Wishing Well was a song originally written by the English rock group Free and appeared on their sixth and final studio album Heartbreaker which was released January 1973. The album was co-produced by Andy Johns and Free. The song, Wishing Well, is a heartfelt plea by Free singer Paul Rogers and drummer Simon Kirke to guitarist Paul Kossofft (who was addicted to Mandrax [Quaaludes]) who, by the time the song was written, was past the point of no return.
Good for Pearl Jam for taking on this song and doing it justice. It doesn’t quite match Free’s original, which is not surprising given the song was personal for Paul Rodgers and Simon Kirke, as another commenter mentioned. To their credit, PJ was cool with exploring canonical “classic rock” songs rather than mocking them or exhibiting ironic distance
I do love this song, but I can't shake the feeling that the tempo is too quick. PJ's cover just feels like it's rushing through the song. Take it down a few BPM and it'd be dialed in perfectly.

2:36 - That might be the single best note Eddie has ever hit. And I’m saying that as someone who idolizes him.

Been a fan for a couple years, and my dad has been a fan since '92. I am just now learning about most of these Christmas singles
