    Bottle calves are so fun to raise. A couple of years ago we bought some jersey bull calves. They are getting close to butcher weight. Probably will butcher them this fall. Can’t wait. They are really cute. We raised ours in a lean to style shed and they did fine. I wouldn’t get to crazy about there being zero draft in your barn. Good luck with you little calves. You won’t regret having some yummy Jersey meat.
    Thanks for sharing. Take care.

    They are sooooo cute! I was wondering what y’all were gonna do with three, but then you said two were going to friends. That is awesome. I would be out there playing with them all the time. I just can’t resist baby animals. I hope y’all will be able to get the rest of your work done. LOL. Can’t wait to see more videos of them. You could name them Winken, Blinken & Nod or do the other people get to name theirs? This will be soooo much fun, at least for us. Blessings on y’all & your homestead. Love & Hugs from Vicki in Ft. Worth, Texas 🇨🇱🇺🇸👍❤️🐮🤠🙏

      Thank you Vicki! We have actually considered those names! Along with a bunch of others! Getting any work done around here is gonna be hard.

    Jerseys are some of gentlest cows out there, and the milk is spectacular. The bulls, however, I would classify as "notional" at the best of times. Still, they are cute as anything, ain't they? That is why I only ever raised mean cows for food. Makes it easier to enjoy the steak when you think about all the times the critter tried to kill you.

      LOL great point! I have to say, these steers (we did band them) ...well I guess technically still steer calves .... and amazing. Way to sweet. Way to lovable LOL. But ... they will still server their purpose in just about year :)

    BABY COWS!!! their are adorable. My neighbours cows have gotten used to be going to basicly hug any cow or calf that stand still more than 5 seconds and i can now even go when they calf and they are bothered by me. I meant are not but I assume its was obviously a typo.

    Today I'm getting a Jersey Cow very excited but I've been reading & looking at videos of how to take care of them. His name is Buddy!

    Good luck with raising jerseys. They are going to take about 20-24 months to finish off. But will be fun for the family. One recommendation if they are being milk fed is that you will have to separate them individually, so they don’t suck on each other.

    • @PrattFamilyHomestead
      @PrattFamilyHomestead  4 года назад

      Yes. We have been talking about how much easier it will be if they are separated. Thank you.

      Yes. Correct. And 3 is cool. We have no problem lining up a 2nd person to take the 3rd one :) Can't believe how many people are knocking on our door the last couple years for pork, chicken and yes, we have been asked about beef alot!

    Nice they give better beef than most people realize. You can always eat one younger if you only want to keep 2 to full size

      We have bought 1/2 a jersey off a farmer for the last 2 or 3 years now and have always been happy with them. The other 2 are already spoke for. Had that arranged before getting all 3 😃

    Here in central NY when a farmer takes a jersey bull calf to auction, he usually gets a bill. Most of us honestly just put the bull jersey bull calves down and burry them. Most Holstein bull calves bring $5 to $10 dollars anymore. its good to see you people save these calves lives

    • @PrattFamilyHomestead

    It's really bad to see when people breed these animals and feed them as it's their own child, and at the end of the day they are slaughtered for meat.😢

      @PrattFamilyHomestead  4 года назад +1

      I actually agree with you. It will be a very hard day when we take them to the butcher.
