"Is this in Ohio." No, Detroit. I suspect some of this will be lost on people outside of the U.S., but things have been real, REAL (!) bad for Detroit, Michigan, from the 1970s on. For decades, Detroit (and the surrounding area) was home to a number of car manufacturers. These plants (and the businesses connected to them) were so big that they ended up employing a huge percentage of the city's workers, so when those same car companies started to move their manufacturing down to Mexico, pretty much everybody lost their job. Some moved to other parts of the country, but the people that stayed behind were stuck in a situation where their homes lost all of their value, crime spiked in a massive way and there was nowhere to find employment. To this day, there are parts of Detroit that look like they are part of a war zone.
33:58 Well, I kinda feel sorry for her. She's definitely insane but still human. Her need to be a mother is the sad, because it's all that's left of her humanity. Even when Tess puts the gun against her face she doesn't even understand she's about to die. She just wants Tess to be her baby. 😪
Also that neighborhood is in Detroit here in America. There are actual neighborhoods that look just like that. The neighborhood just became rundown over the years. The guy didn't lock her window, he unlocked it so he could sneak back in later.
The mother was definitely the most empathic person in the movie. She was one of the many rape victims of the old man in the basement. If we look at it from her point of view, she thinks Keith, AJ and the random man are trying to kidnap Tess and take her away from her. She loved Tess so much and was just trying to keep her safe. This woman has been through so much and everyone just thinks that she is a monster trying to kill these people. If she wasn't kidnapped by that horrible man then Keith, AJ and that random man would still be alive. The old man is the true monster in this story and nobody sees it. I feel so bad for her :(
Lemme clear this up. This WAS a set. BUT, this is pretty much exactly the same as a TON of neighborhoods in Detroit, not just this one. Literally miles and miles of this between the city and the suburbs.
"That's where Pennywise keeps his children" laughed so hard, then sat here wondering if you realized Keith is Pennywise lmao. Yet again, you deliver another 1st class reaction video. Keep em coming kind sir
This was a hilarious reaction.. you had me laughing out loud the whole time 😂. Loved this movie, so refreshing to see a horror movie actually able to subvert your expectations ❤
Tess is smart but she should av taken her keys and drive the cuss away the moment she got out of the house; I was rooting for her! Thank you for introducing me to movies like this, I had no idea where it was going
First red flag it was double booked, second red flag the neighborhood ,Third red flag her new boss told her that's a horrible area. I would have left with the first red flag.🤔
Justin Long is the Tusk guy for me. This is also another one of his creepy movies. I also remember he was in Jeepers Creepers too. He is really going for this type of movies i guess.
He is a lot more in comedies actually (Galaxy Quest, DodgeBall, Walk Hard, Idiocracy, Herbie: Fully Loaded, Going the Distance, half a dozen Kevin Smith movies and sitcoms like New Girl and Mom), and he voices Alvin in the Alvin & The Chipmunks movies.
Dude we got Doom Head & Pennywise in this. Richard & Bill are great at playing creepy lol. Justin Long always gets his eyes cut out. In Jeepers Creepers & here lol.

In 1984/85 Detroit went from a booming metropolis to everyone trying to leave as fast as possible because the factories went robotic. It eliminated the majority of the decent paying jobs in the city and made a mad rush to leave.
I saw it last night. I didn't find it scary one bit. Just fucked up what the guy did to the woman and children and the consequences of that result. Bill Skarsgard was so beautiful in it. Himself and tess's chemistry was cute asf.
I just watched this movie for the first time and watching your reaction is so great!! I had the same reactions to EVERYTHING!! I would have left the first dude down there and ran way 😂😂
I feel like the shift at the middle of the movie is to show AJ's perspective to the same situation Tess went through, like Tess said, men usually are not afraid of going scary places alone, usually men like AJ feel like they can take on anything like he tried to do with what he thought was a squatter
