- This video reviews the Wilderness Systems Kayak Krate. I recently upgraded from the typical DIY milk crate setup to this. I go over setup, usage and put it to the test on a 17 mile river run. Then I show a few different options for setup and give you my final thoughts.

Great episode very informative keep up the good work
Thank you Charles!
Just got mine yesterday !! Didn’t wanna use the riser mounts either . Taking it out tomorrow to try her out . “Tight lines “
Awesome man. I think you will like it. I was out with mine earlier this week on the Little Pigeon River in Pigeon Forge. Still working great for me!
@@BooneDownSouth hell yeaaaa
Thanks for the very thorough review. I know this is 3 years after your review. I don't know if this was a closeout price, but I just bought one online for $79.99 from a store called Confluence Outdoor. After having it for 3 years has it held up?
So I saw that last week or so where Confluence slashed the prices on several items for a holiday sale. Confluence owns Wilderness Systems and several other kayak related companies. Incredible price.
Yes mine has held up, although I no longer use it. When I got my RVR 119, I switched over to underseat storage for my tackle, which means no more leaning over the back of the seat to get things. I also switched over to YakAttack SideStage Pro for rod holders. It basically removed the need for any crate behind me or rod holders. I like this setup for me a lot better now.
But until I made that change, I was very happy with the Kayak Krate. No problems with it at all.
@@BooneDownSouth Also Cedar Creek Outdoor Center is going out of business. I snagged a Wilderness System iattack 110 for $865.00. I had been looking for a decent inflatable fishing kayak. MSRP is $1399.99
@@dansouthcomb5439 Sweet. Sounds like you have been scoring lately!
Thank you for your honest opinion. I was thinking about getting this and adding it to my Wilderness Systems Recon 120. By biggest concern was the price. Not sure if I can justify that price tag. I to have a homemade milk crate system and am looking to get something “not so homemade looking “ lol
Yea I did the modified milk crate for awhile as well and then finally bit the bullet. It is way overpriced, but I wouldn't change my mind on it at this point.
@@BooneDownSouth Good to know! Thanks!!
thank you. excellent review.
Thank you Bern!
good review. i'm curious how much water would get in if i flip my kayak. if you feel like holding that underwater for a minute to see, let me know
@junkdna83 - Well they don't advertise it as waterproof but rather water resistant. I will say that if it is strapped in place and you flip I really don't think much water will get it. I'm sure some will but not a lot if you flip. The water would only be able to get in around the seal around lid and if that flips upside down, the air inside would have to get out to make room for the water getting in and once you are flipped the air has no way out. That is what I am thinking anyway.
Good review, but let's say someone had an idea to make that into a livewell with an aerator. Would it hold water or will it leak?
@XxJakexX - So you could definitely convert it into a livewell with an aerator. There are some plastic rivets on the inside where I think the screw inserts are installed for the rod holders. Nothing a little caulk couldn't seal though. If you did that I think it would def hold water.
I seen ppl buy a yakattack black pack and do mods to it, end result would be a Wilderness Systems kayak crate. The end price is pretty close. I think WS crate is the better investment because of build quality. But overall still pricey. Great video brother.
Yes it is pricey - I think overpriced, but I really like it's functionality and it has worked well for me.
Thanks for the video. I have the same kayak. Will that crate be placed the other way. Widest part going side to side. I have to fit battery. Thank you
Yes I just tested it and it fits in both directions. I run a battery when I run my trolling motor and I put that in the front hatch and have all my cabling running inside the hull. But I just put it in there and it fits just fine in that direction. But honestly I think they way I use mine I think I still have room for a small cooler behind it too which means you might still have room for the battery either way you do it.
Hey I just ordered this crate. But I have a question for anyone that knows the answer. What are the names and where can I find the clips that he has on the cords that he uses to hold down the crate? I can't find those or something like it.
Here is a link to what I think you are looking for: amzn.to/3ILQ3RK
Do those mounting clips come with it?
So there are places on the Krate to attach things to, but the clips actually came with the Bonafide SS127 kayak.
Can you add 8 rod holders to this?
Matty I think it would be too crowded. You might be able to add 2 more to get to 6 but I think 8 would be too much.
they sell it 380 aussie dollars now here
Yea that is not cheap by any means!
$204 now.
Got mine for $100.
Good buy!
This is not waterproof, mine just filled 1/4 full of water during a rain storm.
Oh man.. that's awful. I haven't had that issue fortunately, but I guess I'm not out with it in too many rain storms either.
Yeah looks nice but def overpriced
I agree 100%.
