted to get into this after watching way more hours of videos than I'll publicly acknowledge, but the Devil-Forge looked spooky compared to this. I can't wait to get this now!
I definitely recommend it for beginners. There’s no need to buy propane or anything else. All the tools you need are included 👍🏻
Thoughts on using this to melt down cans? Obviously you'd have to fold them over the crucible is unable to hold cans as is.
I wouldn’t recommend it for cans. Too much slag and the crucible isn’t very big. It would work but would take a really long time

Hello is this is for gold and silver , copper only? What other metal can do? I want to by one
This would be perfect for my jewelry designs. Could get temps right on target for gold and silver. Can see where the bigger forges would be better served with metals at a higher melting point. Thanks for showing this one!
Bought one of these before Christmas. Works pretty well. Use it for me small lost wax casts and so I’m not outside in the cold or have to deal with not casting anything cause of the rain.
If you don’t inside you need a fire extinguisher just in case and a bottle of water to instant cool metal

I have been using a similar electric furnace for a few years now, but not a knock-off. The Goldbrunn 3000, it goes up to 1150°C and does that a bit faster, about 30 minutes I think. And the crucibles last longer too.
However, it is a bit more expensive, but I love how easy it is to use. I use it indoors in the garage during winter for smaller casting projects.

you don't have to knock them on the floor metal will release when cold or you might break the crucible, they are easy to crack

Silver and Gold would be ideal for this sort of furnacd.

Volume was my thought not temp. Silver and gold are generally smaller volume pours. My copper pours are larger bars and coins so this size would not suit me for copper.

I have one and it's still working after 20+ melts but not copper melts. It's recommended by the manufacturer to not run it for more than 3 hrs without letting it completely cool off. Which ashes the crucible
@@jamieleseelleur9925 about 10-15 melts. When they cool, they seem to get ashy. I brush them with a nylon brush to keep the pours clean. Aftermarket crucible seem to be better made

I think for me a small furnace like this would be good for melting down samples to take to the scrap yard for a 9 bar analysis before running a larger melt

You should really try out the Lyman Big Dipper casting furnace. It is much cheaper, but can only melt lower melting metals.

If your house electrical wiring, breaker box is not up to the task, it may start a fire.

i really loved this vid, is it 110 volts ? Is using it as economical as using propane or does it make your electric bill go crazy ? I am truly a beginner, but I dont wanna buy too small of a furnace if I'm gonna want a propane fired "Devil Forge" in less than a year. i've looked on Ebay for pre-owned forges both gas and electric and have not seen any in weeks. Also I seen that bigstackD Casting recieved a custom stamp from you to use on his ingots. where can i find pricie and availability on those stamps both stock and custom. I got one of these from Amazon. Right out of the box it failed to heat.
I set temperature to 300c to heat treat the crucible. Nothing happened.
I will return this. I also won't be ordering another.
Cool little furnace, I thought about a furnace like that if I ever traveled, I could take a small setup with me, and be able to make stuff in the different places I visited. It would be nice and quiet, and you can do all sorts of graphite molds or small flask sand casts. Was it me, or just the way the camera/light looked on the coins that they looked really golden?

Mines on a wooden box in the living room lol Even when fully melted bronze at 1150C, I can touch the metal shield around it and not get burnt

ADAM NICE WORK BROTHER, I have seen these before but I only seen people melt gold or silver in those types of Furnaces Never seen copper being melted only gold,silver and they pour it in that little mold that came with it and yes that cools down way to fast so you said this unit is only a few hundred bucks what does it cost for the devil forge for the basic needs to start up with a Devil Forge👍😎🇨🇦👍😎🇨🇦👍😎🇨🇦

Im wanting to melt copper to make busbars, thought it may be more cost effective, but seeing the price of this "Toauto" unit as of December 2023, buying copper busbars would be cheaper. Definitely didnt see that one coming.

what would you estimate time from start of the machine to pour? I know you had mentioned about 45 minutes to get up to temperature… But how long does it take to melt an entire crucible worth?

I just bought this exact one last week and it should be here tomorrow. I am happy to see it can do copper. I'm going to be melting more aluminum and silver for doing my jewelry pendants because I sick of buying silver wire at these high prices online. It cheaper for me to buy this and buy the wire pull plate and pliers to make my own wire. I also already got a cheap rolling mill, so this is going to do me fine I see for a little while. I hope it lasts a while though. Any problems with yours 3 years later?
Mine still works just fine. Keep in mind that copper takes a while to get to temp and you need to pour quickly. I would also recommend getting multiple crucibles to use with each different alloy so you don’t contaminate the metal.

I ordered one and the PID screen melted the first time I used it! I’m hoping it’s a bad unit and I’m about to try my new one out. My crucible also was disintegrating by the time it was hot enough….

I recently bought one. No problems after first melt went well. I have a devil forge propane furnace n all. Though saw a video about how the electric crucibles only last about 5 melts. Idk if the guy melting was abusing the heat or not. How many melts can I get from a crucible while following proper tactics? I don't wanna have molten metal ruin my toauto inside. Thanks and hope to hear back
Make sure to temper your crucibles before each melt to make sure that no moisture is trapped as it it will crack otherwise

Im thinking of buying this since in finland we dont seem to have those gas furnaces, but even 3kg crucible it seems to be tight fit... Im not sure if its good buy or not, im still planning to melt aluminium and copper (mainly). Might not be ideal for that.

For the most part yes. Silver melts about 200° lower than copper but using those settings you should be fine 👍🏻

the little molds are for silver and gold mine friendnhas that and he uses it for that purpose he also has the molds that are 1 and 2 times bigger than the ones that come with it henis trying to get his coins bars and ingots certifide for fair trade sales

I wonder what the coil is made of? Obviously not copper or it would melt. Maybe graphite or carbon?
As someone that uses these for silver daily I can tell you at the high temp to melt copper these coils burn out after about 4 uses

Great video as always! I am looking to get into melting, and I've been collecting aluminium drinks cans. Will they fit in the crucible? Sorry for the newbie question, but you and BigStackD are the only melters I follow. I've learnt so much watching your vids
You’d have to really crush them or shred them to fit. I wouldn’t recommend it for cans as there is a lot of slag and it’s not very big. It would work but will take a long time to melt a lot of cans

Dang I just ordered this to melt cans too and it just came in. Definitely would take a lot of work , as a crushed can definitely won’t fit. Might have to return for a bigger one that can handle. This was so appealing as it’s just using regular electrical outlet

I was hoping you could answer a few questions @ArtByAdrock I have a devil forge that I use but now my wife got me one of the kind u just used but mine is a gen 1 & the manual that came with it tells me nothing!! So if you could take a minute & answer some things for me it would be great.
1. Do you put the crucible with what u are melting in it why it is heating up ?
2. Copper melts at 1083.4 C so do u set it above that temp ?
3. In your video I saw both numbers matching so the temp & the set temp. Mine goes down when I put the crucible in it ??

Yes put the metal in while it is heating up. I put it in before I even turn it on. For copper I would set the temp to the max and even after it’s melted I’ll still wait a few more minutes. For other metals I typically set it to 100° over the melting point so it doesn’t cool too quickly. Hope that helps
