Oh hey love your channel. But I hate to point this out lol. But you made some mistakes in this video. First off there were 3 halloween movies released in the 80s. Halloween 2 was released in 1981. Also john carpenter was 5 in 1953. That was the 1950s, You had referred to the 60s as a crazy time. Even tho he was a little kid in the 50s. By the time the moonlanding, martin luther king and the beatles had came out, That was the 60s. John carpenter was in his teens to early 20s, in the 1960s. So he was definetaly involved in the politics of the 60s. John Carpenter is a Liberal democrat, who hated Reaganomics, that was his inspiration when making They Live in 1988. Anyways enjoy your content.
@reeelones With respect, Jimmy, if your title is misleading, has incorrect information like how many movies there were in the decade, and head-scratching comments like pointing out that there is a hand in the poster, people might not make it until the end of the video. This is the first video of a new channel. You need to put your best foot forward. There's still time to take this down and re-edit.
Something he hasn’t brought up until recently and has never been mentioned by other cast and crew for nearly 30 years. Where’d you learn about this? The Horror Show podcast? Come on, man.
Or Halloween 4 where they basically had wacky wacky music every time the cops walk by my mom and I watching it and my mom went to that scene and she looks me dead in the eye and goes what is this holoween saved by the bell@@borednow5838
Came from the Jake recommendation, stayed for the insightful, positive and all around wonderfully produced piece on one of my favorite directors. You’ve got a fan from the beginning here.
Sorry, but you were wrong when you said that Halloween only had two sequels in the entire decade of the 1980s. There were actually four - Halloween II in 1981, Halloween III: Season of the Witch in 1983 (an unofficial sequel), Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers in 1988, and Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers in 1989.
Hi Jimmy, just come here from Fan The Deck's recommendation, I knew you were making this channel but didn't know its name. I have bee watching films for all my life, several decades now cough.. and horror film stories and behind the scenes info is always great to know. So I'm happy you've made this channel. I grew up watching the 80's films, THE best film era IMO. So many fantastic classics from all genre's.
I was in high school back in 1978 and remember why we loved "Halloween" so much. It was more for technical reasons more than just the story. The film was shot using what was the brand new Panaglide system. The film was also shot in the widescreen 2.35:1 aspect ratio instead of the usual 1.85:1. When projected on a huge movie screen, the combination of the Panaglide scenes along with the widescreen gave the film an almost "you-are-there" feel to it. It was incredible. We knew, at the time, that it wouldn't be the same experience shown shrunk down on the small TV screen. No matter how big your wall or computer screen is, it can't capture the experience projected on that large theatre screen. Another reason was that Carpenter insisted using the best lenses he could get for night shots. Film makers have to water down such things as streets, roads etc. for night shots. This is to reflect more light for filming. But with the "fast" lenses he used, he didn't need to water down for night shots. Therefore, night scenes have a more realistic nighttime look. This doesn't have anything to do with Carpenters opinion of the franchise, but I thought there may be some people who were wondering why the original film made such an impression.
As soon as you announced this channel I had to immediately subscribe. I really love the format of this video, the editing, and all of the time and love you put into researching the topic. Even the information I already knew was delivered in a way that made it interesting, and you also taught me some new fun facts like them carrying around a bag of leaves while filming. Thanks for your hard work Jimmy, and congrats on taking this leap of faith for the channel. I know it will pay off for you!
Went through all of Carpenters movies a couple years ago along with a movie podcast. Was a great experience. Can't say I love (or even like) all of them. But seeing all of them really gives a great context to his career and style. The Thing is a top 5 movie of all time for me
Jimmy, I hate to be a nitpick, but once again I have to correct you. Donald Pleasance and Jamie Lee Curtis were never John Carpenter's original choices for Dr. Loomis and Laurie Strode. Carpenter's original choices for Dr. Loomis were horror legends Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee. Lee, who turned down the role, and later admitted that it was "the worst mistake of his career," since Halloween gave Pleasance a huge career boost. Carpenter's original choice for Laurie Strode was actually Battlestar Galactica actress Anne Lockhart, daughter of Lost in Space actress June Lockhart. Lockhart was unavailable due to her other commitments, so Jamie Lee Curtis was cast, and Carpenter stated that he had no idea that Jamie Lee Curtis was the daughter of Janet Leigh when she first read for the role.
This channel has the potential to be something great if it maintains or increases this quality. Which I generally don't know how you can get better than this, but you never know. Keep it up!

Thanks! Blair Witch Project is next and then Fede Alvarez. Terrifier is 100% coming by the end of the year and I have an idea for a movie that Resident Evil 4 borderline ripped off. If I can make RUclips feed out videos about horror games, that would be excellent.
The "Thing" is diffidently in my top 5 greatest Horror movies of all time and Michael Myers is my 2nd favorite slasher. Great video and very informative.
Stephen King and Carpenter didn't like being labeled as exclusively horror guys, but hey, there could be worse labels. Glad you started this new channel.
As ALWAYS Jimmy this video’s TOP NOTCH!! If it wasn’t for John Carpenter and Halloween ‘78 I probably would’ve never gotten into horror movies! I was also a kid (born in ‘72) and STILL TO THIS DAY I remember watching Siskel & Ebert and they were reviewing Halloween and the scene they showed was Michael chasing Laurie into the closet and as I was watching it I was ABSOLUTELY terrified but at the same time I wanted to see more of it once they stopped playing it! So, from the bottom of my heart THANK YOU John Carpenter for making that MASTERPIECE!!! 🎃🔪
The only thing more brutal than Michael Myers is the thumbnail for this video, lol! Jokes aside, this was a really fun watch, you managed to surprise me with a few details I didn't know! Slasher films.... meh. At least NOES (Freddy Krueger) was really imaginative. I put Nightmare On Elm Street above F the 13th and Halloween. NOES had really cool special effects and clever stuff and the villain was way creepier and cooler than the others that mindlessly slugged around stabbing young college age kids. I bet J. Carpenter is okay with the $ but he just didn't want to make the same movie over and over and over. Creative people want to explore new things.
Love the take on this video! I SAW THE HAND HOLDING THE KNIFE! Carpenter created an entire genre and hated it. True artist! Keep up the good work, I’m glad to follow over to another channel. Can’t wait to see more.
like most people i grew up watching these films and sometimes its really hard to find reliable info and piece it all together like you did in this video and for that i really thank you !
This is why I always preferred Wes Craven. Craven had dreams to make other projects but got stuck in the horror genre but he embraced it and his fans. He just had this energy and enthusiasm about him! The fact that he directed all the scream sequels (till he passed) and tried to stay involved in the Nightmare franchise even though he didn’t want it to be a series says a lot for him (gave feedback on part 2, wrote a draft for 3 and 4 that were rejected, did New Nightmare, and tried to be involved in the Remake). Carpenter just comes across as grumpy and over it which can be pretty sad to hear.
You are conveniently leaving out the part he begrudgingly participated in these sequels to get “Music of the Heart” made. The documentation of Wes Craven’s relationship with horror is out there for anyone curious and this commentator isn’t revealing all the cards. 😂
Real shit though, people still call The Shape Jason and it really stirs my guts. Much luck on the new channel Jimmy. This video is a solid first outing. Love me some good Carpenter content.
Great video, Jimmy! I knew a lot of the info, but there were still some new tidbits that I managed to learn from it, so thanks. Besides, it's always fun to talk more about Halloween. Good luck with the channel. I just subscribed, so Shape On!
Great video man, learned a lot (I have to admit I did not know that the mask was William Shatner's face until you told me and then I felt stupid for not putting it together way before, LOL)
I enjoyed this immensely. Thank you for this. I love a good appreciation and John Carpenter deserves this more than most filmmakers. He is truly one of the best ever and, I think, ranks as an auteur of film. Keep up the good work here.
Love you Jimmy but, a lil confused by your Coupe DeVilles comment, Castle literally plays guitar and sings falcetto in the Big Trouble song/music video. Best of luck with the new channel. Love the new video
Glad you started this channel , it's very cool . John Carpenter is awesome and I really appreciated this video ,awesome channel looking forward to more content 👍🤘✌️
I agree with you, Jimmy, that the plot twist making Laurie Strode the sister of Michael Myers is bad, but not for the reasons you mention. Yes, it does diminish the mystery of Michael Myers, but it's also inconsistent with the continuity of the original film. There's only a four year age gap between 21 year old Michael Myers and 17 year old Laurie Strode, who would have been 2 years old when Michael killed his older sister Judith in 1963 when Michael was 6 years old. It would have been impossible for anyone to not know who she was if she was indeed his sister. Also, it makes no sense for Michael to escape from Smith's Grove for the purpose of killing Laurie since he spends the majority of the film ignoring Laurie and stalking Annie and Lynda at the Wallace house.
Halloween, The Thing, french horror Inside, Malevolence, Nightmare on Elm Street, Childs Play and Chucky tv show, Friday the 13th part 2 i guess i cant just pick 5
High Tension, Martyrs, Dead Alive, Evil Dead, Tigers are not Afraid, Old Boy, Let the Right one In, Night of the living Dead, The Card Player, Hellraiser, Hatchet, A Serbian Film probably the most twisted vial disgusting movie i have ever seen no recommend and ill never rewatch it, There are so many!

John doesn't hate Halloween. He just gets tired of talking about it because people don't bring up his other work nearly as much.
Which is the entire point of the video! Watch til the end before commenting.

There was actually four Halloween films in the 80's....Halloween 2 1981, Halloween 3 1982, Halloween 4 1988, Halloween 5 1989.
I KNOW (check the rest of the comments lol)

Real shit though, people still call The Shape Jason and it really stirs my guts. Much luck on the new channel Jimmy. This video is a solid first outing. Love me some good Carpenter content.
Had no idea Jimmy Champane had a horror channel. I know about PS Ready and his pc channel. Mind blown…..
This is the first video
Great video, Jimmy! I knew a lot of the info, but there were still some new tidbits that I managed to learn from it, so thanks. Besides, it's always fun to talk more about Halloween. Good luck with the channel. I just subscribed, so Shape On!
Hell yeah I’m glad there was something new
*Actually Halloween 5 came out in 1989 too, so that's 3.
Glad you're making these videos that you've been wanting to though Jimmy!
I said two movies featuring myers ;)
@@reeelones lol duh, you right
Great video man, learned a lot (I have to admit I did not know that the mask was William Shatner's face until you told me and then I felt stupid for not putting it together way before, LOL)
NICE! Glad to see people finding new things to like

I enjoyed this immensely. Thank you for this. I love a good appreciation and John Carpenter deserves this more than most filmmakers. He is truly one of the best ever and, I think, ranks as an auteur of film. Keep up the good work here.
Damn, thanks a ton. This comment means a ton
Does anyone know where one could watch Christine? I never had the chance to watch that, and I have no idea where I could.
I have it currently on Apple+, don't know if it's worldwide though... I'm from EU.
I bought it on Apple
Love you Jimmy but, a lil confused by your Coupe DeVilles comment, Castle literally plays guitar and sings falcetto in the Big Trouble song/music video. Best of luck with the new channel. Love the new video
What’s confusing
@@reeelones thanks for the response! Just you kinda saying that nobody knew he was in the Coupe DeVilles before 2018?
Nice work Jimmy! Great idea for a channel and very informative.
Thank you so much!
You can see Fred Savage watch amuaic video of all band members of the Coup DeVilles in "The Boy Who Could Fly" directed by Nick Castle.
That’s sweet
The intro is literally perfect
Thank you!
Saw your other video on Jimmy Champaign...over here now. Looking forward to all this will bring.

For your first video, this one sets the bar for your channel pretty high!
Liked & subscribed. 🔪🎃
Glad to hear that
Loved it, can't wait for more!
Thank you for checking it out
I agree with you, Jimmy, that the plot twist making Laurie Strode the sister of Michael Myers is bad, but not for the reasons you mention.
Good picks
WHAT?!! Carpenter was STILL FIVE YEARS OLD in the SIXTIES (3:20)?????
IT'S A JOKE
Congrats on the new channel. You have to do it, otherwise you’ll always regret not doing it
