    Love this video. It perfectly captures the Elektron discovery process - “wait, what does this do? Shit, I deleted it! Oh wow that is so cool...” I think Elektron stuff has a rep of being hard to learn but honestly the “learning” is more about being willing to put the time in and experiment. I started sitting with my Analog Rytm on the couch, too, and it just always ends up being so much more inspiring than staring at a blank DAW screen...

    Hey Ricky! Regarding the statements around 16:00 regarding the Trigless-Trigs and P-Lock.
    I picked up this machine a few weeks ago and I think I ran into the same issue. I wanted to create some Pitch & Filter sweeps. First tool I went for was the Trigless-Trigs, but they absolutely do not work at all. However, these sort of things are possible using "GLIDE-TRIGS". The manual has a painfully brief section, and there are some limitations on possible Glide-able parameters. But the brief is, you can create two trigs, each with a different P-Lock and then sweep between those values on the sequencer. Think of it as creating a simple "automation lane" in your linear DAW; the Glide-Trigs are your points in time (horizontal) and their P-Locks automation value (vertical).
    So basically, Trigless-Trig's P-lock lock to those set values for an instant in time. Useful for for say pitching around notes.
    Glide-Trigs's P-Locks, sweep values between two P-Lock trigs. Useful for creating Filter Sweeps and other such "automation lane" type functionality.
    This really opened up the machine for me. Became more synth than drum machine.

    The thing you want to do at around 18:40 - you can do it by changing the LEN value to the right. That sets the number of steps before the pattern resets.
    Turn all the way to the left to set it to "INF" so it loops without resetting.

    • @anthonyk5496
      @anthonyk5496 4 года назад +1

      Yeah, getting my head around that same thing on my model:samples. It's crazy how much you can get out of a "16 step" pattern with these Elektron boxes. 🎶

    • @thomasberner5282
      @thomasberner5282 4 года назад +1

      That's the way to do it, but there seems to be no way to get a reset of 32 steps on one track and 64 steps on another track. But actually, I never saw a compromise in that.

    It’s nice to have a channel doing such a good content.
    I’m trying to figure out what is better for me. An Analog Rytm mkt 2 or the digitakt + the syntak.
    I need one or the other to create my own drum samples in the studio.. I work a lot with sound design and in the DAW I usually use synth and sample layers to make my own drum sounds.
    When I say digitakt + syntak it’s because I’m thinking about syncing the MIDI of the two devices and layering the synth (of syntak) with samples (of the digitakt). Example: in digitakt a clap sample and in the syntak a synth model clap.
    I’m trying to figure out which choice has more sound design power.
    In the Analog Rytm mkt 2 I can resample… but in the digitakt + syntak it looks like there is a bigger range of sounds for me to tweak and experiment with.
    What would be your suggestion?
    Thank you!

    The dual vco is sick, and you can use 3 of them at the same time if you want to make chords, which is 6 oscillators.
    Or use one voice for bass and one for lead, and use the other for analog kick!

    Around 9:30 the reason you heard OSCs tuned was probably based on what note you were playing at the time. As you move up/down the register of notes the phase relationship becomes closer/further from the other. This is why some notes sound like the OSCs are wobbling faster than other notes even though you made no changes to OSC tunings

    @ 7:50 As far as I can tell (and i checked the manual) as you are raising the BAL knob in Dual VCO (with FM on) you are raising the level of OSC 2 which is causing the modulation you hear. You aren't hearing osc2 you are hearing osc1 being modulated. In this mode, BAL acts as a FM Amount knob.

    thanks Ricky for making this video. I think most people I've seen are underutilizing this drum machine. But I find that in most videos and in my personal experience, everyone has these similar moments of "Why isn't it.. wait.. why can't it do this?? thats annoying as FAWW***!!!" and then finding out "sh*T i cleared my previous pattern, or now the other one is messed up..." and also little quirks like, why is the pitch all weird, or why doesn't the decay work like I think it should? GRRRR!!! I've been both in wonder of this machine and also completely frustrated by it and curious why elektron won't just make it work like a normal person would think it should. maybe thats what others LIKE about it, but I personally hate it. and perhaps I'm looking at it all wrong. I'm starting to accept that if I want to make the best of this machine I should just give up any expectations of what i think it should do and just f*ck w all the settings and whatever comes out comes out. but, in some respects it keeps me from wanting to mess with it because i never know how it will actually fit into any one of my projects. anyway, just thought i would share

    ChatGPT says: In microtonal music, an octave is typically divided into more than 12 equal parts, unlike in standard Western music where the octave is divided into 12 equal parts (i.e., 12-tone equal temperament). One such microtonal tuning system is called 48-EDO, which stands for 48 equal divisions of the octave.
    In 48-EDO, the octave is divided into 48 equally spaced intervals, each of which is called a "48th-tone". These intervals are smaller than the semitones (i.e., half-steps) used in standard Western music.
    So, in 48-EDO, there are 48 notes within an octave, and each of these notes is separated by an interval equal to 1/48 of an octave. This is how 48 is related to an octave in microtonal music, specifically in the 48-EDO tuning system.

  • @architechproducer
    @architechproducer 2 года назад

    12 is usually one octave. 4 x 12 is 48, which makes more sense than 44. Twice twice.. Would be easier if they just used decimals and our usual numbers. 😅
    Elektron could gladly change this in an update, or for a future analog rytm Mk3.
    I would really enjoy having more LFO's and/or LFO destinations. Maybe channel unbound LFO's and ESPECIALLY stereo for the individual outs, which I don't get how they don't have.. (If they have and I just don't operate correctly, PLEASE educate me!)
    Thanks Ricky for inspiring greatly with your content!

    Eyo - If you want the 12 steps to continue on w/o reseting on the 1, in the 'master' section of the adv scale mode, increase the length to either 'inf', or to a multiple of the track scale you're focusing on (so 24, 36, etc). If you set it to 'inf', it can also be helpful to mess with the 'chng' setting to make sure patterns will chain/change over in song or chain modes.
    I just did a vid on the Analog Four (check it out :P), and in that performance I had that issue. I'm probably gonna do some beats on my AR soon and film them, and if I do I'll make sure to point that out!

    Would love to see a mini progress report on what you've been learning about the piano/theory. I'm doing the same (synth guy learning to actually play the damn thing). It's mind-blowing to discover what a genius interface the piano key layout is once you learn about modes (Dorian, mixolydian etc.)

    The Dual VCO combined with the analog filter, a little overdrive, and some ping-pong delay can create some wild acid-type sounds. The FM modes can also create some wild timbres and happy accidents pretty quickly, especially when you play with bend and (the OSC page) decay.

    Analog gear changes with temperature and is imperfect in general and is one reason why some folks like analog, other than the fact that it doesn't alias at any frequency. It could have been that your machine was either cold or had warmed up and you could perfectly sync the VCOs. But there's always an inherent 'drift' in analog. In fact, I have an Alesis micron that simulates analog drift. Each time the oscillator is triggered, it's off by the tiniest of tiny frequency, so if you set perfect pitch to all 3 oscillators, they will still phase 'ever so slightly' and moderately different each time, which is pretty close to how analog gear works.
    I don't know if it mentions temperature in the manual but in general, it's best to let analog gear warm up for about 3-5 minutes and the frequencies should be fairly stable.

    How to make it weirder*** set your master pattern length to 256 or some high number to have your polyrhythms continue to run without retriggering for longer periods :) I have actually found some really cool rhythms by setting the master length to shorter amounts like you have there.

    Have been playing around my Rytm MK 1 for half a year already. It's DVCO bass capabilities are not even close to such a toy as Volca Bass, not mentioning stuff like Doepher Dark Energy. Thanx for video. FM mixing was very surprising for me.

    Elektron Analog Rytm II vs MPC live II. I wonder which you would choose? I’m leaning more towards the Rytm II because of the sound and trigs.

      You cant slice samples and the time stretching is tricky on it ...so i have the MPC live 2 .

      @@Dewane1511 I appreciate the response 🙏🏿 . I’m really leaning towards the MPC live. I need a new workflow in my life. I’m starting to get a little tired of sitting in front of ableton.

    ARytm doesn't have trig lengths? To answer your trigless trig sustaining till the next trig comes along... Or did i get it wrong? I believe in the octatrack unless your trig is infinite in length it cuts the sample to the number of steps in your trig length.

    @19:08 what you want to do is adjust the Master length of the pattern. That’s the meaningful denominator for getting long, evolving, out of sync patterns
