Agree’ish. Own r32 GTR in since 2004. Have a 18 R wagon. While the best all round package for daily’ing IMO, my only gripe is “Transversal engine, front wheel biased AWD” nature of them instead of the RWD smokey corner exits of the GTR. Mk8 better I read. That said, it makes the R almost foolproof to drive. Incredible package and I only found out about em 2yrs back. I called them unreliable VAG pieces of shit for years lol.

They seem to want to reinvent the wheel with everything, and a lot of it isn't an improvement. I mean, WTF is with the "wheel bolts" on the shitboxes?!? If you ever have to change a tyre on the side of the road, it's f#*ked. And WHY, when a stud and but does a much better job. It's one of the first mods you do when pumping boost, replace head bolts with studs... 🤦 And people think the Germans make better engineers, I don't agree... Then there's Eurotrash that you have to buy specialist tools for, some even have bolt heads with a different design. Again, reinventing the wheel.

Our car would go from around 200kw to 600kw in around 2000rpm. Nothing beats the surge in power in a turbo car. Looking at the dyno screen this golf has a decently wide power band for a turbo car. Looks like around 3000 rpm near full power. Its not exactly light switch type response either.

I’m not sure I agree, with this level of tuning on a DSG mk7 R you get 0-100 times that match some Lamborghini and Ferrari models in the last 10 years.
If you like acceleration they are quite a blast.
They also do everything else well, so work well as a very quick daily.
