This is true, but as someone who has been friends with people my other friends saw as terrible and warned me about, I understand the struggle. When you see them as your friends, you naturally defend them, hoping others will see what you see. It’s tough, and it takes time to move past that and see them for who they truly are.

Speaking as someone who wasn’t on RUclips when this happened, doesn’t follow any of these people, and has absolutely no stake in this, I think Jeffree Star orchestrated a lot of this drama. Feeding people tidbits, whispering in ears, and making drama bigger to get attention for himself. He’s never been one to avoid bad press. He revels in it.

We already heard this story in 2020. Not only was she warned about Jeffree by everyone, including her subscribers, she posted Bye Sister because she was slighted. That was her primary motivation, and until she owns that I don't see a reason to follow her, especially as she leans into the crunchy scene.

I think that Tati was not an innocent lamb in all of this, I think that she was definitely getting something from being associated with James Charles. However, I think that she is someone who is quite easily swayed. I know people who are very much like this. They will be so convinced about someone and something; then someone else with a stronger personality comes along and what they believe at first, no they never believed that. So, Tati has always struck me as being a little bit like that. You said weak, but I think easily swayed works better for this situation. Easily manipulated, easily swayed, and maybe doesn't have a good support system. I feel for Tati in ways, because it sucks to be misled. I love that she brought us all this drama though! In the follow up she did after the whole dramagedon, she did say she confided in Shane that she had been sexually assaulted, and from the timeline of events it seems like it was shortly after when Jeffree started dripfeeding her stuff about James Charles and they sent her that audio of something that obviously left her very distraught. The tipping point was probably out of pettiness from the gummies but I think it was just a matter of time until she blew things open after that audio. It seems to me like she thought she was doing James a solid by keeping quiet about his behaviour because in her mind James owed her some loyalty as her "protegee", but (besides it obviously being very scummy to cover for alleged sexual crimes if the perpetrator is your friend) it was obviously a very delusional way of seeing their relationship and he would've made her go off eventually.

The hate train against Tati was insane. I felt so bad for her knowing she genuinely was passionate about the beauty industry and informing/educating people.
I'll be honest, I sometimes get videos from Tati in my recommended and when I watch them, I can't help but wish the best for her. Her videos feel really normal, she's just talking about her life and make up and is not an overbearing TikTok Advert person that I feel like many of the big beauty gurus of that time became. Considering she has just been existing and considering Mr. Insert-Himself-Everywhere, Mr. Allegedly-DMing-Minors and Mr. Did-Something-To-A-Cat have been not talked about nicely and have involved themselves in minor dramas or straight up illegal activity says a lot. I really relate to what you were saying in the beginning about having a hard time going from wanting to film to actually turning on the camera and filming. I have a very hard time with "transitions" and executive function, going from one mode to another. Even if it's as simple as " I want to get up and get a snack bar" to actually getting up and getting a snack bar. I have ADHD, and this is definitely a part of why I struggle with this the way I do. (It's really common for us with ADHD to have difficulty with executive disfunction, demand avoidance etc. but also that can happen with anyone's brain with or without ADHD) so if you want advice or some tips and tricks on how to approach that executive disfunction, ADHD reddit and tiktok can be madly helpful. The tricks are helpful quite often for anyone, not just people who had ADHD or a similar type experience to ADHD.
Out of all those beauty gurus of 2016 onwards, (even tho I don’t watch her anymore cause I’ve found creators like Robert Welsh that I prefer) I still have a soft spot for tati, her channel was my first real introduction into beauty so I’m bias. Certain types of people can be manipulative even at 17yo, look at that group of 14yo UK kids k1lling an old non white guy walking his dog! it’s hopefully extremely rare ofc and we should always believe & hear out the victim/child, but there will always be anomalies that we realise in hindsight once they continue to do worse sh1t into adulthood. Like in true crime cases for example where they show signs even in childhood that something wasn’t right. I also believe people can be manipulated at any age. Look at all the different age demographics that fall for scams. Tati was in her mid 30’s at the time yes, but why would she initially be suspicious that supporting a child’s career and taking them under her motherly wing would be her downfall? It’s heartbreaking that she’s always wanted to be a mum and she wanted to mentor this talented driven kid, in a non creepy way (I hope) and it blew up in her face. I know she is also very religious/spiritual so I can see her falling for Jeffrey’s “I’ve changed/I’m just misunderstood please use your untarnished name to vouch for me tati 🥺” or whatever he told her. All I’m saying is: out of everyone involved in that bye sister thing, Tati faced the worst long term backlash when she was the least deserving out of all of them. I blame misogyny, we hold women to ridiculously high standards while we let men f up again and again with little to no consequences.

And wrong people can use it to their advantage. I feel like Jeffree orchestrated all of that drama to make Tati and James look bad. They were both blowing up at the time and Jeffree was starting to lose a ton of popularity because if how toxic he is. I think he wanted to make them look bad so that he would look better by comparison. Thankfully it blew up in his face.
I think, maybe, Tati saw something in 17 year old James that reminded her of herself at that age. Maybe she wanted to be a mentor to him that she didn’t have at that age ?? Just a thought.

I'll be honest, I sometimes get videos from Tati in my recommended and when I watch them, I can't help but wish the best for her. Her videos feel really normal, she's just talking about her life and make up and is not an overbearing TikTok Advert person that I feel like many of the big beauty gurus of that time became. Considering she has just been existing and considering Mr. Insert-Himself-Everywhere, Mr. Allegedly-DMing-Minors and Mr. Did-Something-To-A-Cat have been not talked about nicely and have involved themselves in minor dramas or straight up illegal activity says a lot. Her being spiritual is literally the LEAST shocking thing of all of that, ngl, I might also join a cult if the entire internet had it out for me. And I will die on the hill that Tati was just a scapegoat for certain indiviuals taking out a competitor they didn't want to be involved with anymore. Tati was a pawn and had to tank all the damage from that. Things you do for money, associating with people like them. The fact that she was demonized and JC and JS and SD got away...5 years later I am now old enough to see that there was misogyny playing a role, but who am I, just a witness to things that don't effect me.

I don't think her building a friendship and being James' mentor is that weird. I had a great mentor in the hospital I studied and we built a friendship where we even met for coffee, and I thanked her in my thesis too, and we message on facebook etc. Almost all of my friends have "work-moms" who took them under their wings, one of them just had dinner with hers, so I think it's not that unusual
But with that its in a professional place whereas james in la doesnt have safeguards

Or they feel like they're losing control over their lives. And they need some higher power to take the wheel and give them all answers to the universe. I really relate to what you were saying in the beginning about having a hard time going from wanting to film to actually turning on the camera and filming.
I have a very hard time with "transitions" and executive function, going from one mode to another. Even if it's as simple as " I want to get up and get a snack bar" to actually getting up and getting a snack bar.
I have ADHD, and this is definitely a part of why I struggle with this the way I do. (It's really common for us with ADHD to have difficulty with executive disfunction, demand avoidance etc. but also that can happen with anyone's brain with or without ADHD) so if you want advice or some tips and tricks on how to approach that executive disfunction, ADHD reddit and tiktok can be madly helpful. The tricks are helpful quite often for anyone, not just people who had ADHD or a similar type experience to ADHD.

What’s funny is that only 25% of the video was about the drama and 50% of it was about sobriety and spirituality, but you skipped past those parts 💀
Out of all those beauty gurus of 2016 onwards, (even tho I don’t watch her anymore cause I’ve found creators like Robert Welsh that I prefer) I still have a soft spot for tati, her channel was my first real introduction into beauty so I’m bias.
Certain types of people can be manipulative even at 17yo, look at that group of 14yo UK kids k1lling an old non white guy walking his dog! it’s hopefully extremely rare ofc and we should always believe & hear out the victim/child, but there will always be anomalies that we realise in hindsight once they continue to do worse sh1t into adulthood. Like in true crime cases for example where they show signs even in childhood that something wasn’t right.
I also believe people can be manipulated at any age. Look at all the different age demographics that fall for scams. Tati was in her mid 30’s at the time yes, but why would she initially be suspicious that supporting a child’s career and taking them under her motherly wing would be her downfall? It’s heartbreaking that she’s always wanted to be a mum and she wanted to mentor this talented driven kid, in a non creepy way (I hope) and it blew up in her face.
I know she is also very religious/spiritual so I can see her falling for Jeffrey’s “I’ve changed/I’m just misunderstood please use your untarnished name to vouch for me tati 🥺” or whatever he told her.
All I’m saying is: out of everyone involved in that bye sister thing, Tati faced the worst long term backlash when she was the least deserving out of all of them. I blame misogyny, we hold women to ridiculously high standards while we let men f up again and again with little to no consequences.

tbh I think Tati is a bit of a people pleaser and she’s very scared of disappointing people who she considers friends which is another huge problem. I can see a lot of things that I’ve worked with in therapy in her. And idk what she’s talking about in her therapy sessions but I hope she’s better now at standing her ground. Just by listening to what she said about meeting Jeffrey: she got so enamoured by ‘honestly’ and basic life skills of not judging someone before meeting them. Idk if I would say she’s ‘weak’ but she definitely was not cut out to live in LA and be in the inner circle of that lifestyle.
Plus it’s clear that her fatal flaw is her loyalty. And wrong people can use it to their advantage. Even when there were controversies about some of her friends she would either defend them or be silent which from being a good friend perspective is exactly what she should’ve been doing but from a good person perspective is totally not it.
In the end I still think that the amount of hate that she got from it all was mind blowing. Especially when we understand that she was right too. She went about it in a … peculiar manner (which backfired) and maybe her points were not ALL correct but she had the right about James.
I think its just a "i have a job" thing. Im the same way with my job and i love it too 😂
