- Celebrating its 73rd year, the Voice of Democracy program's 2019-20 theme asked students to reflect on "What Makes America Great." First-place winner Shruthi Kumar, sponsored by VFW Post 1581 and its Auxiliary in Omaha, Neb., received an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C., where she was presented with the T.C. Selman Memorial Scholarship award in the amount of $30,000. Great job Shruthi!

She's a great orator at such a young age. Hopefully by the time she's old enough to run for president one day, Americans will accept her as a woman of indian descent. So far, we (as a collective) have shown nothing but contempt to every would be president of indian descent. Especially on the right.
However, the comparison between the success of the USA and that of other former colonies of Great Britain is rather disconcerting - the native population of America was completely marginalised and the country was taken over by the Europeans, exploited and shaped as they wished. How can you compare that with a country like India, which was the richest country in the world when the British conquered it, and which was completely plundered and strategically divided up by the former coloniser?
Please dont go into politics if you are not willing to fight the status quo. So much potential.
