Let's travel to Tahiti and let's walk around Papeete, the capital of French Polynesia, an overseas country of France in the Pacific Ocean. The commune (municipality) of Papeete is located on the island of Tahiti and it is the primary center of Tahitian and French Polynesian public and private governmental, commercial, industrial and financial services, the hub of French Polynesian tourism and a commonly used port of call.
Papeete is the largest city in and capital of French Polynesia on the island of Tahiti. Papeete is a typical government center and industrial port with small doses of French and Polynesian charm. Papeete has shopping, eating, and drinking, but very little sightseeing for a capital city and even fewer top-class hotels. The residents speak French and Tahitian, although English is spoken by many in the tourist trade. The people-watching is superb.
The heart and soul of the South Pacific, Tahiti is the largest in a chain of islands that make up French Polynesia. The name can either refer to the main island or the entire destination. Commonly referred to as The Islands of Tahiti, French Polynesia is a collection of 118 islands and atolls scattered across an impressive nautical surface area the size of Western Europe. Still, these tiny islands-many of which remain uninhabited-make up a total landmass of only 1,600 square miles (4,100 sq. km).

Love your video. Very informative and showing everyday life there in paradise. Papeete looks very nice and livable. Quite a bit changed from the Papeete of 1962 when Tiara Tahiti was filmed there. I hope to see Tahiti and Moorea this August. Heard that is when the humpback whales return. I have never seen a whale in person (in whale?) and hope to change that then!
What you saw in the video, was Papeete before the Covid pandemic.. Someone wrote to me and said that it now looks completely different (in a bad way) because so many places are closed... I went to Moorea, it was ok... Best place in the area is Bora-Bora..

Papeete, a capital city. The center of French Polynesia.
This city at exactly 5 p.m. dies. Everything closed. Few places open that all offer the same things.
Alcohol banned. Violent people everywhere. No social life, no street food, no typical dishes except raw fish in coconut milk.
No quality shopping, only Chinese stuff and beach wear.
Degradation, abandoned dogs everywhere, young people walking around with loud speakers and often all night.
Traffic for much of the morning. They all sell the same products at the market and when they do events the products move from the market to the event area but still remain the same.

I think the best collaboration was between Samoa and New Zealand (colony/colonizer) and it is very evident from the condition of the Samoan islands, the preservation of the Samoan culture, the architecture, etc..
