Really glad Nanao gets her time to shine. I always thought of her just as a side character who barely get screen time and won’t get involved in major plots, but Kubo proved me wrong just like with Nemu.
Poor Yhwach, he made a cool looking Quincy castle to fulfil his dream of world domination and his stupid god bird subordinate nuked 1/5 of it with his trumpet. Joke aside the episode was amazing, I love the final boss theme of Lille when he is about to use the trumpet
[Tidbits] - As mentioned before Lille’s Vollstandig design takes obvious visual elements from Seraphim (Biblical angels that act as gods spokesmen). This sort of second evolution is further proof of it, aside from having 8 wings, Seraphims are also often depicted as serpent-like creatures bathed in fire or red. (This isn’t 1 to 1, Kubo throws his own unique spin on it by using white instead of red and adding an owl-like face) - We learn here about Shunsui's struggle with death and responsibility, which adds to the sense of tragedy we often feel about his character. Even within this arc it happens again, Yamamoto and Jushiro died leaving him with even greater responsibilities. When you think about his actions, his willingness to do whatever is necessary, it makes much more sense now, for him he has to win because he carries those deaths and responsibilities with him as best as he can. (The concept of him sharing the burden of responsibility instead of taking it on all by himself was impressively expressed through his moment with Nanao) - Many fans often questioned the Nanao ancestral blade concept, feeling that it’s (understandably) overly convenient, and came completely out of the blue. but, as I’ll express again later, Kubo tends to have lore in mind long before it’s revealed. This is why Nanao wasn’t shown in fights, she doesn’t even have a named Zanpaktou and if you recall her moments in the Soul Society arc, she didn’t even carry a blade with her even when the restrictions were lifted (I.e In a story where the strength of the Zanpaktou is primarily how one's strength is judged, it’s obvious that Kubo not showing hers meant something was being set up. It’s more likely that Lille was made in part to delve into this plotline) - Sidenote: Additionally Nanao's last name is “Ise” which is likely in reference the famous Ise Shrine in Japan. It’s a landmark with deep historical and religious importance. - Sidenote 2: It was way back in April of 2007, Chapter 158 that we learn about Shunsui Hairpin and the Kimono from bonus pages in the manga. It’s only of note because many don’t know that Kubo tends to invent characters with tons of lore but he picks and chooses when to reveal it (sometimes he just keeps it tucked claiming “it’s a secret”). The Content covered here happens in chapter 652, a long way away from 158. - Sidenote 3: Another point to consider is that thus far every OG royal guard member has turned into or was some divine eldritch creature [Reposted]

I loved seeing Nanao's past alongside Shunsui's and their relationship more, but I'm really glad they kept this fight panel to panel like with Mayuri with Nemu vs. Pernida. But man, that trumpet attack from Lille looked awesome as hell, but Nanao cooked Chicken Lille so much. xD Also, Shinji slander never ends 😅
Not quite. Isuzu was returned to the Ise family because she and Shunzan never conceived. When she bore a child to Deceased Husband #2, she realized that Nanao would suffer the same curse, and called on Shunsui because he had taken the pin as an oath to protect Isuzu. It did not matter if she was wed to someone else or had borne another man's child, protecting her was still Shunsui's duty because of his brother's deathbed wish.

Yes. Both of Shunsui’s spirits (the older woman and young girl) were in the rebellion arc, their designs are some of few that are officially canon. He has 2 spirits because he has 2 swords, similar to Ichigo getting 2 blades for the Hollow and old man Zangetsu.
Technically all the Zanpakuto designs are canon. When the filler arc was being worked on it was Kubo that gave them the designs. If another Zanpakuto spirit showed up it'd use the same design as the filler arc.

One thing i didn't like about the fight against the 5 quincy guards (or just the Sternritter), is that there doesn't seems to be like a mention of weakness point, there's actually one weakness that almost all sternritter have which is their Vollstandig Halo, Ichigo found this weakpoint in Hueco Mundo (against Quilge) but he never speak about it. And in the manga Gerard has weakness inside his body, but nobody ever finds that out and he ended up getting killed by Aushwallen

They did an amazing job with this episode and the new ost we got was amazing. I will still say i really do wish they did do a foreshadowing of her shikai, and of her clan and whatnot earlier in this cour. Thats really my only takeaway but other than that this episode was amazing.
If you look back to Senjumaru's Bankai we can see that she defeated Lille Barro by reflecting his own attacks. Also Shinken Hakkyoken translates to Eight Mirror Sword and there were eight mirrors in the dome that Senjumaru put Lille in. Similarly, Pernida was engulfed by black soil. Black soil in Japanese means Kurotsuchi. And Mayuri Kurotsuchi was the one who defeated Pernida in the end. So there's a theory that Senjumaru's Bankai is a reality weaving Bankai. Also Shunsui was told that he wouldn't run into the curse by hiding the sword anymore but that wasn't the case. He lost his mentor or father figure in Yamamoto, colleague in Unohana and a friend in Ukitake. Also there's a theory that this Shinken Hakkyoken is the sword used to dismember the Soul King. That's why Central 46 was quick to execute Nanao's mother.
We do not know if nanao is actually his neice, because its never confirmed if his brother is the father or if the father was someone later just picked by the clan, given the age we see shunsui at when his brother dies, then the age we see him at when he takes the swird and nanao is a very small child, it could be either

The next episode will be even better than this. In the manga this cour covers the best parts of TYBW. Lets hope with the anime the last cour will become the new best part.
