Thanks for explaining this, it makes sense also when your sitting learning VST tutorials, iwas sitting & wondering if i could get the same sound on Lennar Digitals Sylenth1 & Synapse Audios DUNE through their init patches. Still their using diffrent type of synthesis, (Subtractive & FM) you could get the basic sound fairly right by studying how the signal paths goes, as described here.
Just got a Korg Minilogue and I don't get that shit, I turn the same knob on different sounds and I see no similarity or system behind what most of them do, I hope this video will clear things up for me lol
This video was made "in the house" of the professor, not in the house of Moog! It's not because MoogMusicInc made this video, that the people who are acting in it, are members from Moog.Behind the professor you see also a Prophet 5 of Sequential Circuits(1978).
to teach in any musical sector, synth related teachings my favorite, you CANNOT slack off at your job, you may be grooming the next real musical prodigy. I think a break through will come in sound design, and it will change how music is ingested. maybe some sort of virtual reality/audio combo, or an eyes closed visual experience?
this is great, more synth companies should make videos about sound synthesis basics.
Outstanding series of videos, very clear and easy to follow from the ground up. Thanks 👍
I like your style doc
Loved this.
Hey, I remember that Moog from my MIDI class at MTSU over 20 years ago!
that ARP in the background is why I'm so obsessed with them now, Akins was an amazing professor!
You seem like you'd be an awesome teacher to have. I wish you were at my alma mater. Keep up the awesome work.
I was about to fall asleep watching this. But it was worth it.

Thanks going on to next sir!
Yeah awesome vid!!
You could directly inject the LFO into the audio signal (tremelo), but I guess in that case it's a modifier not a controller
My first "History of Synthesis and Sampling" uni course is tomorrow, which is why I found this video :D
Where can I buy the book you talk about? I don't see anything on your website about buying it
Can we get a credit for the intro song? Perhaps a link for download? It's fantastic
Why wouldn't it be there?! Fantastic classic synth!
That was hard work
great 👍🏻

Please revive the Memorymoog.
God how I wish he was doing this tutorial on the Memorymoog in the background instead...
i feel like i'm in class right now
The early versions had a Moog filter - a copy, but still ;)
Because it's the greatest synth ever made
Its blue ❤

@3:03 Watch the eyes my friend... #djrtnyc
man learned this stuff in the 80s lol :P
Anyone else here because they wanna figure out how to not only use fruity loops synth presets?
Yap😂
Yea 😂, back in days it was hard as heck for makin music
I feel like an idiot every time I see a Memorymoog (Plus)...since getting rid of the one I had 20+ years ago.
"Hey i just met him"
adorable
Blasphemy, MoogMusic! What's an ARP 2600 doing there!!
ARP 2600 is brilliant to learn fundamentals on. It was, after all, designed to teach students basic FM.
So Bob James knows how to do this shi😂?!
This is synth basics for people who know all about synths already. It’s not for beginners.
Stephen Murray Any videos you recommend for a totally ignorant person on the subject-like me>?
