The description is absolutely right. If you look past the surface level vulgarity of P&S, you can find something deeper. The shows got a lot of heart if you look for it. I think the decision to end every episode on such a bitter sweet song showed what the core of the anime was really shooting for, especially in the last few episodes. It is such a one of a kind piece of media. The vibe can never be replicated.

True but the biggest reason why panty and stocking was extremely popular isn’t really the story having super deep meanings but the fact that this anime has absolutely no bottom line when it comes to jokes n stuff. The design of Hiroyuki’s anime is basically letting his mind go complete wild which js also why most of his anime were considered ahead of time.

There's an incredible amount of consistency in the writing. Almost every weird background detail can probably be traced to a reference, some lore you'd have to read the artbook to learn, or something that happened in the mangas/comics
