From the preface by Margaret Leng Tan: "WAITING was composed in January 1952, seven months before John Cage's landmark silent piece, 4'33'', was presented to the world in August that year. With 26 of its 36 measures silent, this modest little piece is clearly evolving towards 4'33''. 'Waiting' is written in space-time notation, a system which Cage began using in the 1950's. [...]"
