    Sorry to hear about the untimely unneeded expense to cover the truck repair. Even here in the heavy snow belt where I live; snow can be either feast or famine. Most of the Lawn Care businesses here that also do snow removal establish a good healthy line of credit to carry them through from lawn season to lawn season in case they experience a less than normal snow season. That way these lawn care folks have enough cash available to meet their living obligations, and keep their good credit rating.

    You guys are great and I enjoy watching you guys succeed in business. I’ve included plowing in my business for the last 5 years we now run 3 trucks all storm but I always have one truck at the yard ready to go for things like this. My first year plowing we had a blizzard and I had a lot of accounts to get to About 12 inches on the ground snapped my front driveshaft first couple hours in and then cut it with a saw in a Napa parking lot lol but kept on plowing getting stuck constantly when eventually the linkage for the shifter snapped and I was all done for the night. Had no other truck had customers complaining and calling me all the names in the book which I understand to be quite honest I would have been made too, lost many accounts that storm. After that storm I went out and I bought a new truck and used my original as a back up because I’ve learned even new stuff can break especially snow plowing, my dump truck has a brand new xv2 and it broke first time using it 8000 dollar plow broke 5 hours in go figure. 5 years later and a lot of learning I run 3 trucks and always make sure I have an extra at the yard ready to work. Even if it’s an older pickup or anything just something for that what if you know. And you’ll always find a use for that extra truck even during landscaping season. Sorry for the story lol just want to see you guys succeed 👍 Plowing can be great and plowing can be realllly bad haha good luck guys keep killin it

    Shawn, as a mechanic that follows you, noise and excessive brakes dust/rust buildup on the rim are simply metal particles being deposited from the brake pad and or rotor caused by a pad that's worn out either on its own or with help from a sticking caliper and or frozen hardware. You could tell if its the latter by checking to see if the rim is warmer to the touch compared to the opposite side wheel. Also, any shop, including yourself could run a floor jack out to the truck and remove the wheel if they wanted to!Just a brake pad replacement more than likely as the truck is young if you catch it in time, but be sure and check the other side!

    If I were you, I would get a new truck for your company and designate the truck with brake issue as a plow truck. Have a new plow mount put onto the new truck just in case the plow truck breaks down. Plowing is always tough on a truck. This way you can have the older truck as your plow truck, having a new truck as a back up, when the older truck breaks down.

    Never plow with your (only) best truck. Many friends who do this have a truck they drive, and a truck for work. Their driver can sub in a day or two in emergency, but the work truck isn't their only truck. Everything in your shop is dependent upon that truck-snow, mowing...you gotta find a way to get a usable back-up.

  • @chrisbrandt3642
    @chrisbrandt3642 4 года назад

    TQ is right. Quit worrying about it. You will recover. My guess is the following:
    * Brake hung up on inside and you ground down pad and ruined caliper. This is my first guess do to all the dust on wheel. When you see that there is excessive wear going on.
    * Or your front wheel bearing is coming apart and causing problems. Might be why you got all these warnings all of a sudden. There is wheel speed sensor in the bearings for your antilock brakes.
    Really amazing that Firestone didn't have floor jack. Seems like they really don't do anything more than tires. Too bad. Hope your Ford dealership takes care of you.
    You should plan to add a good backup plow truck to your fleet. This is the reason why. Might want to look at adding same model truck, keeps parts and maintenance items easy. Get same plow and then you have flexibility in break downs.

  • @mikegibson1092
    @mikegibson1092 4 года назад

    Hey you two, never heard what it actually was but here is a suggestion for the future when you dont have a back up. Put a vice grip in the truck and a wrench for your bleeder screw (10mm or 3/8) dont know the fords that well. Take the vice grip pinch the line in a safe spot so it doesn't hit anything leave it on there. Now crack the bleeder screw to relieve the pressure in the caliper 1/4 to 1/2 turn tighten back down. Making sure it releases. Not a lot just a little. You will be without a brake on that corner and just be careful. Then you can get through the storm at least (commercial accounts for sure) because most people dont want to hear excuses unless mother nature drops 2 feet. Then everyone understands that stuff happens and they know they can't call anyone else. Been I your shoes many more times than I wanted to be lol just gotta push through it.
    Side note on my brakes now I always make sure I replace my ends that hook up to the caliper with 18" braided lines. Something happens have caps in the truck to unhook the line and cap the end of the braided line and male end on caliper. Sorry for long response

  • @ralfie8801
    @ralfie8801 4 года назад

    The unitized wheel bearing is shot. The hub cocked and the brake rotor is rubbing against the caliper bracket. Those bearings only last 40K or so on the Ford trucks. It'll throw an antilock brake code. Plus you've got the extra weight of the plow on there.

  • @victorblackwood3727
    @victorblackwood3727 4 года назад

    It appears the front hub failed. This is the bearings for the wheel. That is where the rust is coming from. Now the wheel is not sitting straight and because it is cocked the brake rotor is also not straight in alignment with the brake pads so the the pads are rubbing on the edges and may wear the pads improperly. Think a hub and pads will fix. If Ford hub is not available use Moog. Good Luck

  • @nathanplatt5517
    @nathanplatt5517 4 года назад

    I would not be surprised if the wheel bearing and hub assembly failed. A lot of times from the hub assembly fails it will put uneven pressure on a brake caliper and cause uneven brake Hardware causing that type of dust on the Wheel. Most common reason why bearings and hub assembly fails on trucks is when people put oversized tires which causes extra leverage and pressure on the Hub assembly when turning or have excessive weight on the front such as a plow. There's really no way getting around it if you put bigger tires and a plow on their it would happen to any truck it's just part of something you might have to include an annual maintenance and expense on your truck to do that every so many years

    I had a small stone get in my brakes after road resurfacing, luckily it popped out a few miles on. Hope yours is nothing worse!

    when pulling ahead to back drag a parking spot, keep going and when your tires hit the curb, your plow should be very close to the inner edge of the sidewalk. drop your plow and back drag the sidewalk AND the parking spot.

    From what I can see and hear in this video and using my rather limited experience and knowledge of vehicles my guess is something is up with your brake caliper and pad(s). A friend wore his pads down til they fell out and when he pulled over the leaking brake fluid had caught fire. Easily extinguished and he was driving a lot faster than you were.
    Hope it's not too painfully expensive to fix... Another reason to consider a second or replacement vehicle though as yours is hitting that point where things will wear out and need replacing as a matter of course.

    Sounds like the brake caliper locked up. Easy repair. New pads probably new rotor on that side and new caliper. Easy hour job

      It's a really common thing with Ford superduties. The caliper pistons love seizing in the outward position. So when you use your brakes when its seized then it starts wearing all the metal off the Piston and then rubs through and starts leaking fluid. That repair shouldn't cost alot

    Oh that Really Sucks Guys ... Hope they can get it Fixed in a Timely Manner. Now Shawn, Do you Guys have a Plan B or is your Truck it ? I Guess you could Rent one if you Had too 🤔 .... Like me, I used to have an Older Chevy Truck like you but I got Tired of Breakdowns so I Upgraded to a 2018 Toyota Tundra Crew Max SR5 4x4 24,000 Miles and that’s it, If my Truck goes Down I’m Dead in the Water. I Should Invest in a Spare but that means more Money & Insurance to be Paid, So I Scratched that Idea 💡 Ok Guys, Hope it Gets Fixed Soon ... Take Care and Be Safe Out Their 🇺🇸

    What caused it? Was it the wet heavy snow?

  • @jdtingle69
    @jdtingle69 4 года назад +6

    That would explain the excessive brake dust on that rim

    It's nothing that $500 in parts won't fix. One of the pistons on the caliper locked up, eating the inside of the brake pad and the rotor.
    Pad set, rotor and caliper parts alone at a Ford dealership, $500 plus labor.
    Sean, you need to be able to work on your own vehicles. While you may not have been able to fix it late in the evening, locally you could have got parts and been back on the road this AM.
    Sorry, Fords have issues with the twin piston calipers locking one piston in place and toasting the brakes. Had my F350 lock the drivers side caliper up a couple of weeks ago. Passed state inspection less than 2 months prior with better than 75% brake pads on front.
