Having read Wallace Stegner's excellent book "Beyond the Hundredth Meridian: John Wesley Powell and the Second Opening of the West," I enjoyed this performance. The intent, it seems, was to give us a sense of what it would have been like to hear Powell lecture, and it succeeded, tracking closely with the Major's way of recording his thoughts. He had some amazing things to say. It would be like hearing an Apollo astronaut in the 1970s, a hundred years after Powell's expeditions.
My man Clay! So many opportunities to meet you, with the VIP ticket, but to apprehensive to actually talk to you, you are an amazing individual who inspires me always, who sees life and history as well, probably better, than I think I do, so much appreciation for your humanity in your own personal life, and your connection of humanity from the past to the present, Amazing!
Just rafted the Green River thru Gates of LaDore…past No-Name. Like Edward Abbey…Down the River. To the confluence of the Green and Yampa Rivers, It is one of the most amazing places on earth! A geologists paradise….You can’t Imagine it, unless you’ve been there! Abundance from Above…and water from below….catch me if you can✨🌵
It's unfortunate Lake Powell drowned the wonders that Abbey saw. Even then, the beauty that remains in the upper Colorado is astonishing. There's nothing like seeing a mile of layered rock towering above you, blocking out half the sky.
I saw a RUclips ad on some music I was listening to and it was about these two men exploring an unknown canyon, and they had to descend down these ropes on a 400 ft drop off. I enjoyed watching it but accidentally skipped the ad, so i looked it up and this was the closest I could find without knowing the name of anything in the video of the ad lmao
This guy is amazing. He literally memorised his life story.
Wow. A wonderful depiction of John Wesley Powell's journey. Thank you, National Geographic.
Magnificent portrayal of one of the giants of character and perception
Excellent orator, this is what entertainment was meant to be
That was awesome!! It was interesting hearing the account in the first person.
Wonderful lecture and concept, well done to all.

I bet the local natives used the Colorado river as a play ground for many years.
Not a playground but a battleground for survival! Wild Wild West was real

John 3:16-17 KJV.
Without anesthetic? Did JWP document this? Surgery without anesthetic during the Civil War, contrary to popular belief, was very rare.
That beard 😛
that audience is so rude.
I love you
Unbelievable
They really could have put the beard on better lol
Budget limits on the make up I see ???????
