Hi, thanks for the video. I used this to set up my straight key for my G90. I discovered that with this set up my key would not natively work with other radios. For other radios one wire has to be connected to the ground (base) and the other wire has to be connected to the tip (not the sleeve). I rewired my key to use the tip. It works with the G90 as well. The trick is not to connect the wire to both the tip and the sleeve.
Thanks for your note. Yes, trying to figure out the correct pinout for a number of devices seems to be a constant struggle in this hobby. It seems no two mic, earphone or key jacks work the same on each radio. Thanks for letting me know this video was of some help. 73
Thanks for your comment. That is why I put out this video ... I went through the same thing. Finally, I sat down one day to figure it all out. This also works with my Xiegu G1M.
Hi. Connected up my straight key a couple of weeks ago and also discovered that there is a morse decode function on the g90 when practicing. 73. Mike M3XGV
I ordered a straight key and it arrived today. It was wired by the manufacturer and I didn't notice it before, but it has the mono-plug on it. Any advice on how to rewire a plug for it?
Thanks for your note and apologies for not getting back to you sooner. The only thing I would do is cut off the connector from the new key you bought. Then buy a three-ring connector and connect the two wires to the recommended contacts. If you come up with a better idea, let me know.
CLARIFY, please - On your actual key, you have THREE wires, yet your diagram shows only TWO wires (what would be the "common/ground" and only one of the wires), for the plug to the G-90's KEY input, for dits and dahs. WHAT HAPPENED to the third wire? ALSO, page 36 of the G-90 manual shows the wiring of a regular stereo audio plug is what should be used for the G-90's KEY input. PLEASE ADVISE, thank you.
Thanks for the question. Only two wires are used for a straight key operation ....one wire from what I call the Base ... and one wire from the Ring. The wire from the Tip is not used at all for the Straight Key set up. Make sure you set up in the Manual Mode. The Q90 instructions does not cover this.

Thanks, Bro. Simple, direct and clear. Clarity is such a gift.
Thanks for your comment - let me know if there is anything else about the G90 you would like to know.
PERFECTLY answered some of my questions.
Well, no, see my request for clarification, please.
Thank you. Hours of searching, and this video solved the problem I was encountering. Perfect. 73 (_ _ ... ..._ _)

Thank you for that.👍☘️
So, no need to turn down power down? No need for a dummy load?

Thanks for your reply. I have a video on this channel describing how to use the decode function ... it works pretty well, just not perfect.
@@rbashta the decode function also works for practicing sending, not just decoding received code.

Thanks for that info the menu.. Good explanation. de N5YSW
What is the battery pack for on the back of the key?
I also use that key for code practice. I can connect the key to the battery and a buzzer to practice. Thanks for asking
@@rbashta Brilliant, thank you for the super fast reply. 73
