Looking back it's been 50 years ago that this awe-inspiring movie was released. Congratulations to it's timeless wonder over the years and to Dick and Sally who are still here. Thanks for this great musical that will continue to appeal to generations for years to come.
I watched this every time it came on TV as a kid, before cable TV or videos/DVD! I also had the soundtrack and listened to it on the family "record player" frequently! I shared it with my son and he loved it. I took him to see it on Broadway too. It was fantastic! we had balcony seats and I couldn't figure out how they made the car fly! Many great memories! Go ahead, "OK Boomer" me all you want!
I'm currently listening to this as I'm painting the boot floor on my 1968 MK2 MG 1100. The amazing is that not only does this music fit the car, but the car rolled off the production line the very same day this song was released 50 years ago in 1968!
All these are better in the movie itself, but the Shermans really outdid themselves. HOWEVER, the true genius of this soundtrack is whoever did the orchestrations, absolutely fantastic and astounding and perfect. I'm told at least one was the conductor himself Kostal. Really an orchestral masterpiece I've been loving since I was 10.
Lionel Jeffries nails it with "Posh!" The way he elongates the "Sh" on the end of the word, and the way he manages to sound so miserable while singing such a cheery song. Others could sing it, but no one could do it justice the way he did!

‘Me Ol’ Bamboo’ Lyrics ( for me, but feel free to use them! )
[Verse 1: Dancers]
A gentleman's got a walking stick
A seaman's got a gaff
And the Merry Men of Robin Hood
They used their quarterstaff
On the Spanish plains inside their canes
They hide their ruddy swords
But we make do with an old bamboo
And everyone applauds!
One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, hey!
[Chorus]
Me ol' bamboo, me ol' bamboo
You better never bother with me ol' bamboo
You can 'ave me 'at or me bumbershoot
But you better never bother with me ol' bamboo
[Verse 2: Dancers and Caractacus]
When punting on the beautiful Thames-
-You use a sturdy pole
To protect their fair complexion-
-Ladies use a parasol
It's useful in the underbrush-
-to have a hefty spear
Right!
But what we do with an ol' bamboo
Makes everybody cheer!
One, two, three, ho!
[Chorus]
Me ol' bamboo, me ol' bamboo
You better never bother with me ol' bamboo
You can 'ave me 'at or me bumbershoot
But you better never bother with me ol' bamboo
[Dancer]
'Ave a go, mate!
[Verse 3: Dancers and Caractacus]
A flyer in an "aerioplane"
He steers it with a stick
He does?
A collier in the pits o' Wales
He leans upon his pick
That's right!
[ALL]
Now every wheel of an automobile
Revolves around a shaft (Hey!)
But what we do with an old bamboo
Makes everyone go daft!
One, two
[Chorus]
Me ol' bamboo, me ol' bamboo
You better never bother with me ol' bamboo
You can 'ave me 'at or me bumbershoot
But you better never bother with me ol' bamboo
[Interlude]
One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, hey!
And a one, two, three, four, and a five, and six, and a seven, ho!
[Chorus]
Me ol' bamboo, me ol' bamboo
You better never bother with me ol' bamboo

A gentle breeze from Hushabye Mountain
Softly blows o'er Lullaby Bay
It fills the sails of boats that are waiting
Waiting to sail your worries away
It isn't far to Hushabye Mountain
And your boat waits down by the quay
The winds of night so softly are sighing
Soon they will fly your troubles to sea
So close your eyes on Hushabye Mountain
Wave goodbye to cares of the day
And watch your boat from Hushabye Mountain
Sail far away from Lullaby Bay
So close your eyes on Hushabye Mountain
Wave goodbye to cares of the day
And watch your boat from Hushabye Mountain
Sail far away from Lullaby Bay
